Stimulus Not Even Signed and Dem’s Start Backing Off Jobs Claim

On “This Week” with George Stephanopolous, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) made a very carefully nuanced statement about the anticipated impact of the stimulus package on jobs.  He said the bill will “create or maintain three to four million jobs.”

And so the backtracking officially begins.

According to Schumer, the so called stimulus bill needn’t now create any “new” jobs.  All it now needs to do is keep three million jobs from being lost.

If you can’t reach the goal line, shorten the field.

No one has been able to define for me mhat a government saved job is and who the hell decides?

So long as there are still at least 4 million people employed in the U.S., they can claim those are the jobs they saved.

People are about to find out what that Change was all about. It’ll be Change back to the Carter years (only if we’re lucky, I believe it’ll be worse).

Oh, and Hope? How easily it turns into…

All those Senators that voted for it. You will see an angry backlash from the public when this dirty bill gets exposed. It will be overwhelming and I predict some long time democrats will go down hard. Of course that means we have to fight and get in the gutter, yes we will have to get in the gutter and bring guns to a knife fight. That means counter ACORN activities at every step. We are smarter then there are – we just need some numbers in terms of feet on the ground.

“So long as there are still at least 4 million people employed in the U.S., they can claim those are the jobs they saved.”

What’s ironic is that the Dems treat themselves exactly the way the CEOs treat themselves.

Congress: “Nothing is our fault, Anything bad is the previous guy’s fault (or Bush’s). I ain’t taking no damn pay cut or giving up any perks! Oh and by the way here’s an impossible to measure goal that will allow us to claim victory no matter how things turn out. You taxpayers just shut up, open up your wallets, and be happy with whatever we leave you.”

CEOs (to the press if it was a good quarter): “I deserve the credit for the strategy that drove our company’s great results.”

CEOs (to the press if it was a bad quarter): “I deserve credit for the strategy that kept things from being worse than they could have been.”

CEOs (to the board): “Of course I deserve a huge bonus for the good news I already reported to the press.”

CEOs (to employees if it was a bad quarter): “You failed to meet the goals we set this quarter, so your job is moving to China, Brazil, India, Argentina, Hungary, etc.”

CEOs (to employees if it was a good quarter): “You failed to meet the goals we set this quarter, so your job is moving to China, Brazil, India, Argentina, Hungary, etc.”

… my guess is a “saved” job will be the number of jobs it takes to plug the difference between number of jobs added to the economy and Obama’s target (which has been bouncing between 3.5 million to 4 million in recent days).

It’s a soft goal that can’t be calculated.

I do a lot of work with incentive programs and we talk a lot about hard goals that can be quantified. We would have rejected that one on its face.

that given 154 million are employed now, 151 million could lose their jobs and Obama still fulfill his promise!

And although the bill is generally described as costing $787 billion, the Congressional Budget Office reports the actual figure is now closer to $3.27 trillion.

That stems from the $744 billion it will take to pay for the additional debt the legislation will create, and $2.527 trillion in increased spending from the new and expanded programs the bill will spawn over the next decade.

The plan has more than $3 billion in ?neighborhood stabilization? and Community Development Block Grant funding, much of which may go to benefit ACORN, a low-income housing and voter registration ?community? organization that is under federal investigation for its suspicious voter registration practices.

    * Why was money allocated to ACORN if it is under federal investigation???????

$1.3 billion to bailout AMTRAK, the perennial money-loser railroad.

*AMTRAK should be shut-down not given more money!!!!

$1 billion for educational programs, including courses on sexually transmitted diseases.

*Who and how are they going to teaching courses on sexually transmitted diseases.??? In the public schools???

OK, where is my Billion dollar check????

$30 million for restoration of wetlands to be spent in the San Francisco Bay Area ? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi?s district. The money will go in part to protect the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse.

*Wow, $30 Million to protect a mouse. Let’s send Pelosi ONE MILLION Mousetraps…..

$200 million for a low-pollution, coal-fired power plant in President Barack Obama?s home state of Illinois. – I thought this was $2 Billion????

$45 million for ATV four-wheeler trails, and government office renovations, according to RNC Chairman Michael Steele.

*How do you get ATV trails and government office renovations in the same sentence.

Over $650 million in coupons to help consumers buy digital TV converter-box coupons.

*If you are to poor to afford a $50 DTV box then turn off the TV and go get a job!!!!!!

A reported $300 million for hybrid vehicles and electric-powered cars. According to the Washington Times, this item will include buying golf carts for federal workers.

*Why do federal workers need electric golf carts. They should ride bikes or walk – most of them are probably overweight anyway.
