URGENT: In One Day Polling, McCain Leads Obama 48%-47%

Should we be excited?

I know it’s only a one-point lead, and the experts are predicting a pretty blue electoral map next Tuesday, but should we be getting excited?
I’ve let you guys and gals know that I had a period where I was getting down a month ago or so about the polls, and I apologized. And another thanks to all of you here at RedState (my new favorite website) for picking me up and helping to keep this in perspective. I’ve talked to a lot of people, sent a lot of e-mails, and can say I’ve changed some minds. While it is discouraging that there really hasn’t been a ground game for McCain/Palin in Omaha, I highly doubt Obama will steal an electoral vote from the second district here in Nebraska (we split votes just like in Maine).
I saw on Drudge a headline that says Zogby will release a one-day poll that shows McCain pulling ahead of Obama, with a 48%-47% advantage. While I don’t consider myself someone who will get excited over one poll, showing an advantage within the margin of error, has this race really tightened up to the point that the Obama people are that nervous?
Before I went to Drudge, I checked my e-mail which had a “state of the campaign” update on it. It talks about Iowa, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Ohio with great confidence. They were talking about how they still appear to be a little down, but are within striking distance. I don’t know if this is a farce, or if this is real. But the fact that Obama is back in Iowa, a state that has been called for Obama for the past month or so, kind of tells me something.
It also says something to see that on Rassmusen, more voters trusted McCain on the economy now. That didn’t relate to the national numbers as Obama was still showing a four-point lead and they are still predicting Obama to win, but if more voters are trusting McCain on the economy, I would think that it would take two or three days to catch up to the statewide polls.
Once again, I’m being a little cautious in saying that McCain will win, but I think this may show the infomercial was all for naught. Sure, a lot of the base saw it and loved it to death, but how did it sway undecideds? Frank Luntz’s “focus group” indicated that no one learned anything new from this, they just got the same rhetoric in a Hollywood setting. Could this have turned people off? Could he have lost some slight support in this?
I’m not ready to call the election yet, but I do have one prediction. It’s going to be a very long night, and this may make the mess in 2000 look like a game of jacks. I don’t expect getting a lot of sleep Tuesday night.

Did Bill Clinton Help of Hurt Barack Obama?

With enemies like the Clintons, who needs friends?

I found this quote from Bill Clinton odd when he campaigned for Barack Obama recently down in Florida:

I haven’t cleared this with him and he may even be mad at me for saying this so close to the election, but I know what else he said to his economic advisers (during the crisis),” Clinton told the crowd at a Wednesday night rally with Obama in Florida. “He said, ‘Tell me what the right thing to do is. What’s the right thing for America? Don’t tell me what’s popular. You tell me what’s right — I’ll figure out how to sell it.

You tell me what’s right, and I’ll figure out how to sell it? Nice. I want this guy in the White House.
Keep in mind, this was the same Barack Obama that issued a joint statement with John McCain about rising above politics in the face of the economic crisis, then called him “erratic” and accused him of not being able to handle multiple things at once when McCain decided to suspend his campaign to go back to Washington. After saying, “call me if you need me,” he goes back to Washington anyway. At first he claimed credit for the bill getting passed, but noticed he hasn’t said anything about it since.
First, we find out that Joe Biden has been muzzled, chained up, and thrown in the basement until November 5th. Second, we find out that Lazarus himself (Bill Clinton) has decided to praise Obama while making him sound like the economic moron we know he has been. I guess it just goes to show that Hell hath no fury like a Clinton scorned.

Barack Obama, (R) Illinois

Outside of spreading the wealth, listen to his rhetoric.

In 2006, the Democrats defeated the Republicans in the midterm “thumping” by using Mark Foley and Macaca when the polls started showing Republicans making gains. The Democrats also successfully recruited more conservative/moderate candidates to compare more evenly with their Republican counterparts so the “liberal” tag couldn’t stick very well.
Now I firmly belive Barack Obama embraces socialism in every way, and I believe his national security and economic policies would make Jimmy Carter look like Ronald Reagan. But if you listen to his rhetoric, he sounds more like a Republican, even like President Bush:
* Listen to all of his tax cut promises. President Bush promised tax cuts of all sorts, but Obama is trying to “out-Bush” McCain on taxes. I have NEVER head a liberal Democrat promise so much in tax cuts.
* Listen to how hawkish he has been on Afghanistan. He’s going to capture or kill bin Laden. And now, instead of promising to end the war immediately (like he did in the primaries), he’s now talking about ending the war “responsibly.”
* He’s now starting to talk about a “new era of fiscal responsibility.” Very Reaganesque.
Cut taxes and kill terrorists. Sound familiar? Go back four years ago and listen to President Bush and Senator Kerry. And now, in 2008, listen to the campaign promises that Barack Obama speaks of in very borad terms and who it corresponds to. I’ll give you a hint; it’s not John Kerry.

So, Will the Infomercial Blunt McCain’s Progress in the Polls?

Sorry to say, but I "missed" the Obamabot feature. Was it something that will seal the deal?

I want honesty, folks. I had to get the kids ready for bed, and then was tempted to see it, but I decided I would much rather watch my favorite NBA team, the San Antonio Spurs, bow down to the Phoenix Suns. A friend of mine watched it and said there was nothing new except the same “hope and change” crap he recites every time he’s on TV.
Granted my friends and I are just “a tad” biased, but I seriously want to know if there was anything new, besides dropping the $250,000 down to $200,000 in this commercial that he hasn’t said before that will hinder McCain’s movement in the polls. I’m sad to say that if Obama gets back up to a seven or eight point lead nationally after all of this, then it just might be time to start thinking about 2012.
So let me hear it. Anything signifigant happen?

Why Won’t the Los Angeles Times Release this Famous Video?

They say it's to protect their source.......

The Los Angeles Times responds to the McCain campaigns demands to do their job, release the tape, and make the information public:

“The Los Angeles Times did not publish the videotape because it was provided to us by a confidential source who did so on the condition that we not release it,” said the newspaper’s editor, Russ Stanton. “The Times keeps its promises to sources.”
So we’re not releasing the tape to protect a source? Or are they not releasing the tape to protect Obama. I’ll speculate both!

Breaking Down the IBD/TIPP Poll

If this is right, then Obama has a lot to worry about.

Seven days left. After nearly two years of campaigning, debates, Hope and Change (and lies, smear, and deceit), and not vetting the Democratic nominee for President, the press is calling the election for Barack Obama. He’s your next president, so if you don’t like him, you may as well stay home on election day. The polls, after all, agree with that statement, so go ahead and celebrate….or lament.
Looking at the polls so far today, it appears things are tightening up, and it will hopefully continue to do so. The latest IBD/TIPP poll shows some pretty sobering numbers for Barack Obama in terms of undecideds, and even voters between the ages of 18-24, which is a key demographic for Obama winning next Tuesday.
Here’s the breakdown:
* Obama leads, 46.5% to 43.3%. This means that 10.1% are still undecided.
* McCain leads among 18-24 year old voters, 53% to 42%, with 5% undecided. They note that there’s fluctuations due to a small sample, but that could be huge.
* McCain leads by six among among men, Obama by ten among women. Both genders show 10% undecided.
* Both candidates run pretty evenly among voters of their own party, but Obama leads 43% to 38% with a whopping 19% undecided.
The poll is outside the margin of error by only .2%, but the big key here is that there are a lot of people out there that are undecided. This means Obama hasn’t been able to seal the deal quite yet.
This may not necessarily be a reason to get too excited yet, but it’s good news. If the election was over by now like the media wants us to think, you wouldn’t see a huge number of undecideds. McCain needs to play the tape of Obama criticizing the Supreme Court for not being radical enough to conisder redistribution of wealth so everyone can see the Marxist that Obama really is. If the MSM sits on it and hides it, however, it will be pretty tough.
I can’t predict who will win right now, but the only prediction I have is that next Tuesday will be a long night. This thing might not get called until early Wednesday morning.

Sarah Palin has Gone “Rogue”

You can't seal the deal just yet, so accuse the opponents of "infighting."

Most of us can agree that journalism has practically been nonexistent in this election season. The MSM has consistently put the message out the Barack Obama and the Democrats are on the side of good, and John McCain and the Republicans are on the side of evil. Most of us can also agree that they have decided to spend more time digging in dumpsters in Wasilla than looking into Obama’s past. We have to raise so much fuss about wardrobes and a bogus “ethics” violation run by a partisan Obama supporter and his buddy, but we lend no credence to hanging out with domestic terrorists or having socialist views on the economy.
Barack Obama wants you to think the election is over. The MSM wants you to get depressed so you deicde to stay home next Tuesday. Democrats, start popping open the champagne bottles. Get that new presidential seal ready. Harry Reid, your magic number of 60 is certain.
If that’s the case, then why go with this?
According to CNN and other MSM outlets, Sarah Palin has decided to throw John McCain under the bus and start gunning for 2012. McCain aides have leaked some pretty damaging stuff to the MSM about her wanting to do her own thing, getting off message, becoming a “diva,” and deciding to stick around and answer questions from the press at the anger of her press secretary. She disagrees with robocalls and pulling out of Michigan. Yep, she’s thrown McCain on the side of the road, waiting for him to be picked up with the rest of the trash.

Joe the Plumber’s Information Accessed by Government Computers!

Welcome to the Obama presidency! Disagree with the czar, comrade, and you shall be investigated.

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Joe’s information was possibly accessed by state and law-enforcement computer systems.

Information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department.

It has not been determined who checked on Wurzelbacher, or why. Direct access to driver’s license and vehicle registration information from BMV computers is restricted to legitimate law enforcement and government business.

I find it interesting that his information was accessed within 48 hours of the final debate, and whoever did it is being very sneaky, indeed:

The attorney general’s office is investigating if the access of Wuzelbacher’s BMV information through the office’s Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway computer system was unauthorized, said spokeswoman Jennifer Brindisi.

“We’re trying to pinpoint where it came from,” she said. The investigation could become “criminal in nature,” she said. Brindisi would not identify the account that pulled the information on Oct. 16.

Records show it was a “test account” assigned to the information technology section of the attorney general’s office, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Thomas Hunter.

So you mean to tell me that there isn’t a way to look up the system to see who requested a test account for the days the information was accessed? How about the user ID in the system that set up the user name and password? It shouldn’t be that difficult to pinpoint where it came from, but that’s just me beling a little too simplistic.
Come on folks, we’re not stupid. We know where this came from. This will be another one of those William Ayers/Jeremiah Wright/ACORN things were Barack Obama (or maybe someone in his campaign) was associated with it but is able to stay an arm’s length away from the scrutiny. I would be very surprised indeed to see if the person that did this wasn’t an Obama supporter, or even instructed by the Obama campaign to do so.
Let’s see; Sarah Palin’s e-mails were hacked by a state senator’s son, and now Joe the Plumer, an anti-Obama voter had his private information hacked into for political gain? Doesn’t this sound a little Clintonesque?

Barack Obama Clarifies Joe Biden’s “Crisis” Remarks, Blames Presidnt Bush for Anything that Might Happen

And you call this Presidential?

From FOXNews.com:

The next administration will face international challenges regardless of who is elected president, Barack Obama said Wednesday, rebutting criticism of Joe Biden’s statement over the weekend that the Democratic candidate will face a “generated crisis” if elected.

Obama said the key reason the next president will face such threats is because of the damaging policies of the past eight years, and he said he’s confident his administration will meet such a test.

Let me get this right. “There will be an international crisis to test me. I don’t know when it will happen, or where it will originate. But when it does, you can bet it won’t be my responsbility. This is George Bush’s fault.”
And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the theme for the first term of an Obama administration. Doesn’tmatter if we’re talking national security, economy, or energy independence. All we need to know is Barack Obama is innocent of any responsibility, and George Bush will be the reason why Obama is an incompetent leader.
Look, I’ll risk the ridicule and unpopularity for saying this: I’ve disagreed with President Bush on spending, immigration, and the prosecution of the war in Iraq. I think some his cabinet member selections have been questionable. Bt one thing he has done an outstanding job on has been taking the fight to the terrorists and keeping us safe since 9/11. Any reasonable person should be able to recognize that. If you wish to assail me for sticking up for President Bush on national security issues, then be my guest.
“Blame Bush” will only work for so long, Senator Obama. The time will come when you have to back up your style with substance, problems with solutions, and answers about your questionable character. Should you ever be graced by winning this election and honored with the responsibility of defending the constitution, you’ll need to deliver on your promises. So far, you’ve shown little ability to do so.

What the Hell did Barack Obama Raise $600 Million for?

So much for standing up for the little guy......

Lynn Sweet posted some interesting information on her blog today. It turns out that Barack Obama’s campaign is charging a hefty penny for election night coverage. Maybe this is how he plans to fund the one trillion dollars in additional government spending.

FROM THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN….

The following coverage resource packages are available for purchase:

  • Main Riser Position - $935 (Includes 4 Main Riser Credentials, 5′x8′ Slot on Covered Main Riser and one 20 amp circuit)
  • Main Riser Position with Telecommunications - $1870 (Includes Main Riser Position services, PLUS two unlimited long distance/local phone lines and one wired high speed internet connection)
  • Cut Riser Position - $880 (Includes 4 Cut Riser Credentials, 5′x8′ Slot on Covered Cut Riser, one 20 amp circuit)
  • Cut Riser Position with Telecommunications - $1815 (Includes Cut Riser Position services, PLUS two unlimited long distance/local phone lines and one wired high speed internet connection)
  • Press File Seat - $935 (includes 1 Press File Credential, seat in heated Press File Tent, Power, Cable Television, High Speed Wired Internet Service, Catering)
  • Satellite Truck Position - $900 (includes 35′x20′ parking position and 100 amp electrical service)
  • Radio Position - $715 (includes table space and chair behind the riser, power and an ISDN BRI line for radio — comes with two credentials)

I’m assuming that all campaigns charge a fee for these services, but isn’t this a little hypocritical coming from the person who promotes the politics of hope and change? As Sweet says, this is just an attempt for the elite media with the deeper pockets to get the best access while journalists from the smaller publications/networks get screwed over.
Man, if he’s charging this much for press access on election night, can you even imagine what the inauguration will be like?

Iran’s Oil Minister Boasts, “The Era of Cheap Oil is Finished!”

Yet another reason to vote Republican in two weeks! McCain and Palin need to hit this hard and hit it repeatedly!

From FOXNews.com:

Just as Americans are finally beginning to reap the benefits of plunging gasoline prices — including more money in their pockets — OPEC is getting ready to squeeze them once again by cutting oil production and driving up prices to refineries.

The 13-nation global oil cartel — which includes Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s Iran and Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela — will hold an emergency meeting in Vienna Friday to discuss the steep and rapid decline in oil prices.

“The era of cheap oil is finished,” Iran’s Oil Minister Gholamhossein Nozari boasted on Tuesday.

When asked what price Iran would want for its oil, Nozari declared, “The more the better.”

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t Barack Obama and the Democrats fundamentally against offshore oil drilling, as well as drilling in ANWR?
Aren’t the Democrats conspiring to reimpose the ban on offshore oil drilling shortly after the election is over?
Aren’t the Democrats and they’re eco-terrorist friends the only ones benefiting from high gas prices?

Where is our Media? Where is our Version of George Soros?

We need to even things up.....and even them up fast.

When President Bush was re-elected in 2004, I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that the victory wouldn’t last long. Indeed, in two short years, Republicans were “thumped” to quote President Bush at the ballot box. The media wants you to think that it was the war in Iraq as the main reason for the large transfer of power, but I believe had Mark Foley been reported when it actually happened instead of waiting on it when Republicans were polling better, we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in right now.
Democrats, as well as their party faithful in the MSM, stepped up their hateful rhetoric on President Bush after his re-election. The media stepped up their reporting on every single car bomb attack in Iraq; at one point I thought they woked up in the morning praying for more American soldiers to be killed. The economy was strong but obviously the red flags were raised about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac by both the Bush administration and some other Republicans like John McCain, but nothing was done in the liberal led Congress to do something about their largest campaign contributors.
And now, it appears Barack Obama will win the election in an electoral landslide and the Democrats will increase their majorities in the House and Senate. With the lowest approval ratings for Congress in the history of this country, this baffles me the most. How were they able to pull off the greatest electoral results in the history of the states while being the worst party leaders in history?

Polling Data on Joe the Plumber?

This election just keeps getting stranger by the moment.......

I just checked Rasmussen’s website, and the news is this: Obama leads McCain nationally 51%-45% (ugh) and there is polling data on Joe the Plumber. Yes, for some reason, Rasmussen decided to poll voters on Joe.
Here are highlights from the poll:

  • 44% of voters agree with Barack Obama on “spreading the wealth around,” 42% oppose it.
  • 69% of Democrats think Obama is right, 78% of Republicans say “hell no.”
  • Even though there weren’t concrete numbers on this, Rasmussen says a majority of people who make under $40,000 a year side with Obama on socialism (spreading the wealth around) and those who make “more” disagree.
  • 63% of voters under 30 agree, while a “plurality” over 30 disagree.
  • 61% of voters have been following the news about Joe. Of the people following, 47% disagree with socialism (spreading the wealth) and 40% agree with socialism (spreading the wealth.)
  • Finally, Joe’s favorability rankings are 58% favorable, and 37% unfavorable to voters who follow the story.

Colin Powell Endorses Obama. How Does this Sit with a Candidate who Wants to Surrender in Iraq?

The hypocisy on the part of the Obama campaign is, once again, monumental.

I still admire Colin Powell, even though he’s gone off the tracks ini his endorsement of Barack Obama. According to Powell:

“I think he is a transformational figure, he is a new generation coming into, onto the world stage and the American stage, and for that reason I’ll be voting for Senator Barack Obama….”

In the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama’s main rallying cry was that he was the only candidate who opposed the war in Iraq from the start. He also vowed to shred defense spending and put us in danger by meeting leaders of terrorist nations without any preconditions. Now, since Obama has opposed the war, as well as the surge, why would he welcome the endorsement of someone who was one of the primary backers of the war in the first place?
Regarding Obama being a “transformational figure,” what is he transforming? You still have a partisan liberal democrat playing the race and class warfare cards to get elected, as well as making empty promises. If this is being a “transformational figure,” then I would hate to see the status quo.
Powell was also asked if the “negativity” by the McCain campaign was one of the reasons he decided to endorse Obama:

“It troubled me. We have two wars. We have economic problems, we have health problems. … Those are the problems the American people want to hear about, not about Mr. Ayers, not about who’s a Muslim and not a Muslim. Those kind of images going out on Al Jazeera are killing us around the world,”

I have several issues with this statement, and could poke several holes in it as well. First and foremost, John McCain hasn’t made any claims about Obama being a Muslim. He even corrected a supporter who said he as an “Arab.” Secondly, the only Americans who DON’T want to hear about William Ayers are the only ones who think Barack Obama is the second coming himself.
Lastly, I’m sure a lot of Republicans are asking why Colin Powell would endorse Barack Obama. As John McCain said in a statement, this was expected. I’m sure I will come under fire for suggesting this, but blacks like Powell himself, Condi Rice, Rod Paige, JC Watts, and Michael Steele have been criticized about being conservative, supporting Republicans, or working in the Bush cabinet. The NAACP and other black activist groups have villified them, so this could potentially be Powell’s olive branch. Once again, this is just a theory and I’m sure I’ll come under fire for even thinking it, but oh well.

Want to See what a Democratic Super-Majority will Bring?

Look to Michigan

No offense intended to Redstaters from Michigan, but your state is one of the most confusing (if not the most confusing) in the nation. We constantly hear about how horrible the economy in Michigan is, yet there is no transfer of power from the Democratic party mostly responsible to the Republican party. The fact that incompetent Democrats like Jennifer Granholm get elected on a promise to raise taxes just shocks me. What gives?
With all the talk going to taxes in the remaining 16 days in the election, I heard a quote on an early morning talk show stating that a Democratic supermajority in Washington would equal the economic disaster taking place in Michigan. And you know what, that’s a pretty accurate statement.

Conservatives Join the Ranks of Liberal “Intellectuals” and Attack Sarah Palin

Nice appreciation for the woman that has kept John McCain alive in this race.

Peggy Noonan has joined the “hate Sarah Palin” bandwagon driven by some media conservatives. Peggy, you can pick up your t-shirt on your way out the backdoor.
It’s true that a lot of the intellectual conservatives think this election is lost, and they’re placing all the blame on Sarah Palin. She doesn’t have enough foreign policy experience, no national security experience, no definitive worldview, and by the way did you happen to see that Katie Courin interview?
I’d like to ask all people (conservative, liberal, and independent alike) this question: where were fairly recent presidents like Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush with foreign policy experience when they started their campaigns? All four were governors and didn’t have the “Washington” experience. All four men didn’t have the luxury of a John McCain when it came to this area of expertise. All four men had to surround themselves with competent advisors in foreign policy. Lord only knows how Carter didn’t get us nuked with his incompetency.
For Peggy Noonan and the rest of the Palin bashers, you are missing the grand point here. I, along with many other conservatives, believe had John McCain selected someone like Mitt Romney (even though I like Romney) or even a Tim Pawlenty or Charlie Crist for the second part of the ticket, this election truly would be over by now. Palin’s keeping this race close. Look at the crowds she draws, for crying out loud. Look at how many people she has gotten involved in this election who would otherwise stay at home?
I think Peggy Noonan is brilliant, but she’s just plain wrong on this one.

A CNN Post-Debate Poll Showed Obama Won. Who did they Call?

I'm perplexed, to say the least.

We all know that most polls are about as reliable as a Bill Clinton promise, but I saw this morning that CNN conducted a post-debate poll that had Obama winning by a margin of around 58-31. How is this possible?
If there’s a polling expert here on Redstate, let me know. Who would they have called? I live in central time here and the debate ended at 9:30pm. Are you allowed to call people that late for telemarketing calls or surveys? Or, because of that rule, are they only calling people on the left coast?
Any insight would be much appreciated!

How Long Before Joe the Plumber is Attacked like Sarah Palin was?

Look out, Joe! They're going to come after you!

Joe the Plumber was the star of the debate last night. Bringing up Joe, as well as the “I’m not President Bush” line led to the best debate by John McCain yet. Now, Joe is the talk of the town, as he was on several morning news shows and even had a press conference outside of his home. The Obama campaign realizes they have to go in damage control mode right now, so Joe Biden went after him today. Biden, as well as other Obamabot operatives, started their attacks by saying they don’t know any plumbers who make $250,000. But that wasn’t what Joe said. He said he wants to buy a business that makes that kind of money and he’ll take the hit from Obama as a result.
Joe needs to watch out now. You can sure bet that the Obama campaign will do everything in their power to attack him in a most subtle manner. It was already reported that he doesn’t have a plumbing license. Whether that came directly from his mouth, or was the result of the media digging through his trash can like they did in Wasilla remains to be seen. But the fact of the matter remains that the soundbite of Obama’s “spread the wealth” rationale to Joe has diminished Obama-mania a little bit, and this could lead to a bit of a slide for That One. That means attacks. That means making him look like a redneck hayseed that has no clue. That means he’s just a stupid Republican.
Any negative news or scandals you hear about Joe will be the result of an Obama smear campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised if Barry has told the foot soldiers to leave Alaska and start digging around this guy’s life for making him look bad.
