Stephens: ‘ [Hagel] Confirmation Process Should Be Illuminating’
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | January 10th at 06:05 PM |
Chuck Hagel, former Senator of Nebraska, has been tapped to head the Department of Defense. He’s a Republican, who vociferously criticized the Bush administration during the Iraq War – and equated ‘The Surge’ as the biggest foreign policy blunder since Vietnam. I also think Iraq was more of a distraction, than brilliant strategic thinking – but that’s a different matter. We have a nominee for | Read More »
Dems Gain Voter ID Edge, Again
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | January 9th at 03:06 PM |
The pendulum in the war between liberals and conservatives continues to swing with Democrats regaining the voter ID edge in the aftermath of the 2012 election. According to Mike Flynn of Breitbart, he wrote today that this shouldn’t be a surprise. A new survey by Gallup shows Democrats regaining their edge in party identification over the GOP. In 2012, 47% of Americans identified as Democrat or lean-Democrat. | Read More »
The Progressives Push For New “Assault” Weapons Ban Is Bad Policy
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | December 20th at 12:03 PM |
I stand firm with my fellow members at the National Rifle Association. I couldn’t be more proud to be part of an organization that defends the Second Amendment, which is one of the most important rights within our Constitution. Over the past forty-eight hours, the NRA has been slammed for being somehow complicit in the various incidents connected gun violence – with the most recent being | Read More »
I’m waiting for liberals to make their own 47 percent comment on guns
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | December 17th at 02:09 AM |
In the wake of the Newtown shootings, the left is clamoring for more gun control. They want to ban assault weapons – which is liberal speak for scary guns – and do something about high-capacity magazines because they incentivize us to be mean, vicious, and violent. However, as John Fund noted in National Review, it’s time to talk about the mental illness aspect of this debate | Read More »
Repeat after me: gun control isn’t the answer
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | December 15th at 07:40 PM |
The tragedy in Newton, CT should shake us all to our very core. Of the 26 who were killed yesterday, 20 of them were children. It’s evil. It’s grotesque. And I’m sure many mothers and fathers were holding their children a little tighter last night. Sadly, for twenty families, that will no longer be possible. Our thoughts and prayers should go out to everyone, especially | Read More »
The Lonely Position of Neutral
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | December 12th at 06:06 PM |
I hate raising taxes. I find high tax rates immoral. However, we lost the election. An increase in revenue is inevitable. What’s perverse about this whole episode is that if we fall off the cliff – Democrats will get everything they want. They’ll get their tax increases, their revenue, and defense cuts. They would complete their decade-long project of ending the Bush Tax Cuts and | Read More »
Paul Blart Could’ve Done Better in Benghazi
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | December 11th at 03:29 AM |
Well, it seems that mall security could have done a better job protecting our compound in Benghazi. According to Kerry Picket, who recently made her move to Breitbart News, “a source with personal knowledge of the security situation in Benghazi … were shocked to learn State Department security personnel agents were not immediately armed. Additionally, agents separated from Ambassador Chris Stevens left to retrieve their M4 weapons | Read More »
Six Degrees of Grover Norquist
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | December 7th at 01:50 PM |
Grover Norquist is evil. Grover Norquist is an impediment to good governance. We’ve all heard the pundits detail – ad nauseum – about how the founder of Americans for Tax Reform is a pernicious force within our political discourse. However, what’s depraved about this whole episode in Norquist bashing, which I’m sure he’s thoroughly enjoying, is that it’s beginning to become part of the liberal | Read More »
Fear Thy Primary
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | December 4th at 03:37 PM |
Sen. Saxby Chambliss has decided to part company with Grover Norquist. In doing so, he invited a primary challenge. Reps. Paul Broun, Tom Price, and former secretary of state Karen Handel all have been maneuvering to oust Chambliss in 2014. Joshua Miller at CQ Roll Call reported on November 19 that conservatives just aren’t happy with Chambliss, with some, like Debbie Dooley, national coordinator of Tea | Read More »
Flashback: Do You Remember Those Racist Condi Rice Cartoons?
By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | November 26th at 04:56 PM |
As liberals continue to counter the criticism directed towards Ambassador Susan Rice with the race card, Eliana Johnson at National Review aptly noted how similar criticism was lobbied at Condoleezza Rice when she was nominated for Secretary of State. I made a note of this before in my previous post, Deciphering Susan Rice without Being Racist – but I only cited Katrina Vanden Heuvel’s statements. | Read More »
