BREAKING: Voting Machine Virus Taints NY-23 Election

From the Gouverneur Times:

The computerized voting machines used by many voters in the 23rd district had a computer virus – tainting the results, not just from those machines known to have been infected, but casting doubt on the accuracy of counts retrieved from any of the machines.

Cathleen Rogers, the Democratic Elections Commissioner in Hamilton County stated that they discovered a problem with their voting machines the week prior to the election and that the “virus” was fixed by a Technical Support representatives from Dominion, the manufacturer. . . . None of the machines (from the same manufacturer) used in the other counties within the 23rd district were looked at nor were they recertified after the “reprogramming” that occurred in Hamilton County.

As is pointed out in the article, this virus debacle calls into question all of the NY-23 election results. It is simply unbelievable that a virus was found in Hamilton County voting machines one week before the special election and none of the other machines in the district were examined. Who really won in NY-23, and did the virus tamper with the vote count?

Last and most pertinent question: Where did the virus come from? Were there any, erm, community organizers near the voting machines prior to the election?

unbelivable?

Many computer nerds have been screaming about this since these stupid machines were added in most states.

Computer voting can never… and I do mean NEVER be trusted. All it takes is one unscrupulous programmer and all bets are off.

I miss my old paper ballots here in GA :(

Unbelievable they didn't check all machines

Nate Nelson (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:17AM EDT (link)

but not unbelievable that the machines malfunctioned. I agree with you, I loathe the concept of computerized voting. Way too much risk of error and fraud.

The worst thing about these machines is you can plug in a USB drive. Really? They’re inviting tampering.

It would be VERY interesting to see the code of that virus...

mschmitt (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:19AM EDT (link)

How it acted to discard votes can probably be used to reconstruct the actual count if the virus itself is not destroyed. It’s entirely possible that the virus was just trying to access the voting machine’s amazon.com account; if we don’t have a proper analysis done, we’ll never know. Deleting the code is not acceptable.

long gone. And if it wasn’t before, it will be now with this news. As pointed out in the article, the machines have been housed at the Election Board locating since the election.

It would be a federal crime to delete, wouldn't it?

mschmitt (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:37AM EDT (link)

Give me the code and a case of beer and I’ll tell you how many votes Hoffman actually got.

When have they ever cared about federal crimes?

Nate Nelson (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:42AM EDT (link)

Typically, only Republicans get charged with federal crimes. Then the media convicts them.

But props to you for being able to crack a virus code while drinking a case of beer. I can’t tie my shoes.

mschmitt- Here is the article

Scope (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:42AM EDT (link)

that I linked to obviously back in August. This was common knowledge. And interestingly, it states the Sequoia machines in particluar. These machines should never ever have been used. They need to be outlawed in every election here forward. Man, I bet on that day that Hoffman decided to run for Representative he never had a clue of just how well known he would become.

Machines in general must go...

Nate Nelson (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:45AM EDT (link)

That should really probably be the next big conservative project. It would probably end up being bipartisan, because the grassroots left at least doesn’t like them either.

They dislike them only when conservatives win.

Any other time, they could care less.

Remember, any means that achieves the desired ends. Nothing else matters.

I expected the worst since it was a Democrat administration that bought them. I figured no Republicans would ever be elected anywhere in Alaska ever again, but there have been real problems and the Ds tried real hard to gin up problems both on Knowles’ loss to Murkowski and his loss to Palin. Guess they thought his machines should be kinder to him.

I participated as a Republican observer in a recount of a House district last fall and the machine side of it is very thorough and straightforward though God knows there is plenty of room for subjectivity and partisanship on mismarked ballots.

It used to take days or even weeks to get complete election results. Now the polls close at eight and its usually all over by ten, midnight lastest.

Based on this article...

mschmitt (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 12:27PM EDT (link)

… the code is gone. The instant they unplug the machine and put it into storage, the malicious software is wiped (this is also how the tech support was able to “fix” the problem remotely).

This demands immediate and swift legal action. Without the code, there was no vote.

Furthermore, those precincts had better be able to prove that they (A) unplugged the machines for a hard boot (not just power cycle) prior to voting and (B) physically secured them to prevent re-infection.

Neil Stevens- Are you here currently

Scope (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:18AM EDT (link)

I don’t know if you will remember but, several weeks ago I had linked an article on one of your diaries about the fact that a way was found to hack into electronic voting machines. I remember that the article specifically stated that a device the size of a wristwatch could be used to do it. Do you remember that? I believe you had dismissed the possibility at the time, but, I don’t remember why.

It in fact seems that this hacking method may possibly have been employed with the voting machines in the NY 23rd race, as pointed out in the article Nate linked above. You have to read the whole article, it gives alot more details.

This is going to get very interesting. Go Doug Hoffman. Prior to the election Hoffman’s poll totals had him leading. After the election, everyone was asking how the polls could have been that far off. I thought at the time, Dede’s husband was the head of the local AFL-CIO, and had their support in addition to ACORN. She drops out, and endorses Owens. Obviously there was alot of union play in the election. Hoffman has been saying that he has suspecions as to the union and Acorn activities. Seems that Hoffman now has every reason to ask for a full vote recount. Unfortunately, the Elections Board head in that area is a Democrat, and, all of the voting machines have been at the Elections Board location since the election.

The left is dismissing ACORN involvement

Nate Nelson (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:21AM EDT (link)

because ACORN doesn’t have offices in the area. Like that matters. Like you said, Scozzafava had ACORN and union endorsement. Are we really supposed to believe just because there are no ACORN offices in the area they weren’t there?

The left also didn't believe...

mschmitt (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:26AM EDT (link)

… that there was Al Qaeda in Iraq until “Al Qaeda in Iraq” started giving press releases.

Likewise, for the left to believe that ACORN is involved; we would have to (A) prove fraud, and (B) prove it was ACORN. And then, at best, they’d believe that the ACORN operatives were just “Vote Freedom Fighters” called to act by our evil conservative ways.

usque ad finem

How long do you think before we have ACORN in Iraq? -nt-

Nate Nelson (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:31AM EDT (link)

You are right Nate

Scope (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:27AM EDT (link)

The left absolutely would claim innosense for ACORN. And yes, not having an office in the area called ACORN means nothing. They have at least 6 million different names, and, most don’t even know that they are ACORN affiliates. This story needs to go viral. Hopefully Hoffman won’t just drop the ball on it.

I think Hoffman

Nate Nelson (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:34AM EDT (link)

will definitely pick this up and roll with it. This is the ammunition, the hard evidence he needed to contest the election results.

Not ACORN, Workers Family Party...

Aaron Gardner (Diary) Friday, November 20th at 11:30AM EDT (link)

Going after ACORN is great and all, but it would be far better to go after the Worker Family Party and their connections to Owens and Scozzafava. The WFP is basically the political party for ACORN.

So while no ACORN offices are in the area, I would put my paycheck on there being plenty of WFP offices scattered about.

Very true, was assuming ACORN and WFP synonymous -nt-

Yeah, I just like to point those things out...

They probably are, but that hasn't been proven in court yet.

When the NY 23rd race was going on, there were so many here supporting Hoffman. SEND HIM MONEY, SEND HIM MONEY, he is a good conservative. We cannot allow Scozzafava, who was endorsed and funded by the NRC and NRCC to allow this abortion to happen. Now, with the new details about the voting irregularities in NY 23rd district, I think I saw something like 84 polling places had irregularities, their is no mention, no support, no interest in the latest reports. Not much comment from those cheerleaders that were all rah rah Hoffman just a few weeks ago. We lost, so what if the election was stolen, let’s move onto something else. Amazing, simply amazing. That’s why many don’t donate, because there is no follow through for candidates that are the flavor of the day. I guess it doesn’t matter if you lost from a stolen election, let’s just move onto the next interesting post. Thank you God for people like Breitbart and et al, they don’t abondon those they support when the election can be turned on it’s head.
