The Hour of Power

They are doing their Earth Hour tonight, so to make up for their negligence in preventing the US from looking like North Korea from space, we need to have our Hour of Power.

So, to help out, Red State is providing this thread. Inside we will post lots of animated images (and you can help in the comments!). This should burn lots of extra CPU cycles if we all keep this thread open tonight, making up for all those light bulbs that should be running tonight.

Open Thread.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to Moe:

Way to go RedState. I love this. It is now 8:26PM here in Illinois. We have every light on possible. Know Statists in our neighborhood of course have theirs off. But, it’s like voting, my vote cancels out theirs.

  • Freedomlover

    And Happy Birthday Moe!

Funny and scary at the same time.

    Found these at freerepublic

We have 2 laptops going full speed, a ceiling fan, all the lights in the upstairs going and the downstairs living area going. Leon is out at Best buy increasing the need for them to have all of their lights, registers, etc going.

Watched a movie on the plasma, made dinner, used the laptop while charging, did all the dishes and laundry, filled the swimming pool up with the hose (it was looking a little low) all while illuminating the entire street. This had to be the most fun I’ve had in a long time, although to be honest I’ve been laid up with a torn ligament…but still!

  • Dave_in_Fla

While dowloading a bunch of stuff from iTunes I’ve been putting off, running the 50 inch tv and using the blender for drinks.

  • Freedomlover

Sorry about the torn ligament. Sure is fun to finally be able to make a statement that the left is able to see, isn’t it?

It took 10 x 100 RED Christmas strings, but I lit the entire border of my little world in DELAWARE.Laid them out on the grass and made sure they were pointing UP, incase the ISS crew might be looking down.
(Can’t wait to see their pics)
Every INCANDESANT light in the house was on. I gave the fluorescent ones the night off.
Got the laundry timed just right. Started a load @ 8:15, so that it was running during the HOUR, It fininshed, ran another one, It finished, and then got a third STARTED before the HOUR expired.
While doing the laundry, I watched the VILLANOVA/PITT game on the laptop, because the BIG TV was keepining watch over the IRONING detail.

I thought that I was hearing a strange noise in the house and went

  • Freedomlover

    That’s great!

  • Deskpilot

in search of it. Turns out the ELECTRIC meter was straining to keep up. I’m normally pretty thrifty, I like controlling my spending, so I don’t abuse my meter.

    BUT NOT TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.fredmaidment.com Fred Maidment

Plus my laptop and a scalding hot shower…

Didn’t think to go for a drive, tho.

  • http://www.fredmaidment.com Fred Maidment

That should read “300 watts of surround sound power.

    Running my TV…

Good grief! Our local Fox News station has their studio lights off. They’re showing film but their studio lights are off. Geez! MSM propaganda strikes again!

Just so no one in our area misunderstands our statement, most of our lights will go out at 9:30. I don’t want anyone to think it was just a coincidence that all our lights were on. Since it’s Saturday night they might think we’re having a party or something. Can you tell I think all this environmental stuff is BS! I wish there was more I could do to expose these frauds!

  • Caleb

@mojaveband is honoring earth hour … by recording a new song during earth hour and uploading the MP3. What, do they have some kind of steam powered system?

and … why is there even an #earthhour hash anyway? It’s moving faster than #tcot or #followfriday. Umm, carbon footprint or something?

I am throwing firecrackers out after my lib neighbors turn out their lights so that the see me turn on mine.

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise…surprise and fear…fear and surprise…. Our two weapons are fear and surprise…and ruthless efficiency…. Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency…and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope…. Our *four*…no… *Amongst* our weapons…. Amongst our weaponry…are such elements as fear, surprise…. I’ll come in again.

  • tnvolunteer

    Happy day, Moe!

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel smug about having every single light (including closets) turned on? Plus the big screen, two computers, the oven (fresh cookies, anyone?), and the Land Rover with safari lights blazing idling in the driveway…

BTW, there are NO lights out in our neighborhood. Hurray for Kansas!

  • mom2oneson

The sad thing is they could turn something like this into a teaching time for self-reliance. I think it’s smart to “pracitce” being without power and using a 72 hour kit if you don’t live in a place that usually has power outages giving a family the opportunity to see what they need.
It’s the same liberals supporting earth hour that blamed Bush for not doing enough for Katrina, they don’t even think about personal responsibility in a disaster.

Here in St. Charles, I have lights on, even in the garage. Running the dishwasher too. Wife is on her way home from visiting family. I told her if she gets lost, just look for the house with ALL the lights on.

    Happy Birthday MOE!!

…as much as I enjoyed my hour of power. If any of you libs and other mindless sheep stubbed a toe while trying to find your way around your dark house, let that be a lesson to you. Of course, most of you are in the dark even in broad daylight by buying into this man-made global warming nonsense anyway.

If Al Gore is so sure of his “facts” on global warming, why does he refuse to debate scientists on the other side of the issue and discourage scientists from his side debating as well?

…for that sort if thing. You raise a couple of good points, however.

    Especially that last one.

  • JustLeaveMeAlone

The big TV, the computer, and lots and lots of GOOGLING!!!

The cats’ water fountain is plugged in, and they have their own TV playing Animal Planet for their amusement.

Every ceiling fan is on high, and I ran the thermostat down to 67 because I was warm (that’s AC, folks).

The washer and dryer are going full tilt, and the exhaust fan is on to pull the heat out of the utility room, too. But maybe I should turn that off and just push the AC down another few degrees! Might as well have a nice, cool house to sleep in.

For the heck of it, I strung some old incandescent chili lights on the balcony :)

It’s really on just because today’s been hot, but we don’t have to tell them that. :-)

  • Amy Miller

    So thanks for that :-D

  • Freedomlover

Very smug indeed. I turned our closet lights on too. My husband laughed at me and said no one would see them. I said I didn’t care,
I felt good because I KNEW they were on.

I’d love a cookie and double hurray for Kansas! :-)

  • spedteacher

All are on: tv, dvd, computer, coffee maker, all the lights, curling iron, use of the microwave to heat water, just in case I want some extra tea. Also, Moe, I do not know you, but I read your articles, so, happy birthday to you! :)

  • Amy Miller

by downloading Toby Keith’s music on two computers while watching the Military Channel.

    MWAHAHAHA! Happy Birthday, Moe!

Just for fun…The Bailout. Will it Blend? THAT is the question:

Happy Birthday Moe. 39, huh. I remember back then. Vaguely.

Everything was turned on anyway. Oven for the baked potatoes, steaks on the grill on a well-lit deck, big screen, laptop and desktop. It would have been better if I had remembered to gloat triumphantly.

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

    It is very flattering.

  • zaber

.. I guess that Esurance commercial just wasn’t memorable enough for anyone but the self-important tree huggers.

I wonder if the White House went dark?

  • keaponlaffin

The outside lights are always on. As a courtesy to possible criminals. They need light to see the NRA sticker on the window and the shiny Beware of Dog sign on the door. It’s for their own safety really.
I did not go on a nice drive. I out-sourced that. Ordered delivery. Twice.
Various indoor lights are always burning. Not just for Earth Hour, but all night, every night. It’s not cool to wakeup a 100 lbs pitt bull by tripping over him in the dark.
Both computers are of course running. 24/7/365. And not idling. I got em both working on something, always. More CPU cycles = more electricity.
All my power comes from coal powerplants.
During Earth Hour I smoked many ciggies(CARBON!) and drank much beer. In aluminum cans, which I will not recycle.
(There is a Mrs PotatoHead Lady in my neighborhood who does that, and who am I to take away her livelihood?)
I used many plastic(OIL!) garbage bags for the beer cans.
The beer is not ‘organic’ so I imagine alot of petroleum(OIL!) based fertilizers and pesticides(POISON!) were used in the growth of the ingredients.
I’m pretty sure the Chinese food had MSG in it. The eggrolls were fried in TransFat.
The sammiches I got delivered contained a wide variety of dead animals. Also not ‘organic’.

Umm..so my digestion isn’t exactly top notch right now so just lemmie say METHANE!

  • RJD

is how much power was used up after the hour ended, when the lights were turned back on?

And, what good was it to turn off the lights, if people were still on their computers?

My wife and I were busy finishing laundry, watching basketball and for me, database management homework.

  • furious

…as that generated by an incandescent bulb providing the same illumination.

    Poor, daffy greenies.

  • kayfromcarroll

I was too busy last night @ 8:30 to post my list, because I was:

    Turning on every light switch
Unloading and reloading the dishwasher (and running it)
Turning on the TV (but not watching)
    Working on the computer
    Doing a load of laundry
Making sure my outside lights worked properly
Making sure the teen’s XBox was operational
    Baking brownies
LMAO about the fact that I cancelled out about 3 Greenies sitting in the dark!
