“Truth to Power” Open Thread

Just a reminder to the left: You are no longer authorized to use the term ‘truth to power’ to refer to anything you say or do. You got your choice of President, your choice of House Speaker, and your party controls the Senate. You are the power now. It is especially forbidden to defend the President of the United States or his preferred policies with the phrase.

Only we may say “truth to power,” especially in criticism of the President. Generally we will only say so ironically, though, because to do otherwise would be silly. No serious person genuinely uses that phrase, after all.

Update: Democrats using ‘truth to power’ is even more inappropiate after Specter gives Democrats yet another caucus member in the Senate.

If we don’t do something about it, it means that the end of the above sentence will be…

    AMEN.

IT’S ABOUT TIME FOR THE REPUBLICANS TO COMMAND THE ISSUES.

EVEN NOW, WE ARE STILL BEING REACTIONARY AND DEFENSIVE.

LET’S START HAVING OUR ….. OFFENSE. TODAY.

I’ve always hated that phrase. Especially since those who invoke it (i.e., liberals) are generally speaking anything but the truth.

    - Kit Bond. Hahaha.

for anyone claiming now to be “oppressed” by certain words, or certain symbols, or the structure of society.

It seems clear to me that the only ones being oppressed these days are corporate CEOs and the shareholders who, in more evil times, used to elect them.

    How about
, or am I being too negative?

A Million Lies in 100 days by obama
10 trillion dollars in debt for his great grand children. That is really caring about your daughters and great grand children.

    What is truth?

Just one stupid incident — the flyover in NYC yesterday. If people had not panicked and loved it and rushed to by copies of the pics, Obama would have said it was all his idea. But, because it was handled with the usual ham-handedness and just plain lack of thought, he knew nothing about it. Nor apparently did anyone else.

The buck stops elsewhere, unless it is a dollar bill in which case, I want it. And we have always been at war with Eastasia (except Dems don’t do war).

    Gee, there’s a surprise.

he does this. What a perfect example of someone who is ALL about what’s good for him and damn the country. I hope he loses in 2010 so badly that the three generations of Specters who come after him can still feel the shame.

Thank you for the article at redhot about the protestors in DC.

just do not expect me to warn you again.

Today, I have officially said, I have no idea what to do anymore. The tide has turned and it appears a large majority of voters seem itching to stick their fingers in the AC outlet, even though we warned them 100 times. So now we all have to be part of 52 sticking their finger in the AC outlet while tieing a metal chain around the 46 when they do so. It is going to get ugly now, not like it was going to look any better, but what can we do other than put together a sucessful protest day (April 15th) that no one (media, politicians, others) pays attention to and if they do they mock us.

I look at risk and risk mitigation on a daily basis when it comes to engineering and safety, well, the conservative movement seems to be a fading cause, and if I was in charge I would dump the program because of the high risk w/o a good mitigation strategy. Companies are being bought by the Federal Government and being nationalized, and those companies are being given to the laborors which to me seem to close to the rise of the “one party system” (i.e. Soviet).

Next they will go after the farmers. Then Cap and Trade will allow the Government to go after the power companies to prevent the passing of costs on to the consumer. When the power company passess on the cost from the Cap and Trade to the consumer the Government will cry fowl and say this is not fair, we will have to take you over to return the wealth to its rightful owner. Here we go, fatalism is my course of action for the day. Powerless to stop this march now, and I do not think it will get any better in 2010.

I have no ideas to present to the electorate to convince them that their decision was ill advised; the only option I see is an almost complete failure of the American government system, if the future electorate is to understand the mistakes they have made in ’08. Go ahead American people stick your finger in the AC outlet but do not expect me to warn you again.

is a sense of Constitutional Government. That is, a government constrained by the Constitution as written; a government content to exercise only those powers which the people and the framers have been content to give them.

What we have being forced upon us is a government by personality, by a living myth more than even by a man – for Obama is someone with whom no one is allowed to find fault . Worse yet, when you quote the Constitution as a defense against what he is doing and attempting to do, you are going to be told that is does not mean what it says as if only his worshipers are able to truly understand our history and our language.

… But I’d definately welcome a switch. Perhaps Ben Nelson has a strong sense of checks and balances.

What you are hinting at is a monarchy: a king.

We are moving toward an elected dictatorship, and soon after, to an inheirited dictatorship (a monarchy, in the older meaning of the term). Obama has always acted as a king, and it is just a matter of time… Once his power is consolidated, it will next be Michelle, and then one of the girls.

We will never be the same country we were just 8-10 years ago.

  • rbdwiggins

I hear there’s an opening in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
