Yes, the Obama-Antichrist poll was that bad

Gary Langer at ABC has more details on that bad poll by Harris.

It’s worse than I thought.

First off, the methodology is terrible. This was not a scientific poll at all. Harris Interactive did not select people from a random pool. Rather, this poll was answered by people who were clicking answers to questions in order to get free stuff. There’s no basis for this poll meaning anything, therefore.

Second, the poll wording and structure follows the pattern of a push poll. Readers were prompted that people believed certain negative statements about the President, and were given a list of those statements to agree or disagree with.

This is the kind of trick that campaigns use to make negative attacks on a candidate without making it an ad traceable back to the campaign. You read a bunch of negative things about a person, give those things credibility, and plant the seed in people’s minds.

It works sometimes, too, though in this case it’s clear to me the idea was to get a bad result to attempt to discredit the poll takers, rather than the President. But it’s not a fair assessment because they were prompted. I agree with Langer who says:

Harris indeed goes the next step by reporting its results as what its respondents’ “believe” and as opinions they “hold,” as if they themselves came up with these notions, rather than having them one-sidedly set before them on a platter. Call me what you will – and I know it can get nasty out there – but from my perspective, this is not good polling practice.

My poll of my obligatory social-justice-Obama groupie coworker.

Me: I hear Obama just signed the bill.

SJOGC: Oh? I haven’t been following the news too much.

Me: Yes, it was signed. I saw the photo on the internet.

SJOGC: Yeah, “WELL, AT LEAST THEY DID SOMETHING”

Me: ::thinking:: Huh, sounds like the SJOGC doesn’t think the bill is going to rocket her into nirvana…Then I said, yeah, kind of an anticlimax because nothing, other than potential tax increases on high earners and capital gains, will happen until 2014.

SJOGC: Well I think that some good stuff is happening right away, such as extending insurance up to 26 years old and pre-existing coverage.

Just wait till the word gets out about the pre-existing coverage thingy…

Not exactly on point, but...

Since this poll story evoked the “Anti-Christ/Repture” thing: A lefty acquaintance emailed me an article about an atheist who started a business selling “pet sanctuary assurances” to Christians, whereby atheists would collect and take care of their pets should the owners be “Raptured.” The article ran, ostensibly I thought, in Business Week and claimed the business owner/atheist had signed up “about 100″ clients paying $100 each plus $15 per additional pet, for the atheist’s promise to take care of the clients’ pets if/when the Rapture occurred.

I assumed it was a spoof, and after several days of trying to check it out (got a bit of run-around from Bloomberg/Business Week), found out the on-line mag did actually run the story as a legitimate business-start-up article. I think they were had by an imaginative atheist, but in any event they did publish it.

Reminds me of a (fake) ad from The Man Show

Finrod (Diary) Wednesday, March 24th at 5:57PM EDT (link)

Apologies since this goes even further offtopic–

The Man Show once did a fake ad for a service where if you die, they would go to your house and take away your dirty magazines and sex toys and erotic posters and everything else along those lines, and replace them with clean wholesome things so that your family wouldn’t find out after you died what a pervert you were. Kind of a similar concept, but at least no one’s mistaken it for a real service, yet anyways.

PETA and the ASPCA are pure evil. See here and here.

Now, that one is funny!

merryj1 Wednesday, March 24th at 9:49PM EDT (link)

The “pet saving” one ticked me off (I saw it as a “stupid, gullible Christians” smear), but cleaning out the porn collection? That’s funny. Thanks, Finrod.

In line with the Gallop poll

realskinny (Diary) Wednesday, March 24th at 5:01PM EDT (link)

shoved out on Monday purporting to show over 50% approval of Obamacare passing.

Seriously though, I saw yet another article by a self-described conservative lamenting “name calling”. You see, the misguided progressives pushing for a government takeover of all human activity are mistaken but well meaning. They shouldn’t be called Radical Marxists, Socialists or Communists. They are patriotic Americans with a different view of how society should look. BULL EXCREMENT.

A case could be made the original Progressives a century ago were naive about the results of collectivism.. After a century of the worst misery inflicted upon the human race in recorded history, that case doesn’t hold water. No one can possibly be stupid enough to believe Marxist redistribution will improve the lives of anyone given the miserable failure in dozens of attempts. In one country after another, whether brutal totalitarian or Social Democracy, everyone’s life is made worse—with the sole exception of the rulers who do quite well.

In my opinion, Obama is worse than Hitler or Stalin. Both of them tried to destroy the USA and failed. Obama has done more damage to the USA in 14 months than either of those monsters.

You're right...

merryj1 Wednesday, March 24th at 10:03PM EDT (link)

…but the entire generation(s) born since the 1950′s probably never saw even news coverage of the day-to-day misery inside totalitarian states. I can still see the newspaper photos of Moscow’s main (or only) department store (GUM?), where even those with the means to buy something couldn’t, because the shelves and racks were all empty – and the lines in the markets, where buying a loaf of bread was a 3-hour wait and buying milk or eggs or a second item meant another waiting line in another market.

We all saw the Berlin Wall come down, but I recall the footage before it went up — the East Germans being shot and their bodies dragged back to the East, trying to run the short distance of “no man’s land” to relative freedom in Western Germany.

This generation simply has no idea of the ultimate cost for “free” government handouts.

I got a good chuckle from the ABC story.

FOX News Laments Stupak Voice Mail

Ausonius (Diary) Thursday, March 25th at 7:29AM EDT (link)

Around 7:01 this morning I happened to be at MacDonald’s where the TV offered FOX News. Blondie Bubblehead was reporting a non-story about “death threats” to Dems, who voted for Hell-th Care, and used a voicemail to Bart Stupid Stupak to demonstrate “what they’re dealing with.”

A woman’s voice came on to describe Stupak as a “a human piece of BEEP” and then went on to warn him that “millions of Americans wish you ill.”

End of example of a “death threat” and “what the Democrats have to deal with.”.

The people watching at McDonald’s roared: “Wish you ill?! That’s it?!” :)

Fair AND Balanced!

Ausonius: 310-395 A.D. Teacher, Poet, Consul, General, Farmer.

Personal Tutor to the future St. Paulinus of Nola and to young Gratian, heir to the throne during the turbulent final years of the Western Roman Empire. When his former student Gratian was assassinated, Ausonius threw up his hands and retired to his farm in Gaul. Rome was captured by barbarians 14 years after his death.

Mark my words, you are gonna find out this

was not a Tea Party member as it will be painted. The sentiment was not a threat, but this is on par with how our treasured older citizens feel and say.

It has been my experience that people scream, cry, throw a fit and generally accuse others of being mean when others tell the truth. Especially Democrats, they would rather you tell a lie about them.

But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever. John Adams

Regarding the poll:

melissatx (Diary) Thursday, March 25th at 8:09AM EDT (link)

The Daily Mail has the same poll on Drudge, but the headline only reports what Republican think about Obama. That is solely because the Democrats divorced themselves from the Bible a long time ago and don’t know what it means when their messiah says, “hey, we’re all friends here, just call me Baal.”
