FOIA request filed for Andrew McLaughlin’s email

Remember Andrew McLaughlin, Deputy CTO of the White House? The one with lots of Google contacts exposed by the Google Buzz security hole?

A group called Consumer Watchdog is filing a FOIA request for his emails, both GMail-based and WhiteHouse.gov-based. This is beautiful. Either we get to watch White House officials backtrack on transparency as fast as their legs will carry them, or we get to see just what Google and Obama Democrats have been discussing.

I’m rooting for the former. It will be delicious to watch Obama and the Democrats adopt Dick Cheney’s position on private meetings with industry.

They’ve shown they have NO problem at all doing that. And God knows we could never have anything come out that could potentially damage our Glorious Leader.

when people were asking for Sarah Palin’s off-network emails under the Alaska PRA and it is a good thing that people are asking for an Obamite’s off-network emails under FOIA? And before somebody nitpicks, the laws are substantially the same with the Alaska PRA probably more biased towards disclosure. And, yes, since it ocurred to you to ask, I’ve worked under both of them.

Let’s have some consistency folks. Doing government business on a non-government account is a bad thing and should be a public record no matter who does it!

their interests are on the line.

The real problem is that this has also always been a tug of war with whomever is in power at the moment.

I don’t agree with it in any case because the majority of the time it is a snooping expedition in the hopes of finding something rather than adding to proof of something that has happened.

However, considering the furor they caused over Cheney, et al, that makes them fair game now that it’s their turn.

    So threadjack ends here.

I think it is a good thing that people are going after the Obamite’s private email. But I also thought it was a good thing that people were going after Palin’s and you might recall that caused a little controversy here.

…that’s why I’m being heavy handed and pre-emptively preventing that fight from being rehashed in my precious Google thread. :-)

We’ll need to see a certified copy of your birth certificate, driver’s license, original Social Security Card (not laminated) and your most recent utility bill.
