Van Tran for Congress

Van Tran

California’s 47th Congressional District isn’t one of the ones getting national attention this year, but it should be. Loretta Sanchez may not be one of the most hated Democrats in Washington, but the circumstances surrounding her initial electoral “victory” are so shady that she has no business being there. She’s been kept in office thanks to California’s lockdown gerrymandering, but somehow her seat is still being listed as competitive this year by some analysts.

It would be a great victory if we could avenge Bob Dornan, take that seat away from Loretta Sanchez, and send Van Tran to Washington. His family driven from Vietnam by murderous Communists, himself once an intern for B-1 Bob and now a veteran of the California Assembly, Van Tran would be an asset in Washington even without the added joy of finally sending Loretta Sanchez packing.

Back in 1996 we’d just started to get over the worst of the illegal immigration crisis in California. The border fences of Operation Gatekeeper and the clear message sent by Proposition 187 mattered, but we still had a great number of illegals here in California. So apparently some non-Americans wanted to strike back, and Bob Dornan was the target. When Loretta Sanchez “won” the election, Bob Dornan challenged it, and sure enough, even in the first round of the Congressional investigation, 624 votes of Sanchez’s 984 vote margin were thrown out as having been illegal votes by people who were not American citizens. 4,700 more possibly bad voter registrations were found, but nothing was done, so Sanchez was seated in the House, where she remains to this day.

It would do great, though belated, justice for a former intern of Dornan’s to reclaim that seat for America, and Van Tran can do that. It also doesn’t hurt that in Sacramento Tran has been a fighter for spending restraint, parental oversight over schools, and protecting the public from violent felons being released from prison early.

Please consider helping send Van Tran to Washington and kicking out Loretta Sanchez, who should never have been seated in the first place.

    The Disgrace of the GOP
The performance of the GOP has been a paradigm case for the ignorance of an established entity that has actually ignored people who want to support them. It?s almost like an assisting vessel refusing to launch boats, or refusing to throw life-rafts or rings to people drowning after they have arrived on the scene.
The people of the U.S. are drowning in a sea of cumbersome and restrictive regulations, unjust laws, over-taxation, and they are threatened by further loss of freedom to choose how to live their lives.
The voters do not count. Their expression via the ballot box is overturned. Their federal government does not protect them. The federal government has become the enemy of a majority of the people in the U.S.
And the party, the GOP, that used to campaign for less infringement into our lives has become a traitor to those ideals. The national body for the GOP that decides where the funds and emphasis on campaigns is to be directed has many times ignored those values and the people. They have no loyalty to a swelling movement that is making its presence known loudly. They are as tone deaf as the POTUS.
They are an established bunch of Beltway cronies who think are in the know. This is a sure disaster for the GOP in the long run, if not in 2010 and 2012. Their strategy almost ensures H.R. Clinton to be the next president.
They have so many great candidates that are women now, and yet they are deserting Ms. O?Donnell. They stiff-arm Ms. Palin. They are not singing the praises of Ms. Angle. Instead they keep silent. I can?t hear anything about these races except for the Dhimmis? raucous objections, or the turncoats on the GOP side that criticize these candidates.
The political science wizards/consultants for the GOP are surely just lefties disguised as GOP types in order to get a job in this economy.
The GOP are traitors to the ideals on which this country was founded, and the principles on which the GOP was started. Mr. Lincoln would not approve, and probably would not be supported by this crew of idiots.

is it considered rude to ask what this .. individual .. did?

(obviously it required a full post delete, but did not warrant replacement with one of your collection of YouTube bits so … just .. like all cats .. curious)

that will mean we’ll never get to see another one of her always entertaining Congressional Christmas cards.

He came to RS specifically to troll by bashing Republicans, which means he posted in bad faith and against our site mission, and did so to threadjack a pet issue of mine.

    He didn’t stand a chance.

a white male Southern Background and have been in the GOP since 1970′s. I was so frustrated by how the GOP message of hope -under Reagan-did not reach minority votes.

Now we see shining stars like Haley-Frazier-Scott-West-Sandoval-Martinez-Rubio among others this year. I want to see Van Tran win as well. What a great addition he would be to Asian bloc of Djou and Cao.

I might add that Pro-life woman like Angle and Ayotte also have a special place in my heart.

I for one cheered the choice of Palin–I want to see a more diverse GOP leadership.

Cook and Sabato know there is something wrong with Sanchez’s re-election bid. Both have downgraded her reelection chances within the last month. A recent Republican poll shows its close, also: 08/29/10 Ayres/McHenry (R) Sanchez 45% – Tran 43%

I wouldn’t be surprised if this one fell into the Republican column on Election Night. Thanks, Neil, for highlighting this race. Please post more information on the other “sleeper” congressional races. We need to be paying attention to them.

Despite a recent LSM ‘meme’ about how Orange County is “trending Dem”, there is reason to believe that any “trending to the Dems” has stopped cold in a number of regions in CA and likely reversed, among them Orange County and San Diego County (where Republicans just regained the lead in voter registration over Democrats).

There is indeed something brewing down here in Southern California, and it would not surprise me at all if we ended up winning an upset in CA-47.

I’ve been telling people I feel a +90 swing in the house and 53 seats in the senate (+12). All of that is based on perceived anger, etc. relative to my recollections of 1994. Granted, nothing backs anything of that level up yet, but I have to believe that the 1994 swing of 54 seats has to serve as the baseline for what we’re talking about. Based on that I think 70 is clearly in play regardless of what the polls, etc. say and I think a far larger number is certainly thinkable given the behavior of the current congress.

Even in their promotional efforts for conferences, books, the GOP only shows the faces and names of old white males. I have been struggling with myself on this as I don’t like identity politics. Yet, I still want strong conservatives from more varied ethinic backgrounds. Because, once we have that, than the ideas behind conservatisim will rise above the racial rhetoric, and be heard by a broader audience.

LInking conservatism to old rich white guys has turned off many people.

I’ll contribute to this candidate. I think he looks like Lloyd from Enterouge, and I mean that in a very nice way. His story and principles are more important. I just had to mention the resemblance, I hope that doesn’t get me in trouble.

We really need to get people fired up about the “sure-losers” who suddenly aren’t. I know you’re in CA but can you do 2-3 a day? People are stoked. Link with LaborUnionReport’s Concord Project and send them over. Every Gop vote matters.

But I’ve got my hands full between my poll posting and my tech posting!

This is just a special case for me because I hate Loretta Sanchez. :) Van Tran winning would make me very happy.

I am a white middle aged male so I have seen affirmative action programs and while I can’t say its personally hurt him. I have seen woman and minorities promoted to spots that can only be called “affirmative action”.

That being said its a joy to see Carly F. tangle with Boxer on pro-life issues. I would to see several pro-life republican woman pushing TRL issues in 2011. Why women more then men? Maybe not more then men some women for sure.

I take it as a generationally hopeful sign that +30 AA candidates filed as republicans for congress this year. I regret Hardeman & Parker not getting nods in AZ & MI. Mind you the guy in MI5 is a top guy but if all things are equal or nearly equal I think its okay to push an AA for a safe GOP seat.

Ditto for Hispanics and Asians. I don’t like or want a quota system but I have no problem with selecting a woman if all things are nearly equal.

Funny isn’t it, that people that have seen communism first hand seem to gravitate towards Republicans? It’s got to mean something!

I went through districts I lived and voted in. I was in CA47 (old CA27th) when B1 Bob’s election was stolen. I’m not mincing words on that fact. Contesting Loretta’s votes was not something CA GOP relished and the NRCC went limp in 96.

I sent $100 to Van’s campaign & ask that others donate an amount based on their financial standing.

No idea why the CA15th isn’t in play, but I also see it has been gerrymandered to high heaven. Santa Clara County was or is so RED they had to gerrymander it out of existence.

My IL11 seat is returning to RED again. Adam K has put Debbie out of range for the Dems firewall. Also Jerry Weller was a good congressman regardless of the endless, slanderous attacks. Isn’t it amazing the attacks end & charges are never pressed when they chase someone from their seat. IL11th is a brutal CD, but a collar county CD bellwether.

OH5 is solid with Bob Latta in place, hopefully the county commissioners are grooming someone for when Bob retires.

Anyhow, thanks again Neil for highlighting Van?s campaign.
