It’s the GOP’s best chance in years to pick up a House seat in the People’s Republic. Unfortunately, the primary race has descended into a slimefest thanks to former state treasurer Joe Malone’s insistence on dredging up and distorting an event 19 years ago during frontrunner Jeff Perry’s stint as a local cop. Perry is a relentless campaigner with as good a field operation as you’ll see, and he should win on Tuesday. The question is: has Malone fatally damaged him for the general? I know this: Malone has burned many, many bridges with his attacks on Perry and may have damaged his own chances should be pull off the upset.
The Democrat side is just as nasty, which is nice. AND…there will be a third-party candidate in the general who will almost certainly draw from the Democrat nominee’s vote.
This seat is very winnable.

I’m watching to see what happens in NY-23 when real Republican voters casting real votes in a real election to decide who represents them.

I’m guessing that last year’s “true conservative” favorite Doug Hoffman is not going to go far as he is pretty “far out” there for what is a pretty moderate district. Who knows maybe SWMNBN will parachute in an turn the tide…or not.

Oh and Matt Doheney will go on to stomp all over Bill Owens…+1 R.

SteveLA happy if a conservative loses. Big shock.

• BigGator5

Nice! I just got a Twitter account too.

• SteveLA

Doug Hoffman is a conservative… Really, on what issues that the actual voters in NY 23 care about has that been determined, maybe through an election?

Is Matt Dohney not a conservative, or just the sort of Republican you don’t back because he’s not basign his campaign on social issues and abortion specifically? Here’s a link to Dohney’s http://www.dohenyforcongress.com/, decide for yourself.

• IJB

Hoffman is a bad candidate who lost what should have been a winnable race (Scozz., or no).

But, more to the point, in 2010, Doug Hoffman has *NOT* pledged to support Dohney if he wins the Primary, and apparently will continue to campaign on the Conservative Party line regardless.

I am real *sick* of “sore losers” this year, and if Hoffman won’t pledge not to be one, to hell with him!

(It’s this kind of nonsense from Russell’s supporters that may very well have cost us the PA-12 special election. It’s time to *crush* people who won’t back the ultimate nominee – there’s no place for people like this in the GOP, esp. this year…)

• swami7774

dittos.

• SteveLA

I too had been reading that Hoffman was going to stay in the race as an independent if he lost and wondered what the reaction will be from the “true conservative” talking heads. What will SWMNBN and others have to say if the voters of NY 23 in an open primary choose someone besides Hoffman and then Hoffman works to not help the Republican nominee win.

If you check out Dohney’s positions on guns and Obama care and all the rest, he’s pretty much down the line on conservative issues, except he makes no statement on abortion. I don’t know where he stands on that particular issue, but I’m not a SIVV who bases votes around that issue as the defining metric of conservatism.

Ether one is definitely not Dee Dee however, who wasn’t even a RINO, more a Democrat pretending to be a Republican.

• Achance

but what a game!

• Flagstaff

If we follow each other will we travel in circles?

I wonder how we find people we know.

I had to use FlagstaffLud because Flagstaff was taken. I don’t think I opened an accout before.

Big Gator 5.

• SteveLA

The Church of Sunday Night Football is in session, who’s going to win?

I’m pulling for the old guy at QB and the Skins.

• Doc Holliday

Ware will throw the old guy pretty well soon.

Ok, I better sign off or I will probably get banned tonight. Socon vs libetarian con fights are nothing, I get really worked up on the cowboys issue :) My family wont watch them with me because I yell at them for even the slightest criticism lol.

Just click the screen name of folks you might want to follow here and if they have a twitter account showing in their profile just click on that. You’ll be taken to their twitter page where you can then follow them. I hear that penguin2, who’s also a twitter newbie, is now conducting classes in advanced hashtag use. :)

• SteveLA

Just because the goal posts are a bit tight tonight….LOL

• Doc Holliday

lol, I kid. Things will get better, it is early. We moved the ball both times, just no payoff.

• SteveLA

I was just doing some football Chain Yank’n

What ever happened to Rompin Ray by the way? Show you how long ago I used to pay attention to the Boys, and the Oilers and the Aint’s.

• Doc Holliday

he passed away. There was a very nice ceremony at Texas Stadium. Even the Redskins Indian “Chief Zee” spoke. Ray used to put Chief Zee up at his place during Cowboys Skins games.

• SteveLA

DIdn’t know that was his name or that he had passed, thanks. He was quite a character in the 70′s up in the stands.

• Doc Holliday

the heyday of the NFL for sure. I miss Dandy Don singing “turn out the lights, the party’s over”.

• SteveLA

I’ve looked and looked for a video of Dandy Don singing that one. Sure would come in handy here at RS for some of the “wars”.

• Kudzu

For using Twitter is to search or hashtags like so:

#redstate #tcot (top conservatives on twitter) #p2 (liberals)

Including the pound sign limits the search to a hashtag (equated to a chat room) versus a search term. You can find me there at @kudzu35

It was a National event! Seemingly everybody watched it and talked about it the next day. Every bar had MNF parties. ‘Course, that’s probably why all the states started outlawing Ladies’ Night, Happy Hour, Free Food, and all the stuff that used to go with MNF back then. It was tape delay in most of Alaska back then, so if you had a buddy watching it in real-time, you could make some serious money betting on downs, FGs, and such. Just don’t get caught!

Art

People ether like Cosell or not, I liked him.

Mommy, why does daddy cuss the TV and call it Howard?
Howard Cosell

• texasgalt

when Bullet Bob Hayes was in his prime. The wife and I were 17 back then and we could get student tickets to the Cotton Bowl end zone for $1.

We’d park in one of the black homeowners front yards along 2nd Avenue for $3, leave him the keys and walk through the Fair Park neighborhoods to the stadium. Never had a problem . . .

Sorry to say it is a different story today.

vividly remember the first two weeks or more. It’s two weeks for me, because on the first one (Cleveland vs. somebody) there was a frog-strangler of a rainstorm and the basement of our little town house flooded. We found it the next morning. I learned a bit about basement construction and proper drainage.

The second week the Chiefs played the Colts and pretty much manhandled them. We thought it would be another great year. But what year was it, 1970 or 1971?

• Achance

The Cowboys have simply sucked, but I’m thinking the Redskins had something to do with it. Always thought Shannahan never got his due.

• Achance

But there’s a reason they play ‘em to the end.

• Doc Holliday

that is strange, our D is supposed to be on of the best. We are playing with a lot of backups at OL, and Roy Williams just does not fit in in Dallas. I think the rest it ok, Dez did alright for his first game, Miles Austin and Witten are solid.

this thing at over, we can still win.

• SteveLA

The ‘Boys beat themselves as much as the Skins won…good game though.

• Achance

That was the Screw Up Derby! But they did show why you don’t mail ‘em in.

• northernrockiesguy

Look at the stats (dallas-Skins) You’d never know who won if all you had were stats, but there is only one stat that counts, and the cowboys lost that one.

I loved it when Merideth used to ask Cosell, “is that the way you used to do it when you played, Howard?”

• swami7774

…mere club players next to the revitalized and resurgent Men of Foxboro.

• BigGator5

Nice!

Yeah, my username on Twitter is easy enough to find. I was lucky enough that no one took it before I got on it.

• Doc Holliday

and when you get a chance to score, you better freaking do it.
