Chicago’s *effective* sales tax is 11%.

The City, the County, and the State all take a bite.

It is common for gas stations 25 miles or more away to have signs saying “Cigarettes – no Cook County taxes!”.

Regardless of the really chintzy name of the online sales tax legislation, it’s an inevitable conclusion. Sales taxes were invented before the internet — this action now is the 21st century update of the sales tax,

I guess my duty as a citizen of my state overrules my preference of not having to pay sales taxes in an online environment, huh? :/

Glad to also not be from Chicago, Illinois with their 9.5% sales tax.
