Tech at Night: Net Neutrality, Google, HTML 5

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 15th at 03:00 AM  |

Republicans are eager to get to work against the President’s regulatory bypasses of the last two years. Cliff Stearns promises “aggressive and rigorous” oversight of Internet, Energy, and Obamacare, says Hillicon Valley. As the Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, that’s no idle threat. Meanwhile Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton is looking forward as well as | Read More »

Tech at Night: Net Neutrality, FCC, Science, Google

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 11th at 03:30 AM  |

Net Neutrality (which Mike Wendy calls a “Private Property Slap-Down”) may not be any longer the top issue on the Obama administration’s side of things, but questions still remain. And the funny thing: all the Net Neutrality advocates in the world working in the White House were no big deal. But all of a sudden it’s a concern that a former AT&T President going to | Read More »

Tech at Night: Deregulation(!), Regulation, Cable TV

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 6th at 03:00 AM  |

The new Congress is in session, and while some people are supremely interested in badmouthing the new Republican leadership, I’m more interested in trying to work with the Republicans to oppose the actual bad things being done by the Obama administration. I don’t have time to complain about past votes. Because guess what? Republicans who were previously bad under the Democrats can turn out good | Read More »

Tech at Night: The New Year Begins

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 4th at 12:30 AM  |

The New Year has started, and the Republicans are soon to start acting. Conservatives were mixed in reacting to Fred Upton’s words over the weekend. Some think he’s not tough enough when it comes to rolling back big government when it comes to the FCC, the EPA, and of course Obamacare. But I’m hopeful about him because he’s struck me as coming into his Chairmanship | Read More »

Tech at Night: ALA, Wikipedia, Astroturf, Net Neutrality [updated]

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  December 30th at 01:00 AM  |

Earlier this week I mentioned a story at Safe Libraries exposing American Library Association astroturf promoting the radical Free Press agenda on Net Neutrality. Now, the ALA does not come into this debate with clean hands. The ALA has taken stands before, notably to protect terrorists from being caught by the FBI. But now they’re getting aggressive. On the heels of this story about ALA | Read More »

The Obama FCC has regulated the Internet

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  December 21st at 02:30 PM  |

Today the FCC defied the courts, the Congress, and a clear national consensus in favor of an open Internet, when it claimed the authority to regulate the Internet and passed so-called Net Neutrality regulations. On a 3-2 vote, FCC Democrats Mignon Clyburn, Michael Copps, and Chairman Julius Genachowski voted to pass not just new Net Neutrality regulations, but an entire “framework” for future government meddling | Read More »

    Could Obama actually lose?

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  December 6th at 10:45 PM  |

The more I think about it, the more I really wonder if Obama could lose in 2012. Consider what was supposed to be making people support him and his party in 2008: [ ] Lower the seas [ ] Stop the “bailouts” [ ] Free the GTMO prisoners [ ] End the fighting in Iraq [ ] End the fighting Afghanistan [ ] Don’t fly | Read More »

An FCC Net Neutrality sunset is a no-win scenario

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  November 30th at 01:30 PM  |

In my Tech at Night series at RedState we’ve been waiting on the FCC to tell us what they intend to do in December about Net Neutrality. Rumors say that the FCC may come to a compromise on the issue. Instead of declaring war on industry and attempting to take over the Internet under Title II, Chairman Julius Genachowski may try to pass a set | Read More »

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  November 20th at 05:19 AM  |

I know it’s a big day for Net Neutrality when I wake up and my Email Inbox is jammed full with links, so many basically saying the same thing: The FCC is on the move. I’m told it all goes back to a November 15 speech by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, in which he expresses an urgency for the FCC to pass a bunch of | Read More »

Good evening. I don’t know how I managed to do a Tech at Night on Friday night. Just barely I guess. Because I’ve been sick from Friday night on, though I was mostly alright today. Good morning. Last night Tech at Night didn’t quite come because I was not feeling well at all. But there’s stuff I want to highlight so this morning I’m going to make it happen. Here we go! Obama sets the modern record for Midterm losses

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  November 8th at 06:00 PM  |

Here are the the last 60 years’ worth of midterm losses, going back to the second Truman midterm, according to Wikipedia for election-on-election losses, which is the standard I use all around. For 2010 I’m using the current CNN projection of a 65 seat Republican gain and a 243 R – 192 D House. Click for full size goodness. Congratulations, Mister President.

The Democrats did not have to lose this year

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  November 2nd at 01:30 PM  |

Some will try to minimize the importance of any Republican gains tonight by saying the Democrats were bound to lose. Some will even say Democrats had a baked-in loss of 45 or more seats, which implies they had no hope of keeping the House at all, no matter what policy aims they worked to implement. The problem is, that’s nonsense. Cutting to the chase: while | Read More »

Good evening. Through the magic of Claritin, my favorite drug, I’m able to bring you tonight’s edition. On the Net Neutrality front, the progressive left is getting delusional. Examining the PPP Likely Voter screen

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 27th at 01:00 PM  |

By request, I’ve decided to take a look at just what kind of electorate the Public Policy Polling screening of Likely Voters seems to be predicting. To do this I will use recent PPP polls from two states: California, which went for Barack Obama heavily, and West Virginia, where Obama’s popularity has never been that hot.

Yes, we’re talking about Google again tonight. Of course they never did delist Daily Kos after the Chris Bowers manipulations, despite having gone after Kay Bailey Hutchison for breaking their rules. By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 23rd at 02:00 AM  |

Good evening. I’ll level with you: I’m exhausted. All summer I got virtually no exercise because, as it turned out, I’ve developed asthma triggered by the air pollution that gets worse during the summer here in inland southern California. So I’m ramping back up my weight lifting, and as I adapt, it’s wearing me out. So tonight I’ll be brief. The push continues for Republicans | Read More »

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 16th at 02:00 AM  |

Alright I admit it. I’m kicking off tonight’s Tech at Night with this article from NationalJournal.com because it mentions me. I like feedback. On the new West Virginia polls

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 15th at 03:30 PM  |

Since Democrat Joe Manchin, West Virginia Governor and Senate candidate, literally shot a copy of the “Cap and Trade” bill that DC Democrats tend to support, it’s been clear that Republican John Raese’s easy days of running against Barack Obama were going to get harder. But the new Orion Strategies poll for Marshall University of the race just isn’t credible.
