Tech at Night: Google, FCC, Net Neutrality
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 26th at 02:00 AM |
Yes, we’re talking about Google again tonight. Of course they never did delist Daily Kos after the Chris Bowers manipulations, despite having gone after Kay Bailey Hutchison for breaking their rules. But we have more to ride them about: They’re blocking pro-life ads again. These ads are running on local television in DC for Republican Missy Reilly Smith who is challenging Delegate Holmes Eleanor Norton, | Read More »

Tech at Night: Net Neutrality, Google, free weights
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 23rd at 02:00 AM |
Good evening. I’ll level with you: I’m exhausted. All summer I got virtually no exercise because, as it turned out, I’ve developed asthma triggered by the air pollution that gets worse during the summer here in inland southern California. So I’m ramping back up my weight lifting, and as I adapt, it’s wearing me out. So tonight I’ll be brief. The push continues for Republicans | Read More »
Tech at Night: Fox, Cablevision, Net Neutrality, Olympia Snowe, Carly Fiorina, DARPA Starships
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 20th at 11:30 PM |
Good evening. I’m starting on tonight’s Tech at Night earlier than usual. That’s because I have much to cover. Sometimes a whole bunch of interesting stories just pop up all at once, and I don’t want to leave any out. So let’s hurry up and start. For all the way the far left is flipping out over the Fox/Cablevision dispute – in which Cablevision refuses | Read More »

Tech at Night: Lots more Net Neutrality
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 16th at 02:00 AM |
Alright I admit it. I’m kicking off tonight’s Tech at Night with this article from NationalJournal.com because it mentions me. I like feedback. But seriously it’s an important overview of Net Neutrality with respect to the conservative grassroots and the TEA party. Our side has been resistant to any action (Because as Digital Society points out, we don’t support action for its own sake), but | Read More »
Tech at Night: iPad, Public Media, Net Neutrality
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 13th at 11:30 PM |
Tech at night will be brief tonight. It was my mother’s birthday last month, but I couldn’t buy her what I intended because I had several bills coming due at once. So, she got her iPad tonight. I’m taking suggestions for an iPad Sudoku game that’s as good as working on paper with a pencil. She’s adamant that nothing on the iPad will beat that, | Read More »

Tech at Night: Google, Daily Kos, Net Neutrality
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 11th at 10:00 PM |
The Chris Bowers pagerank scam using a linking scheme driven by recruited websites is still in the works, but Google has not delisted Daily Kos. Interesting bit of bias there, huh? And all I need say about Net Neutrality this week, and the urgent need for legislation to stop the runaway FCC, was said by Seton Motley at the Washington Examiner.

Tech at Night: Google, Daily Kos, Net Neutrality
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 9th at 12:45 AM |
If there’s one thing Google guards closely, it’s the secrets of its search service. Despite praising the virtues for the customer of transparency online, Google’s anything but transparent. Take a look at their webmaster guidelines, which in part explain how to avoid the Google Death Penalty. But one thing that is clear is that linking schemes, particularly those using shadow websites, are forbidden. So the | Read More »

Catch future episodes of The Needle for a special discussion of Tech at Night and my other project, UnlikelyVoter.com. Be warned, though, The Needle is a bit rowdier than RedState. I’ve said it in this space before, and I’ll keep saying because the Lame Duck session is coming: Republicans need to get out in front on Net Neutrality and we need to do it quickly. | Read More »

Tech at Night: Henry Waxman, Net Neutrality, California, New York, 4chan, Privacy
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | October 4th at 11:30 PM |
Apologies for missing the last two Tech at Nights. But unlike the paid staff of the well-funded Free Press, every word I’ve ever written here on technical issues has been on my own time, for free, because I care about the issues. And when work overwhelms me, as it did last week as a huge deadline approached, something had to give. And what gave was | Read More »

The Waxman Net Neutrality bill should move forward
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 29th at 04:36 PM |
Update: Waxman is now using Republican opposition to this bill to claim the FCC should now implement the worst case of Internet regulation. Republicans need to get behind a reasonable compromise and we need to commit to outlawing Title II reclassification. The FCC going on its own would do incalculable damage to the industry going forward. Action is needed sooner, not later. If you take | Read More »

By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 28th at 04:00 AM |
Hello. The longer the Democrats are in Washington, the more the mask slips with respect to their true beliefs regarding freedom online. They claim they don’t want a government takeover, they claim they don’t want to regulate content, they claim they don’t want a kill switch, they claim they want to respect privacy, but time and again all of these issues just keep coming up. | Read More »

Tech at Night: Devastating poll against Net Neutrality, FCC, DISCLOSE, Free Press

Good evening. Welcome to the special, totally planned, and not at all a fallback because I wore out after a week of catching up after the RS Gathering, Saturday edition of Tech at Night. I did want to make sure we all read about this poll by Hart Research Associates which shows over 75% of likely voters (MoE should be about 3.4 for a sample | Read More »

Hello! As it crosses midnight here in California, I apologize for the lateness but do return with yet another installment of Tech at Night. Still don’t believe the socialist pushes at the FCC are driven in part by a desire to get free stuff? Take a look at the ITU Broadband Plan for the whole world, what with its insistence that governments must build Internet | Read More »

Tech at Night: Al Franken, Google, Net Neutrality, Copyright

I skipped Tech at Night on Friday because I was in Austin for the Red State Gathering 2010, but I’m back now, so here we go. We start off with what would have been the lead story on Friday, too: Net Neutrality hero and all around socialist gasbag Al Franken is now under a cloud of suspicion for ethics violations, violating Senate rules to spend | Read More »

Tech at Night: Google, MySpace, Twitter, Privacy, FCC
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 16th at 01:00 AM |
I’ve worn myself out tonight making last minute preparations for my trip out to Austin for the RedState Gathering this weekend, so this will be brief. Additionally, Tech at Night will not appear on Friday because I will be in Austin and away from Safari, whose great RSS reader is the most important tool I use to complete my Tech at Night research. First off, | Read More »

Tech at Night: Accessibility, UN, Nokia, FCC
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 14th at 01:30 AM |
Good evening. I’ve been getting some warnings for a while now about the possible next frontier in Internet regulation. I still haven’t digested it all myself, but I wanted to get the idea out there for people to think about, and be watchful for. The Access Board is a government agency that sets rules for websites as directed under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. | Read More »

Tech at Night: John Kerry, Net Neutrality, For the Children!, Hank Johnson
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 8th at 11:55 PM |
Yesterday at the Daily Caller we found out why John Kerry was such a flip-flopper during his Presidential run. The reason is that he just can’t help it. He even flips around when he’s not running for anything. In 1998 he wrote a letter to the FCC explaining that the Telecommunications Act 1996 forbids the FCC to do the very same deem and pass Title | Read More »

Tech at Night: Net Neutrality DOOM
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 2nd at 03:10 AM |
Good evening. I’ve been hung up today and unfortunately could not do my usually full range of reading for tonight, but I have a few Net Neutrality points to make tonight, so here we go. First, AT&T has apparently come out against the Verizon-Google Net Neutrality proposal, writing to the FCC in favor of paid prioritization of Internet traffic. So much for this proposal being | Read More »

Good evening RedStaters. I spent all weekend battling a monster cold, so I’m still a bit thrown off, and so didn’t even try to get tonight’s installment of Tech at Night in before midnight Eastern. In fact it’ll be a reach to get this done before midnight Pacific, but such is life. RedState diarist ladyimpactohio (follow her on Twitter at @ladyimpactohio) already scored one big | Read More »

Tech at Night: Al Franken, Free Press, Trade, California
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | August 20th at 11:30 PM |
How do you know when the Net Neutrality proposals of the neo-Marxist group Free Press are really out there? When the 31337* Al Franken is building his mailing list off of promoting the radical fringe’s version of the Net Neutrality agenda, you know you’re off in loony land. Reading his poorly thought out rhetoric gives the same effect. He claims that we need massive government | Read More »
