Florida update: Mitt Romney to win by 10

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 30th at 01:00 PM  |

It’s popular to talk down polling, but from where I sit, the polling of the primaries has been pretty good. Yes, Iowa was terrible, but that was a caucus. The primary polling has been solid. Florida’s polling has lined up in a nice, neat band for every candidate, making it easy to say Mitt Romney is going to win tomorrow.

    Huge Romney bounce in Florida

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 26th at 11:00 AM  |

We were spoiled by the New Hampshire and South Carolina polling. Those states weren’t stagnant in voter opinion, but they at least moved at reasonable speeds, and allowed for a clear understanding of what was going on. Florida is different. After swinging 20 points to Newt Gingrich, has now gone 10-15 points right back to Mitt Romney.

    Huge Gingrich bounce in Florida

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 23rd at 11:00 AM  |

When word came out of InsiderAdvantage’s new Florida poll, I said to myself “I’ve heard this story before.” Newt Gingrich shooting up like a rocket, but confirmation is needed. Rasmussen provided the confirmation.

Florida gives a boost to Herman Cain

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 3rd at 07:30 PM  |

Last week’s shock poll bringing Herman Cain into third place needed confirmation before we could be sure that Cain was a serious contender. Two new polls of Florida Republicans by SurveyUSA for WFLA and by War Room Logistics seem to provide that confirmation and more: Both put Herman Cain in second in the key early primary state.

Great Scott! I have a Sinking feeling we risk a recount!

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 11th at 11:00 AM  |

Yes, yes, I can hear the groans from here already, but when I see two polls one day apart from each other that give diametrically opposite results in the Florida Governor’s race, I get worried. Republican Rick Scott had similarly erratic polling in his primary race which finished close with 3% final difference, so as his polling against Democrat Alex Sink is swingy, I worry | Read More »

A metric ton of new polling today

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 6th at 08:00 PM  |

Good evening. We have a great deal of new polling that’s flooded in. Much of it is interesting too, so rather than pick and choose which polls I’ll cover in depth and which I will omit, instead I’ll give a quick look at all the good ones. We’ve got Senate races in Nevada, Connecticut, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, Missouri, and Delaware, plus races for | Read More »

    Terribly inconsistent polling in Florida

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 24th at 07:00 PM  |

I am at a loss as to how to analyze the polling of the race for Governor in Florida. Of the last four polls at Real Clear Politics, Republican Rick Scott leads according to Rasmussen Reports and Ipsos for Reuters, while Democrat Alex Sink leads acccording to Mason Dixon and CNN/Time. Two polls concluded on the same day (Rasmussen and Mason Dixon) are not supposed | Read More »

Sometimes a candidate is more than we expect

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 8th at 10:00 AM  |

During the California Senate primary, my major criticisms of Carly Fiorina were that she had no public track record to back her on the issues, and that as a novice campaigner she was liable to make mistakes and lose a winnable race. During the race I didn’t quite give her the Tom Campbell treatment, but I gave Chuck DeVore all the support I could. During | Read More »

    Final look at Florida

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 23rd at 01:00 PM  |

Despite a rash of independents and party switches in Florida, tomorrow there are still two meaningful primaries at the top of the ticket. For the Democrats, tomorrow they choose between Bill Clinton-backed Kendrick Meek, and wealthy challenger Jeff Greene for a Senate candidate. Republicans have to decide on a candidate for Governor between former Impeachment star Bill McCollum and wealthy challenger Rick Scott. With one | Read More »

    More Quinnipiac contrarianism in Florida

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 19th at 01:30 PM  |

Tired of Florida yet? Too bad! Just about every public pollster is hitting the state comprehensively, so like a hanging chad this race will stick around at least until next week. And after Quinnipiac yesterday went contrarian on the primaries, today the firm goes contrarian on the general.

    Quinnipiac: Meek, McCollum lead

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 18th at 05:00 PM  |

Both Bill McCollum and Kendrick Meek have struck back against their respective challengers Rick Scott and Jeff Greene. Meek has campaigned hard with Bill Clinton, while McCollum has done different things depending on whom you ask. Regardless though, Quinnipiac shows both candidates on top as the Florida primary nears.

Why I favor Rubio to win, despite it all

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 16th at 12:00 PM  |

Some may have questioned why, in my new Senate projection, I had Florida at a 55% chance to win for Republican Marco Rubio, when much of the polling has shown newly minted independent Charlie Crist with tiny leads. It’s because I saw this new poll from Mason Dixon which not only covered the primary the Democrats are holding, but the consequences of that primary on | Read More »

    Battleground Senate Poll

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 11th at 03:00 PM  |

From Unlikely Voter: In an open and credited aping of the Greenberg Quinlan Rosner House battleground polls, Public Opinion Strategies has conducted a massive Senate battleground poll. Politico has for us the summary and 150 pages of gory, numerical details. I’m going to see what sense I can make of it.

    Daylight in the Florida Primaries

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 2nd at 01:00 PM  |

From Unlikely voter: Florida is a large and aggressively contested state. It, of all states, demands the clarity of traditional horserace polling. We have been denied that opportunity yet, though, because the Republicans still need a candidate for Governor and the Democrats still need a candidate for Senate. Quinnpiac’s poll suggests we may get answers soon, as late entering political novices Rick Scott and Jeff | Read More »

    Florida Senate Update

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  July 23rd at 02:00 PM  |

We have a pair of polls to look at updating us on the Florida Senate race, a general election carpet bomb from Rasmussen, and a peek at the race between the Democrats in the primary from PPP. Unfortunately, what we don’t have is any clarity.

    Rubio battles back

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  July 8th at 02:00 PM  |

For a while the polling of the Florida Senate race had many people thinking that Charlie Crist, newly minted Independent, was running away with it. I disagreed and assumed his bump in the polls was driven by heavy coverage of his party switch and of his oil spill inspections. Rasmussen’s latest just might bear that out as Marco Rubio takes a fresh lead.

    Governors matter.

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  May 28th at 02:31 PM  |

At RedState we’ve hammered for a long time the idea that your local politics matter. We also give plenty of attention to federal elections for the House, the Senate, and of course the President. But governors matter, too. The next governor of South Carolina will affect us all. As will Georgia’s, Ohio’s, and Oregon’s. It doesn’t matter where you live. These Governors, as well as | Read More »
