Tech at Night: Google, Net Neutrality, More Electoral Fallout

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  November 9th at 01:15 AM  |

Good evening. Apologies again for missing two of three Tech at Night episodes last week. I can only plead an overabundance of desire for the weekend causing me to be forgetful on Friday. But that just means we have more to look at tonight, so let’s go. Yes, the forces of Net Neutrality Internet regulation were beaten badly last week. How badly? We already knew | Read More »

    Tech at Night: Post-Election Edition

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  November 4th at 03:00 AM  |

Sorry for missing Tech at Night on Monday, but I had to rest up for Election Day. And of course, as you may have heard, Republicans ended up having a good night. What you may not have heard though, was that the forces of radical Internet regulation had a very bad night. Democrats went for broke on Net Neutrality but as covered by Moe Lane | Read More »

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 30th at 03:00 AM  |

Good evening. Through the magic of Claritin, my favorite drug, I’m able to bring you tonight’s edition. On the Net Neutrality front, the progressive left is getting delusional. They’re pretending that it matters what their members of Congress think when their President has done not one thing to stop his FCC from going off on its own to break the law, defy the courts, and | Read More »

Tech at Night: Net Neutrality, ACLU, Google

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 28th at 03:30 AM  |

Opinions differ on the Cato Institute, but they’re right on when it comes to the ACLU’s deceptive arguments on Net Neutrality. Case after case of alleged net neutrality “violations” are raised and demolished. And remember, this is the case being used to justify urgent action by the FCC in defiance of the law and the courts. It’s all a bunch of garbage.

Tech at Night: Net Neutrality, Google, free weights

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 23rd at 02:00 AM  |

Good evening. I’ll level with you: I’m exhausted. All summer I got virtually no exercise because, as it turned out, I’ve developed asthma triggered by the air pollution that gets worse during the summer here in inland southern California. So I’m ramping back up my weight lifting, and as I adapt, it’s wearing me out. So tonight I’ll be brief. The push continues for Republicans | Read More »

Good evening. I’m starting on tonight’s Tech at Night earlier than usual. That’s because I have much to cover. Sometimes a whole bunch of interesting stories just pop up all at once, and I don’t want to leave any out. So let’s hurry up and start. Tech at Night: Google, Daily Kos, Australia, Nuclear Power, Fraud, DRM

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 19th at 02:00 AM  |

Previously we covered Chris Bowers working over at Daily Kos on a linking scheme to manipulate Google’s search service. Now we come across a new attack on the company, a plan to manipulate click tracking the firm does to figure out what links are most interesting to its users. Of course, the Daily Kos folk want to smear Republicans using Google. Again, we look to | Read More »

Tech at Night: Lots more Net Neutrality

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 16th at 02:00 AM  |

Alright I admit it. I’m kicking off tonight’s Tech at Night with this article from NationalJournal.com because it mentions me. I like feedback. But seriously it’s an important overview of Net Neutrality with respect to the conservative grassroots and the TEA party. Our side has been resistant to any action (Because as Digital Society points out, we don’t support action for its own sake), but | Read More »

Tech at Night: iPad, Public Media, Net Neutrality

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 13th at 11:30 PM  |

Tech at night will be brief tonight. It was my mother’s birthday last month, but I couldn’t buy her what I intended because I had several bills coming due at once. So, she got her iPad tonight. I’m taking suggestions for an iPad Sudoku game that’s as good as working on paper with a pencil. She’s adamant that nothing on the iPad will beat that, | Read More »

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 11th at 10:00 PM  |

The Chris Bowers pagerank scam using a linking scheme driven by recruited websites is still in the works, but Google has not delisted Daily Kos. Interesting bit of bias there, huh? And all I need say about Net Neutrality this week, and the urgent need for legislation to stop the runaway FCC, was said by Seton Motley at the Washington Examiner.

Tech at Night: Google, Daily Kos, Net Neutrality

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 9th at 12:45 AM  |

If there’s one thing Google guards closely, it’s the secrets of its search service. Despite praising the virtues for the customer of transparency online, Google’s anything but transparent. Take a look at their webmaster guidelines, which in part explain how to avoid the Google Death Penalty. But one thing that is clear is that linking schemes, particularly those using shadow websites, are forbidden. So the | Read More »

The Waxman Net Neutrality bill should move forward

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 29th at 04:36 PM  |

Update: Waxman is now using Republican opposition to this bill to claim the FCC should now implement the worst case of Internet regulation. Republicans need to get behind a reasonable compromise and we need to commit to outlawing Title II reclassification. The FCC going on its own would do incalculable damage to the industry going forward. Action is needed sooner, not later. If you take | Read More »

Hello. The longer the Democrats are in Washington, the more the mask slips with respect to their true beliefs regarding freedom online. Good evening. I’ve been getting some warnings for a while now about the possible next frontier in Internet regulation. I still haven’t digested it all myself, but I wanted to get the idea out there for people to think about, and be watchful for. The Access Board is a government agency that sets rules for websites as directed under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. | Read More »

Happy Friday! In case you’re not a regular follower of the Net Neutrality issue, over at Frum Forum Jon Henke outlines the state of the debate. The Frum title sounds like advocacy, but Henke doesn’t promote the Google-Verizon Net Neutrality proposal here. It’s worth a read if you’re catching up.
