Tech at Night: Net Neutrality, FCC, Bing vs Google
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | February 3rd at 12:45 AM |
Net Neutrality is taking a real pounding this week. The Heritage Foundation has come out shooting, calling for a major rollback in the FCC’s authority, including repealing Net Neutrality legislatively. Also, The US Chamber of Commerce is calling upon the FCC to be held to the President’s standards for regulatory review, which would certainly put Net Neutrality at risk. But its supporters press on. Even | Read More »

Tech at Night: Comcast, NBC, Internet, FCC, Republicans, Google
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | January 19th at 11:30 PM |
I went ahead and took Martin Luther King day off, so it’s a double dose of stories to cover tonight. Though first, in case you missed it, make sure to see my post today on Marsha Blackburn‘s call to action against stifling, destabilizing Internet and technology regulation. Other than that, the big story this week so far has been the FCC finally approving the NBC | Read More »

Tech at Night: Deregulation(!), Regulation, Cable TV
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | January 6th at 03:00 AM |
The new Congress is in session, and while some people are supremely interested in badmouthing the new Republican leadership, I’m more interested in trying to work with the Republicans to oppose the actual bad things being done by the Obama administration. I don’t have time to complain about past votes. Because guess what? Republicans who were previously bad under the Democrats can turn out good | Read More »

Tech at Night: Net Neutrality reactions continue, ALA, Copyright, Trademark, the new Madden Curse
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | December 28th at 02:00 AM |
Tech at Night took Christmas off (in fact I even decided not to bother to put up a post saying I was taking Christmas off), so I have some catch up to do. Looks like nine links tonight, so let’s start. Jack Shafer at Slate of all places has made fun of Net Neutrality by detailing what might have happened had the FCC regulated information | Read More »

Next week the FCC meets to make a decision on Net Neutrality. So there’s plenty going on as all sides press the FCC to do one thing or another. Some are lobbying more competently than others, though. Doing well are the Senate Republicans who prepare to fight and the incoming House Committee leadership who are getting loud on Net Neutrality and the runaway FCC. Doing | Read More »

Tech at Night: You were expecting something other than Net Neutrality?
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | December 14th at 03:00 AM |
Now that the FCC has made itself the center of attention by planning a big power grab online, it may be the case that the FCC gets some unwanted attention. The Free State Foundation is calling out the FCC for not being very open even as the FCC is calling for an Open Internet™. Here’s the punchline, but read the whole thing, and that’s not | Read More »

I skipped Tech at Night on Friday because I was in Austin for the Red State Gathering 2010, but I’m back now, so here we go. We start off with what would have been the lead story on Friday, too: Net Neutrality hero and all around socialist gasbag Al Franken is now under a cloud of suspicion for ethics violations, violating Senate rules to spend | Read More »

Tech at Night: John Kerry, Net Neutrality, For the Children!, Hank Johnson
By: Neil Stevens (Diary) | September 8th at 11:55 PM |
Yesterday at the Daily Caller we found out why John Kerry was such a flip-flopper during his Presidential run. The reason is that he just can’t help it. He even flips around when he’s not running for anything. In 1998 he wrote a letter to the FCC explaining that the Telecommunications Act 1996 forbids the FCC to do the very same deem and pass Title | Read More »
