Tech at Night: Schumer’s bad idea, Victory over Fairness Doctrine, Chinese attacks on our networks

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 22nd at 10:00 PM  |

What would be a Monday without Democrats wanting to expand government by passing new laws and regulations? Some people aren’t careful with their things and/or their data, so Chuckie Schumer thinks there oughta be a law. I like CTIA’s response to that: CTIA understands that when consumers have their mobile devices lost or stolen, it is an unfortunate situation as they often contain a lot | Read More »

Tech at Night: Big online terrorism roundup, Ridiculous FCC stalling, Patent trolling

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 11th at 03:00 AM  |

Hello everyone! I hope people have plants to get out to Charleston this weekend for the third annual Gathering. I will be there, which is why there will be no Tech at Night on Friday. Having also missed Monday due to Gathering preparations, I have much to cover tonight. I’ll start with a wrap up of everyone’s favorite online terrorist group, Anonymous. I don’t use | Read More »

Tech at Night: Anonymous still in trouble, Lessig and Stallman defend Swartz, Pickering deceives, USF

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 2nd at 02:30 AM  |

Frogmarch watch continues. Even as Anonymous has desperately tried to enlist unions into its anti-Paypal Jihad, Paypal funnels information to law enforcement to help catch the terrorists. I don’s use that word lightly, either. But when the gang is attempting to intimidate law enforcement, possibly as an answer to another high-profile arrest, I believe Anonymous and its subsidiaries like Lulzsec and Antisec have leapt far | Read More »

Tech at Night: FTC joins the FCC in overreaches with Twitter, Anonymous hackery lives on, Al Qaeda reels

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  July 2nd at 12:00 AM  |

When it comes to the FTC beginning to persecute Google, I think conservatives have mixed feelings because the problem of overbearing government is one of Google’s making. So while we do need to keep government in its place here, the situation is understandable. The FTC going after Twitter, though? That just doesn’t make sense. It’s not even the largest “social media” software around, not at | Read More »

The D Block should be given over for public safety

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 25th at 05:00 PM  |

Here at RedState I always hesitate before I praise a proposal by a Democrat. This is a site committed to achieving conservative aims through the Republican party, and I agree with that commitment. But once in a while, on issues less politically charged, a Democrat will come up with something reasonable. This is one of those times. I’ve looked at the issue, thought about the | Read More »

    Europe steeps its TEA

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  December 3rd at 03:00 PM  |

Foreign politics are a tricky subject. While the broad strokes of politics can generally be understood the world over, when traditionalists battle leftists, and small government folk take on both, every country has its own exceptions, its own cultural taboos, and other factors that make it unique. Our politics for example completely baffle your typical European. Our conservative movement has few like it in the | Read More »

    Eric Cantor’s office shot up

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  March 25th at 12:58 PM  |

I’m seeing reports this morning that Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) had one of his offices shot at on Monday night. Cantor, of the Jewish faith, is the #2 Republican in the House of Representatives and was responsible for ensuring our caucus united against Obamacare. FOX News also reports of a racist threat made against Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio). Update: Video from Cantor himself.

Tom Campbell’s story still doesn’t check out

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  March 12th at 11:26 PM  |

This is not a straightforward point to make, and takes a little dot connecting, but I think that Tom Campbell’s excuses for defending Sami Al-Arian are falling apart. At the California Republican Party Convention currently under way, Tom Campbell claimed that he would not have written the 2002 letter for Al-Arian had he known that the man called for “Death to Israel,” implying it was | Read More »

Fiorina to Campbell: Stop lying about your terrorism record

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  March 7th at 03:28 PM  |

The California Senate race is becoming a real free for all, as the candidates go after each other’s records with gusto, and it appears that Tom Campbell is taking the worst of it. It’s not a good sign when a candidate has to say that he does not help terrorists. What’s worse for him is that Carly Fiorina is not letting it go at that. | Read More »

Obama supporters: Complicit in Warrantless Wiretapping

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 23rd at 08:15 PM  |

The doofuses over at the Gawker empire are throwing temper tantrums over Obama and his support for “warrantless wiretapping.” Rights for foreign Islamofascists on foreign soil who like to behead Jews, oppress women, and brutally butcher Americans have long been a cause of the far left. For whatever reason, these people have been angry that President Bush oversaw the wiretapping of communications between foreign terrorists | Read More »

    A follow-up on Israel

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 6th at 10:38 AM  |

Jeff “Maximos” Martin replied to my criticism and while I could make a reply over there, I’m doing so here so all you guys will go visit the nice site that they all have there. I’m accused of demanding what Jeff says is not necessary, but I don’t think so. I wasn’t demanding that he make the gestures against terrorism to prove his good faith. | Read More »

Israel and the Just War Doctrine

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  January 5th at 06:48 AM  |

I write today a response to Jeff Martin’s criticism of Israel with respect to the Catholic just war doctrine. I do think he’s in error, because he gives the facts a cursory glance and omits key details, but that only leads to my main criticism: I think he shows a bias against the Israeli side of the war. Firstly though, I address the Catholic Church’s | Read More »

NIST report on WTC 7 released

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 24th at 05:32 PM  |

Via Slashdot, the NIST report on the collapse of New York World Trade Center building 7 is out. The statements of the cause of the collapse are conclusive. “Our study found that the fires in WTC 7, which were uncontrolled but otherwise similar to fires experienced in other tall buildings, caused an extraordinary event,” said NIST WTC Lead Investigator Shyam Sunder. “Heating of floor beams | Read More »
