Tax Pig: Loudoun County should reject the Metro Tax

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  June 5th at 03:21 AM  |

Here in northern Virginia, there’s a huge local political issue right now. WMATA and MWAA, the DC-area transit and airport authorities want to extend the DC Metro train system out to Dulles Airport. That’s fine. It’s their prerogative. The problem is that the Beltway people want to make the people of Loudoun County pay for it. That’s the problem, and that’s why a pig was | Read More »

Anthony Weiner and his eponymous Twitter “hack”

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  May 28th at 10:00 PM  |

Friday night Anthony Weiner, Democrat from New York City and Client Number Nine‘s successor in the House (Edit: mixed up my NY Dems, sorry!), had a problem on Twitter. His account, @RepWeiner, had posted on it a rather inappropriate message. It went like so: RepWeiner @GennetteNicole http://yfrog.com/h25m3luj 22 hours, 18 minutes ago The Twitter post and the image on YFrog have since been deleted. To | Read More »

    Fresh Washington Volatility

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 14th at 02:00 PM  |

I still have the Washington Senate race as one of the four closest, despite Republican Dino Rossi taking a decent lead over Democrat Patty Murray in recent polling. This is why: both candidates have been capable of rattling off good polls, and one new result at any time can come out in favor of either candidate.

My list of the four closest Senate races

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  October 12th at 07:01 PM  |

Later today I will find out what my Senate projection says are the four closest Senate races are, but for now, here are what I think those four currently are, and the latest polling on each: Illinois between Democrat Alexi Giannoulias and Republican Mark Kirk, Nevada between Republican Sharron Angle and Democrat Harry Reid, Washington between Democrat Patty Murray and Republican Dino Rossi, and West | Read More »

    Yes, Washington is tied again

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 30th at 07:00 PM  |

Back when Democrat Patty Murray got several good polls all at once, taking nearly double digit leads over Republican Dino Rossi in the Washington Senate race, I didn’t think it was a fundamental shift of public opinion. I called it a “good week,” and when her leads dropped, I said the race was returning to a tie. The new Rasmussen suggests I was right and | Read More »

    Checking in on Washington

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 16th at 08:00 PM  |

I’m sensing great interest in recent Washington polling. The Elway Poll I’m going to ignore for now, as I’ve picked it apart in the past, and Real Clear Politics had a note on it as well, so I’ll look more closely at the new Rasmussen Reports poll, which shows Democrat Patty Murray retaking the lead from Republican Dino Rossi.

    Dino Rossi’s lead confirmed

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  September 2nd at 03:00 PM  |

When the first major post-primary poll came out for the Washington Senate race, some questioned whether it was skewed toward Republican Dino Rossi over Democrat Patty Murray, or if it was simply an outlier. But now we have confirmation that Rossi does appear to have a lead at this point, though perhaps not as large as SurveyUSA showed.

The mother of all unity bounces in Washington

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 23rd at 11:00 AM  |

In the Washington Senate primary, those candidates with an expressed preference for Democrats combined for 48.7% of the vote, with Patty Murray leading at 46.4%. Those candidates preferring Republicans combined for 49.7%, with Dino Rossi on top at 33.3%. And yet, looking at SurveyUSA’s poll, Republicans are coming out of the primary energized and unified, Democrats are depressed, and Independents are ready to try someone | Read More »

    Battleground Senate Poll

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  August 11th at 03:00 PM  |

From Unlikely Voter: In an open and credited aping of the Greenberg Quinlan Rosner House battleground polls, Public Opinion Strategies has conducted a massive Senate battleground poll. Politico has for us the summary and 150 pages of gory, numerical details. I’m going to see what sense I can make of it.

    Rossi Ties Murray

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  June 26th at 07:20 PM  |

It’s the weekend, so I will be brief, but I saw this poll and thought I’d mention it: After so many polls showing him competitive or even close, Dino Rossi has registered a tie with Patty Murray in the Washington Senate race.

    Murray losing ground

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  June 21st at 01:43 PM  |

The Elway Poll has updated us on the Washington Senate race. And while the Republicans have yet to decide who will be the standard bearer against Patty Murray, Dino Rossi is getting all the attention. That said, Elway shows Murray below 50 against all leading Republicans, who each gained 6-8 points against her.

Murray’s lead cut in half after the Rossi dust settles

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  June 15th at 12:10 PM  |

The latest Washington Poll from the University of Washington is out, and now that the dust has settled around Dino Rossi’s entering the race, he’s still close to incumbent Patty Murray. In fact, her lead has been cut in half from last time.

    Rossi gets in

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  May 25th at 04:00 PM  |

Yesterday the word came down that Dino Rossi is in fact entering the Senate race against Patty Murray in Washington. Additionally, we have a University of Washington poll for May on the race that also came out the same day. Let’s see how he’s starting out.

Republicans need Dino Rossi for a chance at the Senate

By: Neil Stevens (Diary)  |  April 12th at 11:00 AM  |

Should the Republicans get lucky and take the Senate in November, Patty Murray’s is the kind of seat they will have to win. Washington is friendly territory for Democrats and 2010 should be no exception. However, a poll from late Friday suggests that she may be vulnerable to Dino Rossi and only to the former candidate for Governor.
