How come Barack Obama can lie to Congress but Roger Clemens can’t….?

I mean really….who told the bigger lie….?

Roger Clemens

WASHINGTON – Roger Clemens was vehement: “Let me be clear. I have never taken steroids or HGH,” he told a House committee in 2008. Now, instead of the Hall of Fame, baseball’s seven-time Cy Young winner could go to prison after being indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday for allegedly lying to Congress.

Or Barack Obama…?

Let me be clear, it would only be an option for those who don’t have insurance. No one would be forced to choose it and it would not impact those of you who already have insurance. In fact, based on Congressional Budget Office estimates, we believe that less than 5 percent of Americans would sign up.

This from the Sept. 2009 Presidential address before Congress on the issue of Obamacare.
I won’t editorialize all the quotes as it is obvious why they are included.
Joe Wilson was right.

He starts with a quick comment on the economy.

OBAMA: That it our ultimate goal. But thanks to the bold and decisive action we’ve taken since January, I can stand here with confidence and say that we have pulled this economy back from the brink.

Pffttt……sorry, I couldn’t resist.

OBAMA: We are the only democracy, the only advanced democracy on Earth, the only wealthy nation that allows such hardship for millions of its people.

There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot get coverage. In just a two-year period, one in every three Americans goes without health care coverage at some point. And every day, 14,000 Americans lose their coverage.

In other words, it can happen to anyone.

It didn’t happen to Ted Kennedy who had a maignant brain tumor.
Many of those “30 million” are not Americans or choose not to carry insurance.

One man from Illinois lost his coverage in the middle of chemotherapy because his insurer found that he hadn’t reported gallstones that he didn’t even know about. They delayed his treatment, and he died because of it.

This is the sad story of Mr. Otto Raddatz.
Once again…a lie.

OBAMA: Then there’s the problem of rising costs. We spend one- and-a-half times more per person on health care than any other country, but we aren’t any healthier for it. This is one of the reasons that insurance premiums have gone up three times faster than wages.

Not true not true. The United States has one of the highest cancer survival of all modern countries.

OBAMA: Put simply, our health care problem is our deficit problem. Nothing else even comes close.

Yeah right.

OBAMA: Now’s the time to deliver on health care.

(APPLAUSE)

Now’s the time to deliver on health care.

The plan I’m announcing tonight would meet three basic goals.

It will provide more security and stability to those who have health insurance. It will provide insurance for those who don’t. And it will slow the growth of health care costs for our families, our businesses, and our government.

Why then are Democrats told not to tout the cost savings of Obamacare…?

Here are the details that every American needs to know about this plan.

First, if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or the V.A., nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have.

(APPLAUSE)

Let me — let me repeat this: nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.

You see where I’m going with this ?
I could do this all night as it was a lengthy speech but you can read it for yourself.

Ok…a little more.

Now, there are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms — the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.

And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up: under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.

And to my Republican friends, I say that rather than making wild claims about a government takeover of health care, we should work together to address any legitimate concerns you may have.

Oh huh hoh man…that was rich.

OBAMA: I will not sign it if it adds one dime to the deficit now or in the future. Period. And to prove that I’m serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promise don’t materialize.

I have a headache now.

Obama clearly lied to Congress.
Clemens gets indicted and Obama gets lobster dinners on Martha’s Vineyard.
It doesn’t seem fair really

The difference is that Roger Clemens lied under oath. Obama is not that dumb.

    • NeoKong

But Obama lied to Congress to affect legislation.
Couldn’t that could be considered a high crime or a misdemeanor…?
He was lying through his teeth and he knew it.
Can we at least get a censure here….?

      • ywhyvon1

But Obama and the democrats and Republicans(even more so) in congress owe Joe Wilson an apology.

at a cost of taxpayers money, than to deal with the unemployment problem,
the wastefull spending, the over regulation of banks, the lies of freddie and fannie, I could go on…..

It appears cleaning up baseball and making thier game right is much more important than handling the nations problems.
    And what about Barry Bonds.
Oh, wait, he doesn’t have to pay a tanning salon tax.
    Oops, I didn’t say that.
    Or did I.
    Hmmmmm.

Do they have nothing better to do….?

  • GregInFla

to put the diary together. I asked the same question (how much will BHO get) when I heard Clemens’ charges, and the answer to me was: hopefully only four years in the White House, or at least that’s his address although he’s rarely there except to sign horrible legislation that he hasn’t read.

I believe Roger Clemens. He testified that he had not knowingly taken illegal drugs. I guess the feds can prove he knew he took some. Maybe they’ll have John Edwards channeling Roger Clemens’ conscience.

He could get the New Black Panther treatment.
