UPDATED Washington D.C. or Bust!

On Sunday I leave for my first trip to Washington, D.C.!  I’ll act like a tourist/nerd/history geek and see everything I possibly can; but I’ve also been privileged to schedule meetings with some top Conservatives while I’m there and I’ll be attending one of the best Conservative conferences of the summer.  Here are a few of the things I’ll be doing in D.C.:

My two biggest inspirations in politics are Allen West and Jim DeMint.  I’ve been privileged to meet Congressman West several times already; in fact, on my 16th birthday I went to one of his townhall meetings and he brought me up to the front and had everyone there sing happy birthday to me– talk about an awesome birthday!  However, I’ve never had the privilege of meeting Senator DeMint– until now!  I’ll be meeting with Senator DeMint while I’m in D.C.

Romney’s choice for vice-president is rumored to have been narrowed down to only a handful of choices; and I’ll be meeting one of those choices while I’m in D.C.  Senator Rob Portman is expecting me at coffee next week.

I also have a couple meetings that are pending; whether we meet or not will depend on how their schedules turn out next week.  Depending on the House schedule, I’ll meet Congressman Darrell Issa and Congressman Trey Gowdy.  I’ve been very closely following the events surrounding Fast & Furious, and I’m excited to meet these Congressmen who, among others, have shown themselves willing to head up the investigation that will lead to justice for Brian Terry.

UPDATE:  I’ll be interviewing Trey Gowdy next week, specifically about issues surrounding Fast & Furious!

At the end of the week I’ll be at Smart Girl Summit.  Speakers include Dana Loesch, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, Katie Pavlich, Rep. Renee Ellmers, Marybeth Hicks, and many others.  I can’t think of a better end to my first trip to our nation’s capitol than spending the weekend hanging out with these awesome Conservatives and hundreds more just like them!

That sounds like a great opportunity. A little jealous that you get to go to the Smart Girl Summit. They have some very good speakers lined up.

One I recommend is the Lincoln Memorial. Having walked up into the great hall, one can stand next to Lincoln’s statue and read the engraved words of the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural. Really moving and profound.
