NEXT IN LINE FOR BAIL-OUTS, MATTEL AND HASBRO?

After hearing on the news this morning that KB Toys was filing bankruptcy, I got to thinking.  Are the toy manufacturers next to be on capital hill begging for money?

It is a perfect simile to the auto industry situation.

1) People can’t get loans to buy a car (no money left on the credit card).

2) Nobody buys cars (toys).

3) Dealerships (toy stores) begin to fail.

4)  CEO’s of the big three (toy companies) fly, COMPANY JETS, to D.C. to beg congress for money, congress chastises the CEO’s and they return to Detroit (or wherever toys are made, probably China) to re-group.

5)  CEO’s develop better plan and return to D.C., in fuel efficient cars this time (Barbie’s dream car, Tonka trucks, Matchbox cars, etc.), to again beg for TAX PAYER money.

6) Eventually, after massive amounts of grand-standing by congressional members, fights between Republicans and Democrats, fights between the House and the Senate, and fights between Congress and the White House, my hard earned tax dollars will be used to fund a socialization of the auto industry, oops, I mean the toy industry.

It could be worse though.  Instead of socialized toy industry, it could be the auto industry, or even worse the financial/banking industry.

I hope the toy companies make it through this tough time, I still love Matchbox cars.
