So I guess debates DO really matter. All the angst about Perry is quite douchebagesque (Can i get dibs on that term?). This is our country we are talking/blogging about. Please give me one reason Perry is not worthy of our consideration for the Republican nomination other than he had a few debates….etc blah blah blah. We have a Country to and as conservatives this is all we can do? Please….. RStaters need to take a breath and understand OBAMA is the target. Not OURSELVES!

Even if he never broke 5%, he’d still force the other candidates to either take some small-government positions or defend their large-government tendencies. He could have effectively gone after Mitt the Statist.

Unfortunately, Johnson, and libertarianism in general, remains overshadowed by Ron Paul and his spiders from Mars.

I am still of the belief that if Gary broke through the blackout that he’d catch on. The operative word there is “if”. If he doesn’t then Gary Johnson is only 58 and there is also 2016 and 2020. Gary would be 62 and 66 in those years (whereas Ron Paul will be 80 and 84). Gary could run again and there is a lot of friendly spirit between Ron Paul supporters and Gary Johnson supporters. Assuming this is Ron Paul’s last run then Gary would have a built in base that he could expand upon in ways Ron Paul wouldn’t be able to.

          they’ll help Johnson any?

Ron Paul got something like 5% of the vote (and ZERO electoral votes) when he ran in 1988, he barely got delegates in 2008. Know why?

Ron Paul is a crazy, bitter old man. Disrespect intended. I wouldn’t spit on Ron Paul if he were on fire. He may sound rational for 2 out of 3 sentences, but that third one is a doozy. “Let Iran have the bomb” implies a remarkably poor understanding of what makes the Iranians leadership tick. Google “Cult of the 12th Imam” (or Bing if you don’t trust Google…) and learn.

Ron Paul, further, has not done jack nor squat in building any common support or coalition for small-government libertarian thought in D.C. He’s a porker of the worst kind, he champions worthless causes (“Audit the Fed!”?? The Fed is audited every pocking year, Congress has only to ask for the reports!) and his “supporters” are the worst kind of conspiracy nuts.

My hope is that Ron Paul retires this year. He’s said he’s not running for re-election to Congress, and he’s got no chance of getting to the White House, so .. I’m hoping that 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 will see a saner, more mainstream-tolerable libertarianism emerge.

I’d be happy to see Johnson step into the Goldwater role as a libertarian-leaning Senator from a southwestern State.
