In his very political and inappropriately informal February 24 address to Congress, president Obama said the following:

“Here in Washington, we’ve all seen how quickly good intentions can turn into broken promises and wasteful spending. And with a plan of this scale comes enormous responsibility to get it right. And that’s why I’ve asked Vice President Biden to lead a tough, unprecedented oversight effort, because nobody messes with Joe…. And we have created a new Web site called recovery.gov so that every American can find out how and where their money is being spent.”

It may be true that nobody messes with Biden because beneath the smiling, nice-guy exterior, Biden is a powerful, hard-left, hardball politician. Yet his own family has been tied to corrupt financier R. Allen Stanford. Reported The Wall Street Journal on February 23:

A fund of hedge funds run by two members of Vice President Joe Biden’s family was marketed exclusively by companies controlled by Texas financier R. Allen Stanford, who is facing Securities and Exchange Commission accusations of engaging in an $8 billion fraud.

But that will mean nothing. Because Biden is a Democrat and his son’s and brother’s connections will go uninvestigated by most of the media. Because indeed “nobody messes with Joe”. Nobody in the left-wing media, that is, just as nobody messes with Barney Frank after he declared Fannie Mae sound just a few years before its collapse. He has paid no price. A Republican would be run out of Washington for the same dereliction.

When asked recently on CBS how a woman running a small business might benefit from the Obama stimulus package, Biden responded:

“I would recommend that woman call my office directly, and I will be able to guide her as to what pieces of this package would be directly helpful to her.  For example, it may very well be that she’s in a circumstance where she is not able, her customers aren’t able to get to her, there’s no transit capability, the bridge going across the creek to get to her business needs repair, may very well be that she’s in a position where she is unable to access the — her energy costs are so high by providing smart meters, by being able to bring down the cost of her workforce.”

And this is the Biden who is going to make sure that there is no fraud in our budget? He can barely put a sentence together. His son is involved with a scam of epic proportions. This is the vice president of the United States speaking. And after years of savaging Bush over every sentence, this type of talk goes unchallenged.

Now let’s consider Biden’s statement in pieces:

“For example, it may very well be that she’s in a circumstance where she is not able, her customers aren’t able to get to her, there’s no transit capability, the bridge going across the creek to get to her business needs repair…”

Uh, excuse me, but what bridge? If Dick Cheney talked like this, with non-sequitirs flying everywhere, it would be fodder for David Letterman every night. Where is the comic relief?

“(T)he bridge going across the creek” is Biden referring sidewise to bridges that might get repaired under Obama’s stimulus plan. In other words, as soon as Biden is faced with any challenging question about how Obama’s economic plan is going to affect the average person, he immediately grabs the nearest talking point because Biden is basically dumb as hell.

Dumb but powerful. So we little people are supposed to meekly picture a small business in a roadside shack near a creek out in rural America where the bridge is washed out.

This is crazy. This is Biden.

And if Obama’s plan really were going to fix our bridges, Biden might have a vague, far-out, roundabout point. But Obama’s plan is only going to fix some of the bridges it might fix otherwise because all the bridge repair contracts are going to be directed to unionized workers at exorbitant wages. So the money only will go so far. So our mythical small business person on the other side of the creek might get short-changed in that way.

Biden then continued “…may very well be that she’s in a position where she is unable to access the — her energy costs are so high by providing smart meters, by being able to bring down the cost of her workforce.”

Oh really, Mr. vice president? Let’s look at that sentence again: “…may very well be that she’s in a position where she is unable to access the — her energy costs are so high by providing smart meters, by being able to bring down the cost of her workforce.”

What is this all about? Where are the late-night comics who savaged Sarah Palin over every syllable she uttered? Palin was infinitely smarter than Biden, yet Biden gets a free pass by being Democrat.

What Biden is referring to is another liberal/environmentalist talking point, that somehow we are going to install a miracle electrical grid with so-called ‘smart meters’ that is going to solve all of our problems. This is big-brother utopianism at its worst. There is no home or business in America that cannot access the energy grid, with a few exceptions for long distances to remote sites.

What Biden is doing is taking the Obama/Gore talking points about investing huge amounts of capital in a “smart” electrical grid that can monitor every kilowatt that is fed into your home or business. In other words, the grid itself will be able to tell you by computer how much energy you can use, and when you can use it. And when the government sets radical policies for energy use at the urging of environmentalists, your energy use will be determined by the government. This is frightening. This is Biden.

This is Biden talking the talking points. He shows no ability to think independently, or even to put together any original thoughts.  And this is the person who is going to make sure that our tax dollars are spent wisely?

Doubt it.

When asked on CBS what the Obama administration website is covering the stimulus plan, Biden said: “You know, I’m embarrassed.  You know the website number?  No, I should have it in front of me, and I don’t. “

The website number?!

No, sir, phones have numbers and websites have names. Like the stimulus website which is recovery.gov which Obama mentioned in his address to Congress  saying: “And we have created a new Web site called recovery.gov so that every American can find out how and where their money is being spent.“

And where was Biden during that address?

He was sitting behind Obama. Getting ready to take his new post watching how every dollar is spent.
