Michelle the Barbarian
First lady Michelle Obama touts her educational credentials from Princeton and Harvard. But her recent invitation for a black rapper to recite his “poetry” at the White House is yet another manifestation of how most of today’s liberals – including the most educated ones – are really unsophisticated people who despise high culture and substitute low culture and street culture in its stead.
This lowering of the bar has been going on for more than 100 years as ‘modern art’ has supplanted our traditional and millennia-old Western traditions in the arts dating back to classical Greece. And now black rap ‘poetry’ represents a lowering of the bar all the way down into the gutter.
The rapper, known as Common, is an uneducated thug who makes juvenile lyrics with frequent references to violence and cop killings that ignorant mobs of young Chicago blacks apparently have embraced. No sophisticated person would listen to this or take it seriously. But then again, Harvard University now has a hip-hop music archive. So even a once-great institution of higher learning has been dumbed down to the level of the ‘hood.
Why is the first lady of the United States lowering herself to Common’s level?
Because as a black and as a liberal, she refuses to feel any kinship to the triumph of Western culture. And so she needs to elevate the culture that is close to her no matter how empty it is. For her, it’s a racial thing…
Fine. So she is a philistine. But then we would ask her please not to act like she is so well educated.
Indeed Barack and Michelle Obama are cultural and political barbarians. They are radical leftists who have no awareness whatsoever about our Western achievement in the arts, technology, science, religion, literature, political thought etc. They are narcissists who are interested in money and political power for themselves and for their cronies. Period.
Here are a few of Common’s lyrics:
Dem boy wanna talk…
Whatcha gon do if ya got one gun?
I sing a song for the hero unsung
with faces on the mural of the revolution
No looking back cos’ in back is what’s done
Tell the preacher, God got more than one son
Tell the law, my Uzi weighs a ton
I walk like a warrior,
from them I won’t run
On the streets, they try to beat us like a drum
In Cincinnati, another brother hung
A guinea won’t see the sun
with his family stung
They want us to hold justice
but you handed me none
This is what passes for ‘poetry’ among tens of millions of blacks today. And indeed Common’s work does have cultural relevance. He is reflecting what happens to a race of people who are undermined by 50 years of Democrat party “liberation” – where they kill each other in the streets with impunity, where the schools are destroyed, where the mind is corrupted, where the family is ruined, where the sense of self is focused only what is missing.
Indeed this rap music has a long association with the kinds of violence, misogyny, stupidity and dissolution that have atomized black communities across the United States. Then, of course, we hear over and over about the unemployment and poverty in black America, or how many black males are in prison, as if it is lamentable.
And it is lamentable indeed, but also perfectly understandable. Because blacks are at war with themselves and with each other as a result of years of rap music, self-hatred, self-destruction and left-wing indoctrination. So don’t expect Michelle Obama to recoil from Common. Expect her to embrace him even though she recalls wistfully her own upbringing in a very traditional and loving household.
So it looks like Princeton and Harvard and her marriage to Barack Obama really did get hold of Michelle’s imagination and wiped her slate clean. Because Michelle’s upbringing would be impossible under the Common regime. She would have been raised by a single mother and never would have known her father.
Much of black culture is today based in chaos, anger, grievance, stupidity and narcissism. And a narcissist can never separate himself or his anger from himself for long enough to create anything transcendent like real poetry. It all becomes a process of self-parody at the lowest level imaginable.
This abysmal black culture that emanates from people like Common is a signal from the gutter, where millions of blacks remain while Michelle and Barack live in luxury and are continuing their ride up of the ladder of material wealth.
That is classic liberalism – rich and poor. And it well represents the great divide between black leftist America and the opportunity and discipline that blacks could enjoy if they would listen to us conservatives and would separate themselves from rappers like Common and his enabler, the first lady of the United States.
