Winning Michigan is not an option, Mr. Santorum

The issue of Christians and any other religious minorities suffering anywhere in the world is a grave concern. But United States in many cases did not do enough to prevent genocides. You can do something or a comprehensive thing only if you are a president.

You may have the looks of James Stewart somewhat and you may be the Mr. Smith went to Washington as Senator. But you are not a President yet and becoming one must be the only priority. There are millions of people killed in the last 100 years and there may be few thousand will die from now to January, 2013.

You can make the difference, only if you have the power.

In Wonderful Life, the question was what if the protagonist was not born…. You have to think what if you were not the president.

What are the dire consequences?

Your diary about Christians Middle East or various positions you have taken is commendable as you have explained in Arizona debate is good for the believers.

But if you lose in Michigan, your bid is over and the minorities all over the world are going to perish anyways.

In 2008, people were looking for solutions and not someone who can reach across the Aisle.

In 2012, people are looking for a strong leader and not a CEO or a statesman.

American President is pretty much king elected every 4 years based on people’s expectations. And a king is expected to be strong leader. In my previous diary, I wrote about the stale issues like abortion, second amendment, etc. Here are more stale items: ear marks, deficit, national debt, vouchers, no child left behind etc.

Please stay out of all stale issues…. Please stay out of right wing social engineering to social security, medicare and flat tax.

Reducing the corporate taxes is same as reaching across the aisle. It would end as gimmickry. It is neither  going to reduce unemployment nor bring back the manufacturing.

Come with bold initiatives… Talk about heavy industries and well paying jobs. Energy initiatives generate millions of jobs drawing trillion dollars in investments.

  • Increase nuclear power generation share from 20% to 90% of electricity generation.
  • Coal/natural gas/Algae conversion to generate liquid fuel. Talk about big industries and not small businesses.
  • Open 100 new medical schools.

Peace comes with prosperity and benevolence comes from the strength.

When you are the president, give only 24 hours for diplomacy. When the marines were killed in Lebanon there was no strong response. Had there been a strong response there would have been no 9/11.

Conservatism with kindness and courage and that what the world needs today.

As a senator you had fewer choices on certain things. Tell the world you are not running to be a super senator or super CEO. You are running for the president of the United States, the best nation in the history of the mankind

The last thing we need is more support for Obama-style greenfuel garbage...

Dave_A (Diary) Saturday, February 25th at 4:11AM EDT (link)

Such as this algae stuff that O is also supporting…

We need oil & gas development, period…

But energy in and of itself isn’t an election-winner, although attacking Obama for blocking energy development is.

We need a complete package…. A vision for the future.

Economic illiteracy does not serve our cause – seeing inflation where there is none, claiming ‘the deficit’ is raising the price of oil, or adhering to conspiracy theories such as the notion that the Fed’s purpose is to enable government spending….

The truth is just as damning to the Democrats – namely that their policies are the reason that the very ‘speculators’ (futures traders) they demonize are bidding higher prices for oil.

I think he might have been talking about just burning the algae in a fischer-tropsch plant

to converted to synth-gasoline, a proven process used by Germans in WWII to create gasoline, that I believe is currently illegal under current EPA regulations.

The Germans used coal, like he mentioned, which is an obvious choice because of its abundance, but anything that burns will work, and Nat gas, which he also mentions, has proven to be economical when there is a high ration of Oil/gas prices, like there is now. I see no reason why you couldn’t burn algae, other than that it would be relatively dirty and therefore illegal.

Left unanswered, sulmak, is where he's getting the algae in the first place...

One solution would be to seize all private swimming pools … that’d be about enough surface area…

Nothing says people couldn’t still swim in ‘em… they’d just be ..chunkier…

If that were the case, coal is a better choice....

Since we’re the ‘Saudi of Coal’….

But the best choice is still petro-production….

Agreed

But we have some nat gas too. And environmentalists are always nagging about algal blooms that spring up when there is a random chemical dump, might as well dredge it up and burn it if it happens to be economical, which hasn’t really been assessed for decades since burning biomass and other less than clean fuels has been regulated for so long.

You know I actually figured China had more coal than us, which they do produce three times as much, but your right we have about double what they have, at over 22% of the world’s supply.

agree about the vision

onionman Saturday, February 25th at 8:32AM EDT (link)

…disagree about the specifics. There isn’t enough oil in the continental USA to supply our demand, and the Democrats have made drilling in Alaska impossible for now. Gas is important for transportation, but when it comes to the grid I think nuclear is 100% (or as norfolker put it, 90%) the way to go.

"not enough oil in continental USA to supply our demand"

quill67 (Diary) Saturday, February 25th at 4:23PM EDT (link)

Wrong. There may not be enough today, but did you know that there is more oil in the US that has not been tapped than all of Saudi Arabia?

http://republicmainstreet.wordpress.com/2011/12/29/the-us-has-more-oil-than-all-the-middle-east-put-together/

I agree with you that nuclear is the way to go (new, safe plants are coming that do not create nuclear waste)

I would also add that the energy content of our natural gas is greater than all the oil in the Mid-east.

This thread is based on a mistaken premise

The President of the United States, no matter who he is will not be able to crusade around the world trying to save the lives of every group being persecuted. Nor should he.

By the way, did you know that we are broke?

And that the public has no stomach anymore for foreign adventurism?

And that we are broke?

And that our military is stretched thin, and worn out?

And did I mention we are broke?

And our reputation around the world is less than in the past.

Oh, and another thing, we are broke.

Authority and Power are not the same thing

geoph Sunday, February 26th at 9:56AM EDT (link)

Just look at this Administration. It lacked the authority to execute many of it’s policies, yet the power to proceed and enact them.

Hey Kyle, I couldn’t tell if you meant “broke” exclusively in the fiscal sense, or if you intended it to convey that “we”are not working right?

I think either context is valid.
