Non Profit???

Bunkered down here in my OP just outside the death tax ray of the Death Star called Manhattan…

I read this morning in the NY Post that the head of a local Non Profit AIDS charity (Long Island Association for AIDS Care or LIAAC) was complaining about a loss of public funding when she rakes in over $360,000 a year.

You probably think that she’s a powerhouse fundraiser…

Guess again…
From the Post article: “In 2009, the group, which Barouh helped found 25 years ago, got $4.9 million in grants from various government agencies while raising a paltry $154,152 from private contributions.”

Additionally: “LIACC spends 66% of its grant money on salaries”

It gets better: “Most of its (LIAAC’s) charitable work involves running an AIDS hot line, which refers callers to other groups that provide medical and counseling services”.

They don’t even do that much work for the almost $5 million in taxpayer funds they receive a year.
The Nassau County Supervisor (Edward Manago, Republican, elected in 2008) has his hands full trying to cut back county spending.  Nassau and Suffolk counties are trying to trim out-of-control spending that is driving the counties bankrupt despite some of the highest taxes in the nation. Manago is trying to introduce legislation that will require county funded Non Profits to spend at least 65% of their grant money on services.
I frequently hear “everyone wants tax cuts, but no one wants to cut services”.  This is a perfect example of out-of-control greed.  Feeding at the taxpayers funded trough.

DADT: a recruiter’s perspective

I was a military recruiter for 5 years.  Repealing DADT is the beginning not the end of a misguided (my opinion) effort for equality.

Each service is slightly different, but currently the system works something like this.

Each area of the country has detailed demographics containing the eligible (age, education, etc) population group of recruits for that region.  Each service determines its market share.  The market share is sub divided into Upper Mental Group goals (as defined by the ASVAB test) for the following:

Female Upper Mental Group

Black Upper Mental Group

Hispanic Upper Mental Group

Asian / Pacific Islander Upper Mental Group

Each month you are graded on achieving your overall recruiting goal as well as the minority subgoals.  A shortfall in this approach is that it has an underlying assumption of an equal propensity to enlist for the different minority groups.  In reality, propensity to enlist varies among different regions and ethnic groups.

——-

Back to DADT

It will only be a matter of time before the recruiters have a homosexual recruiting goal based on their local demographics.  This will be how Congress will ensure that recruiters are “being fair and equal” in their recruiting efforts. I doubt homosexuals have the same propensity to enlist in the military as heterosexuals but I doubt that will be factored in.  I predict there will be a concerted effort, directed from Congress, to actively recruit homosexuals through media and outreach.  Instead of recruiting to fit a standard, we will be defining the standard by recruiting goals.

Also, in a few years, don’t be surprised to see controls on promotion boards.

Repealing DADT is a beginning of a crusade.  Too bad our politicians either were too blind to see it or too gutless to oppose it.

The CIA is being set up like a bowling pin.

It’s no secret that the democrats have never liked those “rough men who stand ready to do violence” on our behalf.  So it logically follows that the White House terrorism advisor, John Brennan’s old company (the analysis corp) gets the task of investigating the recent administration failure.  Of interest, his company also manages some of the NCTC data bases – so guess where the blame will NOT fall.

The NCTC has some good folks, but they, along with DHS, were chartered with connecting the dots, they both failed.

Here’s my New Years prediction:  Obama chooses the CIA to take the fall, and NCTC along with DHS will get a pass.

Another prediction:  Eventually it will be shown that the CIA passed the info to NCTC and DHS but it will be too late to avoid the hit.

Just my two cents, based on preliminary data.

Gay marriage voted down in NY

The State Senate needed 32 votes for passage and only received 24 in a vote held about 15 min ago.

The bill had previously been passed by the State Assembly and Gov. Patterson had pledged to sign it.

I was watching it live on the internet, so don’t have a news link yet.

Support had been fading with the economic doom facing NY and the recent failure to pass gay marriage in Maine.

A bit of good news.

Chrysler warranties now backed by taxpayers…

Somehow this doesn’t give me confidence run out and buy one of these UAW made machines. I mean, where will I take my Chrysler minivan when it when it breaks down again, some gov’ment garage.. Perhaps where they repair Amtrack trains or Post Office jeeps…

Next thing I know, someone else with a broken down Chrysler will drive their car into my driveway and demand I fix it. Maybe I’ll trade them for my minivan..

A Water dog from Ted…

So Ted Kennedy presents the Obama family with a Portuguese WATER dog..
Is this a headline in the Onion? or perhaps the Weekly World News?
Nope, its the truth.
Now, I wouldn’t be accepting anything that was remotely connected to bridges, water, automobiles or drunk driving from Ted, but that’s just me.

Barak, not that I’m on your side, but here’s some honest and free advice that apparently you’re not getting from your personal staff
“Stay away from the Kennedy family”.
No Water Dogs from Ted for your daughters, don’t try appointing princess Caroline to ambassadorships where character and values matter. ect ect.

Unless, of course, you’d enjoy living like a modern day Macbeth.
I’d rather defeat you on the battle field of ideas and values, so this is my one (free) caution to you and your family to prevent getting gutted with a knife in the back by a ‘friend’.

Obama stiffs military credit unions

Military credit unions are being forced to cough up nearly $5 billion to bail out a small group of corporate credit unions that lost their shirts chasing risky loans. This would put almost half of military credit unions into the red and cause reduced loan opportunities, reduced savings returns, and higher loan rates for millions of military families.

I’ve been a member of Navy Federal Credit Union since ’77, it’s sad to see the socialists penalize good financial institutions for the mistakes of the irresponsible ones.

Unfortunately, these types of institutions are small and it is difficult to get the attention of Timmy G. (Has he figured out his parking space for his razor scooter yet?)

Hat tip to the folks at Military Officers Association of America
