While Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid grin and gloat and continue to insist that they are going to shove provide Health Insurance Reform Health Care Reform through a Public Option Competitive Option for Americans because they have heard the cry for this reform from the minoritymajority of the country. Pelosi and company will make health insurance affordable for all… and to make sure everyone takes advantage of their benevolent efforts they have penned a little warning into their bill detailing the penalties awaiting those who might dare to not partake of their insurance gift:
• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.
• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.”
Hmmmm….
Maybe this helps explain the liberal’s push for all of those early release programs… They want to give a pass to those who have committed petty crimes like robbery and drug dealing to make room for the more dangerous and violent among us who don’t buy health insurance!
Oh… and home foreclosures are on the rise. According to a study conducted and released on October 15th by RealtyTrac (which compiles data on more than 90 percent of U.S. households), more than 925,000 borrowers received a foreclosure filing between July and September. That is up 23% from the comparable period last year. And car repossessions are on the rise too… as are the incidents of violence against those who show up to repossess said cars.
In the meantime, unemployment has reached 10.2%… people who are adding to the thousands of American’s our President tells us are losing their insurance coverage every day…
“We’re not just talking about Americans in poverty, either – we’re talking about middle-class Americans. In other words, it can happen to anyone.”
Is this a promise or a threat?
Adding to this, America’s poverty rate increased to 13.2 percent last year… rising from the 12.5 percent of 2007. This means there were 39.8 million living in poverty in 2008, an increase of about 2.5 million from the previous year. And then there are those who are for the first time in their lives finding themselves standing in food lines. An increase of about 25% in the past year… Of course, the laps dogs in Obama Media aren’t willing to talk about that. You have to get that news flash fromthe English version of Al Jezeera’s website.
Go figure.
According to Barack Obama, “The situation’s grown worse over the last 12 months.” (That would be the time since HE has been in office bringing all of that Hope and Change he promised) and he added, “Its estimated that the ranks of the uninsured have swelled by at least 6 million.”
Then there are the 16 to 26-year old Americans. Unemployment there is a bit higher in their group. 53.4% to be precise. They also make up the highest percentage of uninsured people in the country.
Thousands losing their jobs every day… increasing numbers of Americans losing their homes, their cars… and growing numbers of Americans living at poverty level and standing in food lines… and “the children”, (AKA: “the future”) unable to find a job… and on top of it all, every one of them will be forced to purchase insurance TOO… or pay a fine… AND/or go to jail…
Wait… Who were the ones the liberals keep saying this Health Insurance Reform Health Care Reform Public Option Competitive Option thingy is supposed to help?

So, what do the homeless do??

Step 1: Require societal problems to go away.
Step 2: ??
Step 3: Profit!!
The problem with America is stupidity. I’m not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don’t we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
Exactly,
Leopard1996 Monday, November 9th at 4:30PM EST (link)This whole health care bill as it stands now, is going to be the death knell of this economy, because businesses will not hire people unless totally necessary, and for those that are unemployed, I am sure that not all of them will “qualify” for a “hardship” voucher.
All I am waiting for is the first lib, who gets swept up and has to server some jail time, that whole provision will get challenged in the Supreme Court. and I say lib because if it is one of us, no lib lawyer will take the case.

Let's not distort the facts
Menlo Monday, November 9th at 6:10PM EST (link)The penalties you cited already exist and have for some time. They are NOT part of the health care bill but part of the tax code for evasion of taxes.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, this is an income tax in disguise. People who have no income will have no penalty.
The penalty for not having insurance is 2.5 percent of income. It is a tax increase of 2.5 percent from which insured people will be exempt.
This is in truth a tax increase that serves no purpose but to not make Obama look like the liar he is.

totally agree Menlo. The only question is if Obama will have to admit this before or as a legal justification in response to the lawsuit - nt

If Pelosi-care is ultimately passed with an opt-out provision,
David123 Monday, November 9th at 6:24PM EST (link)would this mean that taxpayers in some states would pay higher federal taxes than taxpayers in other states?
David123
no, it would only mean that opt-out state citizens would pay for something they can't get, which is why
Mike gamecock DeVine Monday, November 9th at 6:28PM EST (link)no state would opt out.

Scope Monday, November 9th at 7:33PM EST (link)Yesterday, on Chris Wallace, McDonnell said he was against any government run, public option, health program. He said that he was much in favor of state opt-outs. Does that mean we are already looking at a hope than already can never be achieved? He has also pushed for drilling off VA coasts. The newly elected Atty General Cuccinelli has said that he is a big 10th amendment supporter, and, will look for every way possible to buck the federal mandates. Am I correct in thinking that a state is only responsible to the federal government for particular programs, if they take federal monies for those programs? Is it possible for states to stand on their own financially?

I would be shocked if McConnell is for any public option opt out alternative
Mike gamecock DeVine Monday, November 9th at 10:07PM EST (link)You will need to send me the link. No state would opt out. See Medicaid. It also has an opt out provision, and no state ever has. They are hooked on the matching funds and no ot out allows opting out of the taxes to pay for programs. See also highway matching funds, etc.

The matching funds clause will dicate what states do.
Steph C Monday, November 9th at 7:49PM EST (link)And we can expect more taxes at the state and local levels to make up the states’ parts to get those federal funds. BCM has it right. We have become slaves.

Menlo Monday, November 9th at 11:49PM EST (link)Whenever I hear claims that sound too outrageous to be true, even if they are coming from a source I trust and respect, I always research them to find the counterarguments and all the details. I don’t generally accept headlines, sound bites, and even news articles.
Details I may not have thought of can matter, even if they don’t change where I stand on something. Sometimes though, they don’t have any valid counterarguments. I at least like to look it up.
This “mandate” would be better if modeled after the one in Germany, where penalties only apply, with back penalties, to uninsured people who seek medical care and cannot pay for it. I would even favor such a proposal in that case.
