Federal Repeal of the Constitutional Right to Self Govern
After “judicial activism” was used making it possible for a judge to usurp authority over any state’s sovereignty to force recognition of same sex marriage thirty-two states responded by exercising the constitutional Right to” Self-Govern”and amended state constitutions to recognize marriage as the union between one man and one woman. As a result, The Defense Of Marriage Act(DOMA) was introduced and approved by overwhelming bipartisan majorities in both houses of Congress (342-67 in the House,85-14 in the Senate)and signed into law by Pres. Clinton in 1996 to protect the states’ right to self-govern on the issue.
Pres. Clinton has since acknowledged that he signed(DOMA)to prevent the U.S. Congress from Amending the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman and thereby remove any possibility of repeal and possible development of national recognition of same sex marriage altogether.
Approximately forty-four states have resolved the same sex marriage issue at the state level, but because of the continuing difference of opinion between U.S. Congress and the States in whether same sex marriage is a civil right and no clear course to advance the same sex marriage agenda at the state level, the U.S. Senate has recently endeavored to usurp authority over the States’constitutional right to self-govern by repealing the Defense of Marriage Act in its’ entirety and return to its’ original attempt of “Judicial Activism” to federally mandate every state recognize same sex marriage on a national level.
Again,(DOMA)’s purpose is to “protect” the States’ right to self govern from such socialist tyranny and the danger in repealing the (DOMA) is that it sets a Government precedent which can be used again and again to usurp federal authority over the States and force all states to adhere to government control and ideology.
Mar.3, 2011, Rep. Paul Broun introduced H.J. Res.45 as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution ensure the States’ constitutional right to self-govern on the issue. This legislation was referred to the House Judicial Committee where it remains awaiting further action…
The quest to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act(DOMA) was revealed by U.S. Senate in November 2011.
Below is an excerpt on the issue released by the Family Research Council November, 2011.
“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 10, 2011 CONTACT: J.P. Duffy or Darin Miller, (866) FRC-NEWS or (866) 372-6397 Senate Judiciary Committee DOMA Vote Shows Disrespect for Marriage and Voters WASHINGTON, D.C. – Family Research Council criticized the Senate Judiciary Committee today for its vote to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The Defense of Marriage Act was approved in 1996 by overwhelming bipartisan majorities in both houses of Congress (342-67 in the House, 85-14 in the Senate) and signed into law by President Clinton. Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made the following comments: “Today’s vote disrespects Americans across the country who want to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman – and have done as much in the 31 states who have passed statewide referenda in favor of marriage. It will also require Americans in every state to subsidize homosexual couples by using tax dollars to provide them with federal benefits.” ”
With your collective involvement we can insure the people’s right to self-govern on all social issues.
Please contact both your Senate and House Congressional Representative and encourage them to support (H.J. Res.45) and the Defense of Marriage Act to protect the people’s Constitutional Right to Self-Govern.
