The most important issue facing us today?

I don’t know about anyone else, but the economy is not the “it” issue for me. I’m much more concerned about national security. What the he!! difference does it make if my stocks are doing well if I have to worry about homicide bombers at the grocery store? I understand that people worry about losing their jobs and homes but seriously I would rather be homeless and free from the day to day fear of death by terrorism than living in a nice house I’m afraid to leave.

Does anyone else feel this way or am I way off base here?

A week ago there was a good deal of buzz about increased chatter among terrorists, especially the remnants of Al-Qaeda. England raised their alert level to “Critical” as a result.

One of my few remaining contacts in the State Department said there was speculation about another Al-Qaeda attack on America in the next weeks, the idea being it would force the pacifist agenda of Big Brobama on to victory.

The tactic helped to elect Socialists in Spain. As a result, Islamo-Fascists will be thinking something similar could be used here.

America is not Spain: if anything, such an attack would guarantee a McCain victory. Whether he became president, or even if Big Brobama were still elected, both would practically be forced into a military – rather than a “police” – reaction, probably against Iran, possibly against at least the hinterlands of Pakistan.

On the other hand, the terrorists might believe the polls and relent for a while, hoping Big Brobama will be Neville Chamberlain II and allow them to do what they want,
    wherever they want.

We are victims of what I have called our unknown and invisible success in Iraq: one poll listed terrorism as barely touching 10% right now as a major issue.

PaulaG: I understand your concern: but right now, as a campaign tactic, few are buying that used car.

I wasn’t really proposing it as a campaign strategy; more like just musing on why more people don’t think this way. Americans have regretably short memories and are apparently devoid of the ability to imagine how things could be.

Sorry to say you’re selling something that is theoretical at best when reality is looking people in the eye.

Theoretical is the assertion that if a Democratic majority is elected or heavens forbid “The One”, terrorists will suddenly start bombing the corner grocery store. It’s not going to happen, at least in the short to medium term.

The reality staring people in the face is job loss, loss of home, loss of place in society caused by the economic down turn.

You can play the blame game, but it’s a bad game to play when all parties and the President get to wear some of the blame for this problem. I don’t think McCain is closing the sale of making this problem an all Democratic production, and therein lies the rub.
