More on Katon Dawson

Katon Dawson has a column today on Politico, GOP Need Courage of Convictions I agree. Throughout the article, Mr. Dawson demonstrates that he can, indeed, “talk the talk” about what is wrong with the Republican Party and what needs to be done to fix it.

What I’m wondering, and I’m hoping that there are some folks from South Carolina here who can tell us, is if he “walks the walk.” In particular, towards the end of his column, he says:

I am a strong believer in the spirit of collaboration. There are a number of well-qualified individuals seeking the RNC chairmanship, and if I am elected I would be certain to include these leaders in our effort to help grow and strengthen the Republican Party.

But looking at the South Carolina GOP website gives you the feeling that it’s all about Katon Dawson. I wonder how successful he’s been in South Carolina. I know there was another thread about Katon Dawson a few days ago and it was mentioned that he seems to be ambitious. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

And a question from me to end this…who actually elects the RNC Chair? Thanks!

However, I read somewhere recently that he used to belong to a whites-only country club. If true, then that is bad publicity that the GOP doesn’t need right now. It’s unfair and untrue, but you know that the GOP has an image problem when it comes to race relations, and this won’t help.

And the members of the RNC elect the chairman. There are about 160-170 members that consist of (I am unsure about this) state party chairmen, elected officials, etc.
