WA-05 Cathy McMorris Rodgers
Today Rodgers won election as the Vice Chairwoman of the House Republican Caucus. Here’s a link to the Seattle Times article (you can skip the first part about Patty Murray if you don’t have a strong stomach). And here’s a Wikipedia article about her. I know this isn’t actually much information to go on. Unfortunately, since she’s from the other side of the state, I | Read More »
WA-01 Jay Inslee
Jay Inslee(D) is our US Representative in the 1st District. He was originally elected to the House in 1992 from the 4th District, but proved too liberal for his Central Washington constituents and was defeated by Doc Hastings after one term. After moving to the west side, he ran for Governor in 1996 but was defeated in the primaries by Gary Locke. In 1998, he | Read More »
WA-08 Dave Reichert
After reading AceinTx’s update on the RMSP, I did a (very little) bit of checking into Dave Reichert’s record. For anyone who doesn’t know, Reichert was a popular King County Sheriff, under whose tenure the Green River Killer was arrested, tried and convicted. Capitalizing on that popularity, in 2004 he ran for Jennifer Dunn’s open seat in the US House and defeated local talk show | Read More »
WA-01 Snohomish County Republicans – 10/19/08 Update
I’ve now been in contact with the Chair of the SnoCo Republicans. I’m not in a position to say that my previous diary entry on this topic was wrong but I have at least been assured that they are planning for 2009 (city and county races) and beyond and I’ve been invited to the next meeting. In contrast to my first contact, there seems to | Read More »
First off, thanks to Moe for suggesting something I can actually do with all this pent up, post-election energy. Second, let me apologize in advance for the sketchy information I’m about to offer. I haven’t been as involved in local politics as I probably should have been. When I have more information on any of the following, I’ll post new diaries. WA-01 includes parts of | Read More »
Snohomish County Republicans
A few days ago, I e-mailed the Snohomish County Republicans in disgust over the sorry state of their website. I was looking for inspiration and an action plan and all I found was pre-election news. After having received no response, this morning I e-mailed a few people on the Executive Committee individually. Here’s what I found out.
Support Governor Sarah Palin
I’ve started a petition to be sent to the Republican governors, asking them to please stand together to help lead this country forward. The text of the petition: We the undersigned protest those unnamed governors who anonymously criticized Governor Sarah Palin while speaking to the press after the Republican Governors Association press conference. Criticizing Governor Palin in this manner reflects poorly on all Republicans and | Read More »
Language Abuse Alert
Abandon: to leave completely and finally; forsake utterly; desert* The AP would have us believe that the US Military is abandoning Iraqi cities to a cruel fate*. At best, their headline could be considered a gross exaggeration. Consider this snippet: Now the Americans are reversing direction, consolidating in larger bases outside the cities and leaving security in the hands of the Iraqis while remaining within | Read More »
I visited the Washington State Republican Party’s website yesterday, eager to see their plan for mobilizing for 2010. I was surprised to find that the site had not been updated since before last Tuesday’s election. What’s up with that?
My note to John McCain.
Dear Senator McCain: I’m contacting you to let you know how very disappointed I am that you have not come forward to stop the vicious smears against Sarah Palin coming from within the ranks of your campaign. One is conditioned to expect vile behavior on the part of the radical left but it is shocking and unacceptable when it comes from within our own party. | Read More »
Looking on the Bright Side:
Dick Morris gives a different perspective on losing the White House. Man, can that guy turn a negative into a positive! If ever there was an election that was not worth winning, it was the contest of 2008. While it was hard-fought on both sides, had McCain won, it might have spelled the end of the Republican Party. As it is, the party is well-situated | Read More »
What can an ordinary person do to help try to steer this country back in the right direction? I’m pretty shy and don’t have a lot of spare cash to support conservative causes. Seriously, I’m looking for suggestions.
Newsmax: Obama Fails to Gain Among Churchgoers
Certainly not I. The unprecedented effort that Democrat Barack Obama put into courting the white churchgoing public has apparently failed, according to a new Gallup Poll. The poll shows that Obama is backed by just 28 percent of white voters who attend church at least once a week — a group that makes up roughly a third of all voters. That’s actually one point less | Read More »
Obama’s latest blind spot: Aunt’s illegal immigration status. He didn’t mention her living conditions; does that mean he knew she was living in a slum and did nothing about it? Recap of other things he didnt know: That Ayers was a terrorist. That Reverend Wright was a hate-spewing racist. Please feel free to add to the list. This is a case where the libs want | Read More »
Vetting the Media
They were talking about this over at Ace…looks like somebody actually got on it. I found this at Newsmax. Anderson Cooper’s Joe the Plumber Moment Serves him right for trashing Joe.
Seriously, what kind of dweeb wears a suit to take his daughter trick or treating? Obama trick or treats with daughter
Palin is a Drag on the Ticket
ABC News: President Bush, Sarah Palin Weigh on McCain Are these people out of their minds? If anyone here believes that John McCain would be withing striking distance today with Mitt Romney (yawn) or Mike Huckabee (double yawn) on the ticket, we need to talk. I have a lovely piece of ocean view property near Phoenix that I’d like to sell you.
What’s up at CNN?
Is CNN starting to play “cover my a$$” in case of a McCain victory? Embedded video from CNN Video In all fairness to Campbell Brown, she didn’t try to pretty it up. She called a lie a lie. I think this piece might be at least a little damaging; Middle American hates liars and greedy people. Also a plut that it’s on CNN, so you | Read More »
I’ll say it again.
Okay, this is my last try! It’s not like this is really important (although I promise, I do sometimes think about important things!) but I was suprised to see this, to say the least. Anyway, what kind of mother would allow her – what, 11? 12? – year old daughter to wear this? Seriously, this is the kind of girl who will grow up and | Read More »
