Rick Perry Going Big – an Addendum

In the comment thread of my previous diary about the rehabilitation of Rick Perry’s campaign, bzip shared a YouTube video of Perry at Sean Hannity’s Freedom Concert in Dallas in August 2010. I think it’s an important addendum to my previous post because it shows a side of Perry those of us in the flyover states have not yet seen:

The first thing I noticed is that though I searched and searched, I could not find a teleprompter. And you can’t teach what Perry did on that stage. While there are a lot of elites in the media and on the left and right coasts who will hate the raw Americanism of that presentation, it will resonate with millions of patriotic Americans – the Tea Party, the troops, the veterans, the seniors.  The stark contrast to Obama’s whining, milquetoast, meh-America attitude makes Obama look like a weak, silly schoolgirl in comparison. If this Rick Perry shows up on the stump and he can become disciplined in the debates, he will be a contender.

Moreover, I think he has a better chance of beating Obama than Romney does, simply because he is naturally charismatic and his policies are bold and visionary. Romney is nice and decent and his policies will tinker around the edges and take the country in for its regular 4-year tune-up. The country wasn’t in the mood for that in 2008 and with the current crises in the world, we’re certainly not in the mood for tinkering now.

[Disclaimer #1: I have not yet settled on a candidate, though I have ruled out Romney, Paul, Huntsman, Johnson, and Cain]

[Disclaimer #2: I will vote for any one of the above-named candidates vs. Obama]

    that’s where he learned it.

He’s in good company with GOP former cheerleaders.

Perry now needs to direct it towards anti-Obama campaign issues, working in his own solutions.

With the message: “This is the fire we want and are looking for! This person wins elections!”

He would be the kind of president who would remind us how much we take for granted, how much we have to be thankful for. He’d be the kind of president who could give us history lessons in his speeches a la Ronald Reagan. He’s not afraid to use the bully pulpit and give us a good shake. He would be the kind of president who would say, “Chin up! You’re Americans, the blood of patriots flows in your veins, and you can face anything that comes your way.”

Now that’s what I call some real hope and change. Not fluffy visions in the sky, but REAL hope based on hard work, a reliance on Divine Providence, and a return to our founding principles.

It must be because there is more positive spin about him than every other candidate combined. Admittedly I am a Newt supporter and not a big Perry fan, but the constant apologizing for Perry on this site is sickening. Face it, he is not going to win the nomination, no matter how much he spends on top billing on this blog.

And no, I agree that Newt has no chance either because I am a realist, though I wish he had the spin doctors Perry has on million dollar retainers.

      • jakeofalltrades

not the reverse. And he will be the nominee. I wouldn’t be wasting my money on a loser.

touching. As soon as I saw the picture I started crying. Thanks for doing this. There is no doubt that the love of God is in Perry’s heart.

          • changeforrickperry

There are so many wonderful stories, aren’t there? I would love to have a president who I knew really cared about me and my family and all my fellow Americans. I can’t say the same for the Current Resident of 1600. That diary made my support for Perry even stronger, if that is possible!

Off-topic–texasroots, I’m just curious, but are you a homeschooler? There was a comment somewhere in the past that made me wonder…I could be completely wrong and I apologize if I am, I was just wondering if there were any other homeschoolers here.

          • texasroots

I could not help but cry. No, I am not a homeschooler, but parochial and public school graduate. I admire that you are homeschooler.

          • changeforrickperry

Thanks for letting me know! I’m a graduate myself, so thus far we are equals ;)

If you don’t mind me being specific–what picture was it that made you cry? I love the one of Perry and Heather Burcham. He just seems like such a compassionate man. How many men do you think would be completely willing to give a young lady a fun afternoon on his motorcycle?

There’s a speech Anita Perry gave in South Carolina where she talks a lot about Marcus Luttrell. Apparently, when they gathered their family together to talk about Perry running for president, Marcus was included, and was initially the only “family member” who opposed the idea. But he changed his mind after Perry announced; he texted Anita to tell her that, after attending the funeral of yet another fallen soldier, he was in all the way for Perry. You would probably really enjoy that video; Anita is such a lovely lady and tells wonderful stories.

          • texasroots

comforting the mother of fallen army pfc. I also like the one of Perry and Heather Burcham just enjoying life to the fullest.

I saw the speech of Anita Perry in S.C. I remember seeing Marcus on one of the channels sometime ago.

      • tngal

Perry announced his pres bid at a red state event so naturally there will be a lot of “home grown” enthusiasm. Although the “positive spin” for him, as you so politely refer to it, is a little heavy. There’s two or three that are particularly irksome against supporters of other candidates.

Go ahead and play with them for a few minutes, and when you get tired of them just walk away. Oh, they’ll continue to talk to themselves for a bit with stuff like “I’m waiting for an answer”, “why don’t you answer the question” and “oh yeah, well so’s your mother!”

        You know, the usual.

I’m looking at the right side of the screen right now that says 23,611 people like RedState. I don’t know what the membership numbers are, the moderators or those in charge of RedState could provide that info if they wanted. The RedState “gathering” had something like 300 members in attendance. That was the last one that had invited Gov. Perry as a guest speaker, long before he had made a decision to run for the Presidency.

Many articles written here at RedState are linked at the Hill, RCP etc. That brings more people here as members, wanting to comment positively or negatively about that particular article. So, your idea of homegrown enthusiastic terrorists, here supporting Perry, is immediately blown out of the water. Don’t forget that many of those 300 gathering attendees are not on the Perry bandwagon.

Your idea of “playing” with the RS members that ask questions of supporters candidates, and seriously wanting to understand why someone supports someone, other than he’s likable are valid and worthy questions. The fact that you cannot back up your support with much of any substance is why the questions are still being asked.

You are welcome to knock the Perrybots, and you have, but, at least the majority of Perry supporters have cited facts and records to back up their support. You have been unwilling or unable to put any meat on your reasons for backing Cain.

          • Scope

You have also been unwilling to acknowledge any of Cain’s faults.

          • onemovoter

I figured I’d wait long enough after tngal’s post to see who else responded to the insults.

My post was my reaction to some who want to not only attack the messenger, but the site as a whole. We all know that there are members here that support varying candidates, and I truly believe that the Perry supporters don’t have a lock or a hold on Redstate. What does make the Perry supporters unique in many ways is that we are willing to tell everyone why we support Gov. Perry. We provide links, records, videos, and most importantly, we are willing to acknowledge Perry’s faults, or as pttx calls them, his warts. Some others just can’t do that.

          • changeforrickperry

That’s what I liked so much about RedState from the start. I could get all the information on Rick Perry that I needed to supplement my own hard-earned research, besides listening and learning from various conversations between supporters of other candidates.

just look up to the top of the page with all those Perry banners floating up there. Did you notice all of the Perry ads to the right promoting all those Perry T-shirts and bumper stickers? My RS screen has shrunk from all those Perry for President 2012 ads. Did you notice that? You and tngal might have finally broken the conspiracy theory about Perry that is taking place here at RS. Hey, I heard that Gov. Perry secretly paid all of the expenses for those at the RedState gathering.

Now, if only we could get EE to stop criticizing Perry on CNN, and in his horserace column.

          • nathanalbright

I think that would be a small group of people anyway that aren’t long for RedState anyway :B.

        • acat

First, it’s a lazy attempt to slur Erick et al without facts.

Second, it’s deliberately lazy because the Perry campaign have had to submit their first batch of financial records by now, and you show no indication whatsoever that you’ve found “the smoking line item”.

Red State has been called Rick-State, Cain-State, Tim-State (briefly), Romney-State (once or twice) Bachman-State, and of course Palin-State. That’s the nature of discussion, especially among the lazy.

          Mew

      • Hooah_Mac

It is pretty easy to look over your posting history and see that your only purpose here is to attack Governor Perry. I guess if that is what makes you happy, I couldn’t really care.

On the other hand, I want to make sure your frivolous accusations are not given weight by the unwary. Neither Redstate, nor the average poster here, is for sale. Most of us who post here have no actual connection to the site other than a general shared view of the world and the political landscape. Since many here share many of the same insights, it is natural that we would lean towards the same candidate(s). On the other hand, even among the moderators and front pagers of the site you will find a diversity of opinion on the primary.

        • Hooah_Mac

Invoking the Hinz rule today made me choke up a bit. I just realized it will soon be 2 years since we lost him on the day after Thanksgiving.

RIP David Hinz, who was one of the greatest among us. I pray for comfort to his family and all who knew him at this time.

          • Christine (Trelaina)

I’ll refrain from any further comment, as doing so may cause me to join him on the Pile.

          • jakeofalltrades

I thought we were talking a banned login, not a dead person. I apologize to any offended. Feel free to ban me – I feel very bad.

          • Hooah_Mac

However, I think banning you would be unnecessary – you didn’t know. As I stated, he has been absent for two years (actually from Redstate for over two years, but that is a whole different tale).

True story – David Hinz was immortalized for inventing the “rule” of ignoring trolls and it was called the Hinz rule while he was still with us and posting.

          • theredrider

But a little less meanness would improve the overall quality of the site. When people can get banned for a simple mistake or for supporting one of the less-popular candidates here, there is a serious “over-purging” problem.

Conversation is meaningless in an echo chamber.

          • Christine (Trelaina)

The post prompting the nasty response in question says “RIP” and offers prayers and comfort for his family. That’s how we talk about people who have been banned??

Good gracious, can we stop taking the “RedStaters are mean and kick people out” meme to the extremes? It’s like middle school for crying out loud…

Apology accepted, but I don’t agree for a split second that my comment was uncalled for.

          • Scope

and your apologies should be accepted by all. I remember when the news broke here on RS that Dave Hinz had been killed in a car accident, as Hooah said, the day after Thanksgiving. It was a very somber day for those that knew him. But, his name and memory live on here every time the Hinz rule is invoked.

of Rick Perry. I love the sheer red-meat passion he showed for taking the wave in ’10 – he was primed, locked and loaded, wasn’t he?!

  • redmymind

        • changeforrickperry

with joy and relief if this gets to be too much? I’m getting the word from my Twitter feed that Governor Perry hit the ball out of the park on O’Reilly’s show tonight. He called Obama a socialist and EVERYTHING. And now the good folks on Twitter are calling for a money bomb. I’m feeling just a tad overwhelmed today, with the Freedom Concert video, the Neil Cavuto interview, and now this. I’d better bring out the Kleenex along with the popcorn, because I may be a basketcase by the time this is all said and done.

Oh, Lordy, didn’t know he was on O’Reilly tonight!! I’ll catch the 10:00 rerun. Our guy is gonna catch that brass ring, change. I know it, I feel it. And I KNOW he is the one who can keep my precious granddaughter safe in the military. I KNOW it – I don’t trust anyone else with her precious young life. And her Dad, my son, is exactly like me!

Keep that Kleenex (I prefer Pufs – softer, actually) handy – tears of joy, relief and pride!

          • changeforrickperry

I’m feeling that same strange, new confidence as well. Maybe it was from watching Fox most of the afternoon–a very rare occurrence for me–but it just seemed to me that there was this drumbeat, “Perry’s coming back, Perry’s coming back.” I heard it after watching Sean Hannity’s interview with him from the other week, I heard it on Neil Cavuto when he was talking to Larry Sabato, and I heard it again tonight watching my Twitter feed in disbelief. If you weren’t feeling the same way I’d be worrying I was delusional–or, as we Southerners call it, “touched.”

Oh well. I don’t care if people think I’m delusional. There’s a quote from a Narnia book, where the wicked witch is trying to convince the heroes that the the Great Lion Aslan and the good, valiant land of Narnia don’t exist. But Puddleglum, one of the three heroes, responds defiantly:

“Suppose we have only dreamed, or made up, all those things–trees and grass and sun and moon and stars and Aslan himself. Suppose we have. Then all I can say is that, in that case, the made-up things seem a good deal more important than the real ones. Suppose this black pit of a kingdom of yours is the only world. Well, it strikes me as a pretty poor one. And that’s a funny thing, when you come to think of it. We’re just babies making up a game, if you’re right. But four babies playing a game can make a playworld which licks your real world hollow. That’s why I’m going to stand by the play-world. I’m on Aslan’s side even if there isn’t any Aslan to lead it. I’m going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn’t any Narnia.”

And of course Narnia is real; it is the witch’s black pit that isn’t the real thing. It was the witch who tried to make the heroes think a certain way, but the heroes clung to what was good and right and they TRIUMPH!

And now I think I’ll go watch the Freedom Concert video again.

merely a squatter in Texas since I’ve been here only 67 years, born in OK, but I got here as fast as I could! ;-)

Love your story about Narnia – good triumps over evil. Yes, it does. Always stick to your convictions when you are certain they are the right thing, then fight to the bitter end. You don’t have to waffle or wobble when you know in your head and in your heart that you are right. That is the magic connection – when your head and your heart (gut) are in complete agreement. Or that is my humble view and one by which I’ve always lived my life. Beware when the two are not connected – that means you travel the wrong path as you know it.

Gonna watch O’Reilly rerun pretty soon – can’t wait to see it!!

        • pttx333

have written is nothing compared to what you saw. Until bzip posted this today, I had never seen it before. Hallelujah he found it. I’ve now seen it many times and cry every time I do – it is the most uplifting, confidence-building, spiritual and hopeful message ever. There are those who say that “hes too much all about Texas, and he’s running for President of the U.S.A.” Yeah, well, what is your point, dudes and dudettes? He’s the Governor here with a proven record. I wouldn’t care if he was from Bangor, ME. He is THE ONE for me. It just so happens that he is a home-grown boy, so I should be able to pop my buttons.

I’m so thankful you found and watched this video, redmymind, and that you see what I see. The difference is that I’ve seen him in action for many years am still in awe. It is all a state of mind, red, but it also translates perfectly into a national state of mind!

Continue on with the “mindblown” state, red! Have a coke or DP (or 3) with those little icy crystals that I told you about. I’ve been indulging myself with quite a few recently – pretty soon I’ll have to be carted around in a wheelbarrow! ;-)

WHEN HE WINS….. We Texan’s will be honored Americans without the “don’t blame me I’m Texan” disclaimer….LOL… Have to be honest after the last 3 years another 4 years of an Obama/Romney administration might just drive me into the ranks of the Republic of Texas camp. I just dont know how much more of this ant-American and anti-capitalist crap I can take.

          • pttx333

so all could see. You betcha he’s a’gonna pull it off – the whole shooting’ match. I’ll be so happy to go to the polls on election day and not be holding my nose. In ’08, it was with a heavy heart and foggy brain that I voted for McCain – I knew we had lost it right up front, but I had to vote anyway. Then, I’ll swear it was a year or so, I was in a blue funk after watching that heathen with those faux columns, the low-class, trashy ways of the First Couple, the total lack of any protocol, pomp and circumstance – the very things that are near and dear to Americans – being trashed. And how anyone could vote for him – the one who refused to put his hand over his heart at various ceremonies – it was a sad, sad time for me. Then there is FLOTUS, Mitchell Antoinette as I call her, I could write several novels on that woman(?). Just suffice it to say that they deserve each other.

But now we have our guy, and I will proudly go to the polls. I may even try to locate some red/white/blue ditty boppers for my head! Yahoo!

          • redmymind

Thank you, honored and venerable friend, . . . I must confess that I too got very . . . “emotional” watching this great man thunder through the stage–being the one, powerful voice bringing to renewed vigor the powerful, timeless voices of our Founding Fathers!

The lit up “Hollywood” sign may just be seven miles up the road from where I live, but I can assure you that “Texas” is right here in this living room!

A speech like Governor Perry’s honoring the troops hits a particular note in my heart because I am reminded–as I should be–that I wouldn’t be here enjoying my freedom, my blessed way of life, . . . and my iced-up “coke a la pttx333″ but for the bravery and heroism of our armed forces, keeping us safe everyday!!!

          • pttx333

poignant for me in watching that video. My precious granddaughter graduated Army basic yesterday in SC, and this grandmother’s heart is full of fear yet bursting with pride. This is what she has chosen to do in life, so who am I to tell her how to live it? She is a beautiful, conservative, tiny little thing with the sweetest heart and soul – our family lovebug, as I call her. And, of course, there isn’t a biased bone in my body. ;-)

Her Dad, my son, flew to SC to be with her, and I think he cried all the way there and back. Now you have to envision this – he’s a Perry-type guy, 6’2″, licensed to carry (and does), macho, deer hunting guy who loves his family with everything in his soul. So envision her – a tiny, petite blonde with incredible green eyes who can be very prissy. On the other hand, she is also a young lady who goes hunting with her Dad and can field dress a deer in no time. When he called me yesterday, he was waiting for her to get her manicure/pedicure and hair all fixed up – BUT her feet had so many blisters from the 10-mile march they had to complete (with full gear) that the pedicurist was having big trouble. The irony of it all! So … to hear our guy say what he did in that video about our “boys and girls” in the military really hit home. Though I know that is how he feels, it is the passion with which he says it. And I know that under his watch, my granddaughter will be as safe as is possible. God love and keep them all. She is now in VA to train for her job – water specialist – so, hopefully, she won’t be in combat. Though, given the fact that she is one helluva a shot, thanks to her Dad, the enemy would be waving a white flag shortly.

And I am honored to be your friend, red. Thank you so much for your friendship! Enjoy that coke – they are super!

and I will relay the message to her. Those kids in the military need all the prayers and support they can get – they certainly are held in contempt by their CinC. I despise that man – he is of the devil.

You know, Miss Paula, I’m 71 years old so have pretty much seen and heard it all. This election is the most important of my lifetime to begin to rid us of the vile and disgusting evil that permeates every aspect of our lives. I rail against it and will vote my head and heart – I just pray we get it right. Our very lives, and the lives of those who follow us, depend on us. We MUST do the right thing. I pray for the day when the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t a freight train, but God’s light shining through it.

Thanks for your kindness and thoughtfulness, Paula. It means a lot to me.

If it weren’t for the U.S. troops who fought so valiantly during the Korean War, my parents would have never known a liberated South Korea, and my life would have looked quite a bit different today.

They speak of the great debt each of us carry due to the 15 trillion dollar deficit we have incurred as a nation. I, on the other hand, will always carry an extra, “personal” debt . . . to the troops who gave their lives for my freedom.

I will pray until my rosary beads wear out for the brave new generation of our nation’s pride, such as your granddaughter. May a President Perry truly be the president who, FOR A CHANGE, determines international policy with their maximum safety and success in mind! It’s about time we had a TRUE Commander-in-Chief who really cares about his men and women in uniform!

no other feeling like one has when the National Anthem is played, the flag waving, the troops marching, the Pledge of Allegiance by a crowd – even the 21-gun salute when I attended two military funerals during the ‘Nam war. My God, I thought I was going to collapse. That is how I was reared, and ditto for my son and daughter, grandchildren and the greats will be. We are a conservative bunch who always vote the “right” way. ;-)

I’m still weepy about my sweet little granddaughter – I hope it doesn’t continue during her entire service, but it might. The pride and fear all mixed up at once are a new feeling for me, but I honor those babies with all my heart.

You know, during WWII, I was just a mere baby, yet I remember vividly my grandmother walking the floor and crying because she didn’t know where either of her two sons were – one in the Army, one in the Navy. Both came home safely, thank God. I still have my ration book that Mom had saved all the years she lived, and it will be passed down from me.

Then came Korea and ‘Nam. My brother was in ‘Nam, and I can’t tell you how many telegrams I fired off to that stinking LBJ over his policies. My words were always “Fight this war to win it, or bring our boys HOME.” Of course, I never heard back. The very idea – our boys sitting there hungry with food rotting on a crude runway strip, the Cong shooting our boys if they dared to try to get the food – yet THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO FIRE A SHOT IN RETURN! Then they were spit on when they returned! We didn’t have that in Texas (probably would’ve been lynched on the courthouse square), but I saw it on the news all the time.

Yes, red, war is hell, but you fight it to win and then come home. I pray that my sweet baby girl will be safe, but it is in the Lord’s hands.

Thanks so much for the sweet, sweet words from you, the prayers and the blessings. And you must know that they are reciprocated in turn – ALWAYS!!!

but I will be away from my computer beginning tomorrow afternoon for 8-10 days or so. I’m driving to Chicago from Houston with a very dear friend to deliver a sweet dog, Rover, that belongs to her daughter. The daughter is a contract insurance adjuster who works all over the country, but she has been in Chicago for a while now and misses Rover. So, here we go in our white hats to deliver him to her. Not to mention, we’re going to have more FUN along the way and during our stay there!

So, if I don’t talk to you before I leave, have a Happy Thanksgiving with blessings to you and yours.

          • redmymind

I’ll keep our bunch here in line whilst you’re on your road trip delivering Rover! Hee, hee, hee!

Don’t forget to sample their deep dish pizza! . . . And a blessed and happy Thanksgiving to you and all who cross paths in your exciting journey!

          • pttx333

Have never been to Chicago so I’m sure we’ll be eating our way through the entire city. ;-) And a good pizza is so divine!

My huge problem today is gathering up proper clothing so as not to freeze to death. Folks there will probably think we are nuts, but it is gonna feel like 40 below to us coming from Houston. Though it can get very cold here, it is short-lived. And on the rare occasions that it snows, the entire city is shut down. Okay, I confess, we are a bunch of wimps!

Keep my seat warm for me! Blessings always, red!

          • Scope

Please drive safely, and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you are yours. We will all be looking forward to seeing you back in a week or so.

          • pttx333

And a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours also. Love this time of year!

Later, my friend … keep everyone in line around here! ;-)

          • 1bunny

and don’t get into too much trouble while having FUN : ) Your Perry “cheerleading” will be missed. while you are on your road trip. Maybe you can be an ambassador while on the road and spread the word on Perry. Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s not everyday that I get to chat with a real patriot like yourself. It truly runs in the family, I can tell.

I look at my six-year-old who’s now in first grade and very often wonder what kind of an America he will grow up in.

I was lucky enough to have traditional Korean parents who suffered greatly during the Korean War, understood America’s greatness, and drilled into our heads everday when we were children that our freedom came at a dear price.

Now, as a 43-year-old dad, I witness everyday this general anti-American, “globalist” sentiment subtly or not-so-subtly sprouting up in the numerous pockets of our society–certainly here in Los Angeles and amongst the growing number of youth who evidently think it’s “cool” or “trendy” to bash America and to uphold ideals most alien to this country’s founding principles and spirit. Just see the unpatriotic garbage that’s typically imprinted on their sleazy t-shirts!

            Whose fault is it?

I blame the elitist liberal media and those who ultimately shape their “enlightened” globalist ideology.

I blame the parents who perhaps harp enough on material success or some form of “self-fulfillment,” but who don’t lift a finger as far as teaching their kids about America’s greatness and exceptionalism and why they should not take their freedom for granted.

Then there are the selfless, patriotic Americans like your granddaughter who defy the odds and stand out like stars in the night and give all of us renewed hope of a future brighter yet!

I will do my duty to pass on the great treasure of American exceptionalism and patriotism to my son. At the same time, it irks me to no small measure to see young Korean kids and young adults bad-mouthing America–either completely oblivious to or dismissive of the great price their freedom came at.

My advice to them (translated in “official” Korean, of course): IF YOU CAN’T PUT YOUR HEART INTO THIS COUNTRY, GET YOUR **S OUT!!!

As far as our deployed troops, I’m with you, sister! If we’re not there to win handsdown or to advance/maintain America’s security and interests, we need to bring our most precious patriots back home!

As far as “rules of engagement” in foreign conflict? OUR way or no way at all! Take it or leave it! We don’t need to be tip-toing around getting our troops killed so as not to “offend” the sensibilities of those who either hate us anyway or have a checkered past as far as their leanings.

Lastly, as far as those filthy protesters exhibiting infantile rage over not getting free housing, free education, free health care, free food, and an endless supply of government jobs? I’ve got good news!

            GO TO NORTH KOREA!!! . . . They’ve got it all there . . . sort of.

          • pttx333

From your lips straight to God’s ears! Oh, yes, we are two peas in a pod. I have felt this way all of my years on this earth, and I AIN’T changin’ now – too hard-headed is what I am. ;-)

Please cherish these wonderful few years with your son. They go by all too soon. I would give anything to go back and relive those years with my son and daughter, when they were safe under my wing and watchful eye. I was there to hold them when they were sick – and to bust their butts when they acted out, as all kids will try to do! HA But they are precious years indeed. They are both good citizens, hard workers with a good work ethic, strong faith in God, very good parents and very patriotic/conservative. But I was blessed in the fact that when I was bringing them up, the world wasn’t quite as horrible as it is today. Plus, Texas used to be about 10 years behind the rest of the nation when it came to the hippie stuff and riots. We never had those here.

Good for your parents who taught you to have the values that you have today. Babies aren’t born with knowledge, they are taught by their parents. Oh, on a side note here – do you know what I call Kim Jong Il? My name for him (the monster) is Yu Make Me Il … how’s that?

Yep, we can thank our troops for everything. But the disrespect shown them by our wimp-in-chief is unforgivable to me. He could apologize till the cows come home, and I would still spit on him!

Keep on keepin’ on, red – and squeeze that baby boy all you can. One day he will be on his own – and the hardest thing of all is to be the parent of adult children. HA

            God bless you all!

          • redmymind

Have lots and lots of fun and tell us about it when you get back! We’re all gonna take turns here keepin’ your seat warm! Three cheers to you my friend!!!

    • marybeth7

This is the Rick Perry that all of his supporters know and love. This is the Rick Perry we have been trying to get out there. It does need to go viral Paula, This my friends, is the real Rick Perry!

  • pttx333

video earlier in the day and jumped for joy that bzip had found it. THAT is Rick Perry. The yell leader/cheerleader requires a certain personality for the job. I was a cheerleader about a thousand years ago and could to this very day talk to a stump without flinching.

My take on Perry’s “freeze” and his performance at the first debate was that he went expecting to actually debate – big mistake. He was immediately pummeled by the other candidates, and I believe he was astonished. He’s quite the gentleman, in case anyone is wondering, which proves that a man can be a gentleman while being firm in his convictions – and firm he is, never wavering.

Thanks for your diaries, Paula. They serve as excellent tutorials for anyone with an open mind.

  • jakeofalltrades

Not that I have a say in that (nor should I :) )

If we want to defeat Obamneycare, people need to see this.

  • greyeagle

Yes this is the Rick Perry my spouse and I know and love. He is a true patriot and really goes all out for the military. I wish there was someway to get this on Youtube for all to see.

  • windwaker24

This Rick Perry can win an election. This Rick Perry can rip Obama and the Democrats to shreds! He needs to show up FAST!

  • pttx333

He’s here, he’s never been anything different. Year after year, he is the same. And, yes, he is the one who can and will dismantle all of the unsavory goings-on inside the beltway to the extent that he can. What you have seen in this video IS Rick Perry – the same one I have voted for many times over, the one in whom I place my trust.

    • windwaker24

Why doesn’t this Rick Perry show up at the debates? He acts so nervous and reserved. I looked at his “uproot” speech and it was nothing like this. I was almost depressing. If he would have given his speech like the way he did in the video, he wouldn’t be in single digits right now. He needs to fire up the base QUICKLY! Newt is looking like he going to be the nominee. But he will not beat Obama, especially since Obama is planning to campaign against Congress. Newt is the poster child of everything that is wrong with Congress.

      • pttx333

        (1) in the first debate, he wasn’t anywhere near recovered from his back surgery (and I dare say he still isn’t all the way there); (2) he is by nature very much a gentleman in the cowboy/Southern tradition who went to the debate(s) fully expecting it to be a true debate – not a function where every rotten tomato around was thrown at him by the other candidates and the mods – he was absolutely shocked, IMHO; (2) I believe the “brain freeze” occurred when Ron Paul was waving his fingers at him, then Romney joined in – he was distracted by them. Believe me, Perry didn’t forget a thing – he just doesn’t – he was distracted, intentionally, by the others.

I wouldn’t bet the farm on Newt being the nominee. He has more baggage than Delta Airlines, and none of it very pretty. He is the rock star of the moment – the anti-Romney of the moment.

There may be some swings back and forth, but Perry will be the last one standing tall. There are many things in the wind now to get him the good exposure he needs. Everyone needs to know the man from Texas that we have known and kept in office for many years. It isn’t by accident that he is a 3rd-term governor.

Keep the faith, windwaker. It will all come out in the wash, as they say. The polls now mean nothing – and some are downright dishonest. I’ve read that there is about a two-week lag time on the polls, so remember that.

        • lucasblack

If Ron Paul waving his fingers at him is all it takes to cause Rick Perry’s brain to freeze up, that does not fill me with any amount of confidence. As for the claim that Paul intentionally distracted him; may I remind you that he was addressing his comment to Paul, it’s not like he just randomly jumped in there (though Romney did). All this whining by Perry supporters (and his wife!) that they are ‘picking on him’ and how shocked they are by this…I thought Perry was the tough guy who shoots at coyotes while jogging. Compare that to Newt’s ‘bring it on’ response to the vetting and you’ll see who the real stud in the race is.

          • tjms

for it. So I guess your comparison would have to be of Newt and whoever “Perry supporters” that are.

          • lucasblack

The poster above was the one who suggested that Perry was “absolutely shocked” to find himself attacked in the debate. I never claimed that Perry blamed anybody, but the poster also claimed that Perry was “intentionally distracted”. And there is no question that his wife came out and whined that he was being attacked by other campaigns because he was a Christian – a ridiculous (and rather offensive) comment from where I sit.

          • gekster

who would you like for Perrys VP.

Because if you are the best they’ve got to dis Perry, then he is in good shape.

          • lucasblack

Rubio is my choice for VP with anyone except Bachmann – were she to somehow get the nomination, she’d need an elder statesman type for balance. Lugar would be my choice (especially if that would mean he wouldn’t be running for re-elect in Indiana).
The one exciting thing for me about a Perry/Rubio ticket is that I think it could do very well with Latino Americans. I consider Perry’s ability to reach those voters the best arrow in his quiver. Had he been a better candidate, I would likely be a supporter by now, but he’s totally put me off.

          • tjms

that complained. And on Mrs. Perry, the Gov. came out and said that family takes things harder. He still did not complain.

          • lucasblack

You are indeed correct. However, I never suggested that Perry himself did complain, only some supporters and his wife. I’ll give him a pass on the wife; no one votes for a spouse, but I also don’t want her talking at the convention like Mrs. Heinz-Kerry demanded back in 2004,

          • tjms

low profile here in TX. I actually had never even seen her until he started running for president.

          • sunshinek67

if Gingrich is still even in the race~

          • lucasblack

I wouldn’t be surprised if the race is radically different in two months – actually, probably will be. I don’t rule Perry out, though clearly he’s down. And Newt doing well is far from a given.

          • sunshinek67

Newt’s rise is in conjunction with the American Political Idol Contest where all one needs to do is get on stage and sound smart, regardless of whether or not what is said is actual truth, or if plagued by a dinosaur record of scandals, both professional and personal. All that matters in this election cycle is who can stand on a stage next to Obama and debate. Perry’s issue can be fixed. Newt’s cannot be undone. It is what it is. Newt will have a hard time selling evangelicals and women. Probably appeals to independent though.

          • lucasblack

I don’t think Newt can win the nomination if he can’t get primary voters to forgive (or at least disregard) his baggage. If he can do that with the primary voters, then I feel he can do it in the general. If he can’t do it in the primary, then it’s a moot point.
btw, are you making a clever pun talking about dinosaurs given Newt’s fascination with them?

          • sunshinek67

he spent an entire afternoon at the dinosaur exhibit in Chicago last month. Now, a serious campaign would be in Iowa, or NH, or South Carolina? Florida? Not Newt, he’s looking at dinosaurs.

          • lucasblack

I agree that he’s got to stop looking at dinosaurs now. I had held back from donating to his campaign because for a while there I did not see a schedule that convinced me that he was entirely serious and I really don’t care to finance his and Calista’s book tours, but in the last couple of weeks there has been a dramatic shift and I have started donating to the campaign.

          • sunshinek67

kind of pairs up nicely with his dinosaur fascination~

          • lucasblack

Yea, it does make for an obvious joke which I am sure will get used by many people if he’s the nominee.

          • bzip

I don’t think anyone was “seriously” blaming Paul for Perry’s freeze. I never did. I read a few examples of it though and I took it as a comedy response, as a joke.

You have to admit, Paul with his hands up in a monster type fashion when Perry froze was kind of funny. :-) . What was that line again something about people have to take a joke or something like that.

          • sunshinek67

Couple with his crazy zany rhetoric, what the heck is a guy to do but experience a profound memory lapse~

          • lucasblack

I think the poser above was serious about blaming others for Perry’s brain freeze, but, no, I don’t think many other people have come up with that one before. Ron Paul did look like he was making a weird gesture, I’ll grant you that. :)

          • sunshinek67

If only you would see that your anti-Perry rhetoric is not working, at all, to further your cause~

          • tjms

Newt as a “stud”. Sorry but just can’t get that picture in my head. I really wish he would have used different terminology.

          • sunshinek67

no. That is absurd. Explains though, his 3 marriages~

          • lucasblack

Newt’s been owning Dems since, well, since Rick Perry actually was one.

          • sunshinek67

Don’t get me wrong, I will vote for him (after a daylong meditation). Not the GOP’s best~

          • windwaker24

He wasn’t able to “own” Bill Clinton and ended up looking like a fool. Just sayin’…

          • lucasblack

I was watching returns come in on Nov 8th, 1994. Newt’s been a stud in my mind since that date.

          • sunshinek67

            :/

          • lucasblack

Feel the studdage! All the ladies love ‘em some Newt!

Just the picture running in my head. Please stop!!!!!

          • windwaker24

            You’re cracking me up!

          • windwaker24

Now, Perry on the other hand (especially in the video above)… ;)

          • lucasblack

Male cheerleader does not exactly scream ‘stud’ (though the coyote-shooting does). That video displays a particularly unfortunate still, though – with his mouth in a very contorted pose.

          • romansdaughter

For an older man, Rick Perry is much more what I consider a stud than Newt even 20 years ago.

          • changeforrickperry

But Perry owns Newt as far as good-lookin’ goes. End of story ;)

  • nathanalbright

…that is a fierce, red-blooded American. I must say, that’s impressive. I’m sure that this Rick Perry would show up in the general election. This definitely needs to go viral to show Republicans what he’s all about.

    • pttx333

and who he has always been. No different, down through the years, he’s the same guy.

So glad you got the chance to view this video. Even I had never seen it until today. Have watched it numerous times and can’t get through it without the tears flowing from joy and relief. What a Thanksgiving!

      • http://boldcolor.blogspot.com/ Paula

and gave that…um…quirky speech in New Hampshire? Doesn’t even seem like the same person. I realize the venues and audiences were completely different, but sheesh! Night and day and it could make the difference between getting the nomination or not. The stakes are very high here.

        • pttx333

in NH and, to me, he was saying/behaving the same as the scores of Southern ministers that I have heard. It would probably depend on where you are from and to what religion you belong to understand. It is nothing foreign to me, I’ve heard it many, many times during my lifetime and from men of the cloth in my own family (Baptist) along with others who are not.

I would guess it is a situation of familiarity, Paula. And as bewildered as was I the first time I attended Catholic mass. It is no more than that. He was not drunk, he was not high, he was on a natural high speaking in a natural habitat for him. That’s it.

          • http://boldcolor.blogspot.com/ Paula

I am very familiar with the vernacular and behavior expected in those circles. I realize that the Hannity rally speech would be totally inappropriate in that situation. I guess there was just an oddness to it – as if he were channeling Tim Hawkins – that you just can’t get away with if you’re running for president. And that’s where the discipline will come in. He’s going to have to reel that in so he does’t frighten off the buttoned-down Presbyterians.

          • nathanalbright

….I think that the various speeches we have seen from Gov. Perry demonstrate that he has some awareness of different modes of speaking in different environments. We have self-deprecating (but fairly light, as far as talking points go) speeches to gently poke fun of himself on Letterman, passionate partisanship on the stump, and genuine (and passionate) religious beliefs in front of a religious audience. What makes you think that he is going to talk to buttoned-down Presbyterians like a Southern Baptist preacher? Rather, he will try to speak to them from their own ground, as any wise speaker does, to the best of his abilities.

          • http://boldcolor.blogspot.com/ Paula

We’ve all mocked Hillary for her pathetic fake black accent in speeches and have rolled our eyes when Obama did it as well.

I’m not saying Perry has crossed that line, but it’s fair to ask at this point in time who the real Rick Perry is. Many of his defenders here are saying it’s the firebrand in the video above. But then we have the guy who has shown up as the awkward, defensive presence in the GOP debates. People are skittish about supporting him because they/we are not confident we know who we’d be getting.

          • nathanalbright

…and I don’t think that Gov. Perry would try to affect the tone of a Presbyterian when he is not, but rather that he would know when to leave the firebrand antics away. For example, Perry has not shown himself a firebrand against the other candidates in the Republican field, largely because (and I agree with him) that however mistaken they may be they are not the real enemy. He saves his real hostility for those who are genuine worldview enemies. On the contrary, he acts more gallant and restrained when dealing with those who are merely temporary rivals. Is that hard to understand?

          • pttx333

He actually sat there and called b.o. a socialist! O’Reilly was aghast – LOL. He questioned that b.o. was such, and Perry reiterated what he had just said. He was absolutely on the mark – never missed a beat.

          • nathanalbright

….because there isn’t a single English-speaking channel on television in the part of the world where I live. I get all of my news online.

          • pttx333

receive satellite or something – silly me. Don’t know if the clip is on youtube or Fox News yet, but it will be. And it certainly will hit RS shortly. We have such sweet fellow posters who stay on top of posting the latest for us.

Just trust me that it was good. O’Reilly tried to “educate” Perry that, no, socialism involves the state taking away your belongings, blah blah. Perry replied (paraphrasing) “Yes he is a socialist. Think of of what the government does with the estate tax. When the Lord calls you home, the government takes your house.” O’Reilly can be such a pompous a$$ and tends to think he is smarter than anyone. Oh, well, that is his problem.

          • nathanalbright

…he really does need to learn. Our society is a lot more socialist than one often realizes. Such socialism even extends well into our sporting realm, something that as a pretty competitive person I greatly dislike, and have commented about in my own personal blogging :B.

          • http://boldcolor.blogspot.com/ Paula

During the interview O’Reilly tried to define Socialism as the state confiscating private property for redistribution. Perry astutely countered that that was exactly what happened with the death tax. O’Reilly attempted a weak rebuttal about it not being the same since they’re dead, but Perry had won the point.

That said, the death tax isn’t a policy Obama implemented, so it’s not the best example to use if you want to call him a Socialist, but it was a fun exchange and Perry definitely held his own with O’Reilly and it seemed to be a fun exchange rather than a contentious one as it could have been.

phone rang before it was done, so I was left with the impression that O’Reilly was being his usual self. Good for him that he acquiesced – that doesn’t happen a lot.

Oh, no, b.o. did not implement the tax – just carries it on – but is in the process of taking as much as he can squeeze out of us and our children to redistribute to his buds. Phooey on those who have continued it down through time.

Thanks for the ending to my pathetic story to nathan. His being in Thailand is an issue in that I know that he doesn’t have a lot of access to the latest.

Thanks for all you do, Paula.

this is not news. Just hasn’t been talked about in a while~

          • pttx333

heard. There isn’t the first thing inauthentic about him. Comparing Hillary, there isn’t an authentic bone in her body – that is well-documented and observed by all those who have the ability to see.

So, Miss Paula, that is Perry is a nutshell. I can only attest to the facts that I know, and I do know Rick Perry. I’ve never met him personally, but have met Anita and visited with her a few minutes. She is the loveliest, most gracious lady you will ever meet – one who listens as well as asks questions. The pair of them would do us proud at 1600.

          • cheetah2

I don’t think we were seeing the real him at the start.

When he started running I think the whole change from Texas where he is of course comfortable and at home and he knows the issues inside out, to the national stage was a steep climb for him. In his earlier interviews and the debates I thought he looked nervous. In one of them I saw him visibly relax right at the end and begin to speak with greater animation.

I think he is naturally a very enthusiast person especially when discussing things he is passionate about. We are watching him blossom before our eyes on the national stage. It’s astonishing how fast he’s growing. It’s only 3 months into his campaign and I believe he now has got his legs under him.

I sure hope and pray he gets a second chance at this for the sake of our country. He has an ambitious plan and he may not accomplish all he wants to, but he will do our country a world of good if he is elected.

          • pttx333

of no. It isn’t as if he’s never been before huge crowds before – he has traveled the world, is the chair of the Governor’s Committee (don’t know the proper title), plus his type of personality just naturally fits in at either a goat ropin’ or a State Dinner. And that isn’t something that can be taught to feel in a natural way – it is something you either are or you aren’t, without lessons – but that is just me.

I do think it had to do with his recent back surgery early July – so he had been out of surgery a mere 6 weeks when he announced. That is NOT enough time to heal, certainly not from the type surgery he had. Then, I’m told there are terrible back spasms for a long time after and that you should not stand for long periods for many months. And he did that! I’m sure he was taking some type of muscle relaxer to help him endure. They sure can mellow you out!

But that is just me and my take on it, cheetah. Personally, I don’t think he’s ever met a stranger. The debates’ live audiences are tiny compared to what he is used to seeing.

          • cheetah2

probably a major one. It amazes me that he took this on so soon.

          • pttx333

became an absolute necessity because of major problems with pain, etc., that he would have been having. And that is what took him so long to announce. Either do it at that time, or delay it and run for office and heaven only knows when he would have been able to clear off a schedule for having the surgery, and maybe not even run for office – not a lot of clear choices there. That is what I see. I can’t even imagine the pain he endured on those stages – it must have been brutal.

          • avagreen

All people have different aspects of their personality that they present at different times, depending upon the circumstances.
Unless he’s somehow channeled different personalities at times, these are ALL a part of Perry.

In fact, the more intelligent, more versatile and the more healthy a personality is, the more varied parts they will have at their disposal to call upon at different times. Not stuck in one phase all the time.

Surely, you don’t have just one personna that you exhibit all the time? You don’t talk to your husband or lover in the same manner that you do your parents?

          • pttx333

He knows exactly which crowd he is speaking to and adjusts accordingly. He’s been a rally-round-the-flag type all his life (inborn) and does it well. He’s Methodist, lifelong, brought up in a little church in Paint Creek where his parents still attend services. Then you add in the country feel, the Texan feel, the Southern feel, and it is all quite normal. The Perry in the video you posted is Perry the “damn the torpedoes” Governor that we know.

Thanks for your comment – love the buttoned-down Presbyterians, even if they are rather reserved. Us Baptists are not, or not the ones that I know! My paternal grandmother was a First Christian Church devotee, and there was no person on the planet more reserved than was she. Needless to say, I really believe she thought me to be a barbarian. Oh, well. ;-)

          • circlegranch

Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love and the tie that can bind our nation together again. Everywhere we look, this great nation is coming apart at the seams and we need leadership that sees it too and has the courage to stand up and fight back.

          • pttx333

You round up some folks so we can have a choir to sing that beautiful old hymn. Great ideas you have! So … we’re on then … you got it!

          • nathanalbright

….I really love that hymn. There’s no need for sectarian bias, after all. I’d even go for “Faith Of Our Fathers” for a good plug for our founding fathers if it were a Catholic event. No need to be prejudiced.

          • pttx333

the planet that I would ever do would be to argue religion. Good grief – talk about pointless and silly! There’s nothing to argue about anyway. I figure St. Peter is not going to stand at the pearly gates and ask each person just what denomination they were on earth. Nope, not even on my radar. I’ve attended many different churches and learn something each time I do.

I know you are very young (though you think you aren’t), but have you ever heard of Leo Buscaglia? He was a professor at USC, a motivational speaker and author, and I just adored him. He was the most positive man, and his passing was a great loss to me.

          • nathanalbright

Though there are plenty of illustrious USC professors I never got to hear about it because I was never around those departments.

going gung ho in the early 80′s, had a show on PBS, was a prolific writer and just made you feel good about yourself and everyone around you. He was quite a guy … very positive, upbeat and had delved extensively in the different religions in the world – living with Tibetan monks at one point. A very interesting man was he.

          • nathanalbright

…had he had a PBS show in the early 1990′s I might have remembered him, but in the early 1980′s I wasn’t exactly very conscious of much in the world :B.

Yeah, we are coming apart at the seams, circle. But, you know what? With enough voices and votes, we can turn this sluggish, creaky ship around. And I’ll betcha if we talk about it long enough, the two of us might even figure out just exactly WHO we can recruit to stand up and fight back. Wonder where we should begin. Right? ;-)

sponsored by the Family Leadershp Forum. Frank Luntz is the main moderator for the event being held at the First Federated Church in Des Moines. Its not televised by we want watch a livestream of it at www.CitizenLink.com or at www.thefamilyleaders.com you can download a list of radio stations carrying it or livestreaming it.

This is not a debate but rather a conversation with the candidates about family values and for a glimpse into their hearts. It starts at 4 pm Central Time. It’s a sold-out event and Luntz promises its going to be something unlike we’ve ever seen. Each candidate gets equal time to talk. Participants include Perry, Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Gingrich. Not sure about others.

          • nathanalbright

…but I hope it gets saved for viewing tomorrow morning when I get up.

heads up. I’ll be at my friends’ house, and we’re going to be very busy preparing for our driving trip to Chicago (leaving early tomorrow a.m.). We are delivering her daughter’s dog, Rover, to her – she misses him so. So I’ll be out of the loop for 8-10 days, and I’m sure I’ll go into major withdrawal immediately. But it should be a lot of fun.

I’ll take this opportunity to wish you, and everyone, a very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving as you celebrate with your loved ones. I won’t be on the ‘puter much longer, because I’ve got to get rollin’. ;-)

          with Proverbs 15:13: A merry heart….
He was mimicking Ron Paul on Gold.

I am secular, and I understood what he was doing when I watched the entire 25 minutes.

anyway, Perry got slammed for his genuine joy at the end when he was given NH “liquid gold” what we in New England call maple syrup, and it is really expensive for the real stiff.

My immediate thought was that Romney, in same situation, would have to consult a poll to decide whether maple syrup from NH is better than maple syrup fromMassachusetts, and the easy decision would be to avoid maple syrup from Vermont because it is Socialist.

Perry is a natural for New Hampshire, which is also a swing state in th general. they really do live by their motto: Live Free or Die. I drive up there to shop (lower taxes), and you can feel the air change as soon as you cross the Massachusetts border. Too bad he missed a chance to go deer hunting in NH when the October 29 freak blizzard disrupted everything.

Perry’s Col. Bud Day pheasant hunt in Iowa was splendid, especially the interviews before the hunt started. Only place I saw those videos was at Mark Halperin’s TIME blog.

The Perry campaign has a Youtube channel, but they seem to not be able to keep up with their cyber-space functions.

          • pttx333

enlightening us with the glad tidings from your section of America. I read over and over the where naysayers pontificate with “he’s a nobody in NH” “Perry who?” ad nauseum. I would have been giggling also if someone had given me some of that heavenly syrup – it is kissed by the angels.

You are correct in what you say regarding Romney. James Carville (yes, THAT James Carville) recently referred to him as a serial windsock. I was cheering when he said that – and I NEVER agree with Carville. But he hit that straight on the nail.

I’m certain that Perry would have loved to go deer hunting there. He is quite the sportsman, and I’m sure you have heard the coyote story. A lot of folks in the nation were horrified, but we just thought it was normal – still do. And I’ve yet to see or even hear about those pheasant hunt videos. Good grief!

I don’t know if you have seen this article from the liberal Dallas newspaper, but in fact it is quite fair except for two things: (1) it refers to the “Perry family hunting lodge” – laughable, they had a deer lease; (2) the author couldn’t resist referring yet again to that stupid ROCK! Other than that you will fall in love with Perry’s parents – I just want to pinch their cheeks, God love ‘em.

….that his cheerleading experience as a yell leader seems to be coming through. Here’s a man who knows when he is speaking to like-minded people, throwing statistics about the weather, motivating people to vote for and support friends without any sort of prejudice, but with a clear idea of who one’s real enemies are.

        • pttx333

the one to lead the crowd, cheer them up, light their fire and get the ball rolling toward victory. That is what cheerleaders/yell leaders do – with confidence, good cheer/humor and positive vibes. And having been one many years ago, I personally know that it carries through for the rest of your life in all situations.

          • nathanalbright

….but yes, I can understand how it would have a dramatic effect on the way you speak for the rest of your life.

          • pttx333

hurtful if I can’t cheer up someone around me – I feel as if I have failed somehow. My head knows that you just can’t get some folks motivated, but that doesn’t help my feelings a lot. ;-)

          • nathanalbright

…so it does make a lot of sense. Occupational hazard, I suppose.

          • jakeofalltrades

I was warned when moving to California not to let anyone know I was not a Democrat. And because of my mannerisms and style, they just assumed I was one of them. I never did anything to shake them from their misconceptions (friends excepted).

so loud the opposing team on the field can not hear the play.

I wonder if it is a legacy of the Rebel yell that scared the Yankee soldiers in the first two years of the Civil War…

Not the same as a cheerleader as most of us know it..

also, Aggie Yell Leaders are elected by the students.

          • pttx333

elects the yell leaders should tell one and all the amazing appeal that Perry has. He is just that kind of guy – all-around American who loves this country. A&M is a huge school but many seem to poo-poo it as just another hick Texas school. No, not true – it is not easy to get into A&M and even harder to remain there. It is not a snap, not by any means. A degree from there will get into any door anywhere.

Funny thing with cheerleading is that it is a goal to fire up the crowd, cheer on the team AND to create as much noise as possible so the opposing team cannot hear the plays – exactly as you stated. And probably is carried over as a form of the Rebel yell.

When I was a cheerleader, we were elected by the student body after strenous try-outs – it was a big deal making posters and “campaigning.” It was a lot of fun. And in every other high school that I heard of in Texas, the elections were the same. I’m not sure how it goes in other states – maybe it is just a Texas quirk or something, just am not sure.

Thank you so much, lizzie, for your very informative posts. They are most appreciated! Hope everyone reads them. You should create a diary with all of your views – I promise to recommend it! ;-)

Jon Huntsman’s daughters were just on Greta and when asked which of the other candidates was friendliest backstage, all 3 said, without hesitation, “Rick Perry.” They said he was warm, friendly, and personable, having known him since the time their father was governor.

Very laid back, takes it all in stride. I don’t see a big ego there.

          • pttx333

Seems Newt’s ego is starting to appear as well….

Newt – It comes down to Mitt and me

          • pttx333

He’s in for a huge shock, though, that should deflate his ego a tad. Well, maybe – he is so arrogant that he might not “get it.” He will not be the nominee – the long knives are out already, and he has baggage piled upon baggage and there will be more. Funny thing, he always says that he has repented for his wicked ways, and that is fine, but just because you repent does not mean that there are no consequences. All decisions come with consequences – depends on what your decision is for whether your consequences will be good or bad.

Okay, so Newt is gone, so who does that leave standing? Perry and Mittens. No way is Mitt gonna win – he’s never risen above 25% in any poll – so I suppose he’ll be a serial candidate just like dear old insane Ron Paul. Lord, will he never go away?

So, TA DA – last man standing is PERRY!

on several occasions at conferences related to my employment when I served on the Board of Directors, and on one occasion the Board was invited to meet with him at the mansion (pre-fire). We met with him in the downstairs drawing room, surrounded by historical relics of Texas and discussed both business and pleasure for over an hour. I can assure you that Governor Perry has his finger on the pulse of what is going on around him; he is knowledgeable, very conversant, personalble, and can explain his positions thoroughly with no notes or teleprompters. I have been greatly impressed with him throughout his career and have always supported him but after my personal meeting with him, he has made a lifelong devoted supporter.

        Go Gov.!

        • pttx333

I have voted for him every time he has run for office – there wasn’t even a thought as to anyone else, because I knew he was the proper choice. He’s a true winner and will pull this out of the hat – I just know it. You know as well as do I what he has been through, particularly the last election for governor. KBH, Rove, Bill White, Medina, et al., threw everything at him but the kitchen sink, yet he stood tall in the end.

Haven’t heard a thing about Bill White since then, and KBH had better be glad that she’s not running again. There is no way in the world she could win a race for dog catcher after her sorry dealings in the governor’s race. Oh, by the way – heard anything more about Sanchez of Sanchez Oil Co.? I haven’t – he thought he could buy the office …. well, not so much. HA

As many of you know and pointed out – On the Bill O’Reilly show last night Perry said Obama has clear socialist policies. Perry was very clear and didn’t back down from that, which Perry is correct.

You can find major news outlets referencing this statement of Perry’s when he was on O’Reilly’s show last night. What is odd is Fox doesn’t seem t mention it.

PS I love this video of Perry (the cover video Hannity concert). It is so refreshing and inspiring.

Perry is (maybe) taking the advice I gave to John McCain in 2008–say something every day that get’s you coverage on the MSM evening news. Call Obama liar, not just that he’s “mistaken.” Point out how wrong he is about one specific “fact” every day. McCain didn’t do it, and the news essentially ignored whatever his message was.

Now that Obama has been in office for three years, it’s clear that he’s at the very least “socialistic,” and so are his policies. By saying so, Perry is getting coverage that he couldn’t buy. As long as what he says is properly founded, even negative reporting on it helps him.

I posted this in other places on Redstate, so forgive me if you’ve already seen it but I felt it was important.

For those who mentioned they want to write editors, in 2007 I found a very cool feature on a conservative website I read a lot. Townhall.com

You do have to register as you have to login to be able to write editors but it’s free and so easy to use. You can reach numerous newspapers with a single letter. You can write one letter and then select the newspapers you want to send that letter to. It lists all the newspaper & publication in your zip code for both regional and local papers. Before you submit your letter, copy and paste it into notepad or whatever as you can only select several newspapers at a time. Then paste your letter back in and select the other papers to send it to.

But the BEST part is to the left there is the wording “not your newspapers? Click here” link. Click it and you can put in any zip code you want. Let’s say you want to send it to Iowa, Google a zipcode like Des Moines and put that in Townhall, paste your letter (or write a different one for Iowans) select the newspapers and submit.

Here’s the direct link to write editors: http://townhall.com/actioncenter/writeeditors.aspx

I used this a lot in the 2008 election. For example, to tell coal mining states and towns about Obama’s comments on shutting down coal mines which broke right before the elections in West Virginia, I googled coal mining towns in West Virginia (and other states), googled their zip codes and sent letters to them.
