What’s At Stake In Illinois In 2010

My good friend Dan Sugrue explains what is at stake in the 2010 elections in Illinois:

What other districts’ legislators do affects all of us. What other states’ legislatures do affects all of us. Dan is a good conservative family man with a real chance to unseat a liberal Democrat. Please help him out with your contribution today!

Rep. Melissa Bean’s Intimidation Tactics

At a meeting she was hosting last week at Round Lake library, Democrat U.S.Rep. Melissa Bean demonstrates a typically Democrat way of discouraging unfavorable questions (H/T: Gateway Pundit via Steve Stevelic):

I’m alarmed that this happened in the library that my wife and kids go to. That guy is in charge of security for the library. Maybe we’ll have to go to Grayslake instead.

This is Chicago-style thuggery come to Lake County. See how Bean, and the fellow from the Treasury Dept., stand and smile as that goon towers over that woman. These people are not threatening, they are remaining in their seats, and they are exercising their right to seek answers from their representative. And what’s the response? Threats of physical violence.

This is what the left does when it’s in power.

Eagle Forum of Illinois Endorses Paul Mitchell for State House Seat

January 13, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gurnee-IL: Eagle Forum of Illinois yesterday announced its endorsement of businessman Paul Mitchell in his race for nomination to the Illinois House in the 62nd District. “I am thrilled to receive Eagle Forum’s endorsement,” said Mitchell this morning. “The Eagle Forum is not only a powerful force in Illinois, but across our nation in the effort to foster conservative values in government,” Mitchell said. “I’m honored to receive this endorsement and proud to stand with the Forum in its efforts to strengthen families, fight for life, and protect our freedoms.”

In addition to Eagle Forum, Mitchell’s endorsements include Tax Accountability (the political arm of the National Taxpayers Union of Illinois), Illinois Conservatives, the Illinois Federation for Right to Life PAC, the Illinois Center Right Coalition, and numerous others.

Eagle Forum, a national organization of citizen-volunteers, participates in the public policymaking process. The Illinois division is today headed by former Illinois State Rep. Penny Pullen. Eagle Forum was originally founded and led by the conservative icon and legend, Phyllis Schlafly, now of St. Louis, previously of Alton, Illinois.

“Various Eagle Forum leaders in our state have examined the credentials and positions of the candidates seeking this nomination,” said Miss Pullen. “This was an easy choice. Paul Mitchell is challenging one of those incumbents who need to leave office. Her embrace of the radical Freedom of Choice Act just a year ago to invalidate every restriction Illinois has enacted to curb abortion casts doubt on her judgment and the principles she uses to make decisions about legislation affecting our families. Paul Mitchell is an outstanding candidate who can be counted on by families in the 62nd District to champion their interests. We salute his outspoken advocacy of the right to life and for protecting parental rights.

“Voters can trust Paul Mitchell, and we wish him well in the Feb. 2 GOP primary.”

Momentum builds as Mitchell campaign announces more endorsements

Gurnee, IL – Republican State Representative candidate Paul Mitchell today announced that his candidacy received several additional group and individual endorsements.

* Former State Representative Penny Pullen says she is “honored” to endorse Mitchell, not only for his solidly pro-life and pro-life family positions, but for his fiscally conservative stance. Pullen, who served in the General Assembly from 1977 to 1993, including as a member of the House GOP Leadership from 1983 onward, served as Republican National Committeewoman from Illinois from 1984 to 1988, and currently serves as president of the Republican Women of Wheeling Township and of the Eagle Forum of Illinois.

* Justice Barbara Gilleran Johnson endorses Mitchell’s candidacy because of his desire to work for laws that will protect the weakest and most vulnerable in our society. Justice Gilleran Johnson is a retired Justice of the Illinois Second District Appellate Court, who served as both an assistant attorney general assigned as Chief of the Crime Victims Compensation Division and as an assistant state’s attorney of Lake County assigned as Chief of the Juvenile Division. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Judges Association.

These endorsements are made in their personal capacities, and are not representative of the views of any of the organizations with which they are associated.

* In addition, Mitchell is endorsed by the Illinois Republican Assembly, an affiliate of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies. “We endorse Paul Mitchell in the IL62 House race against the GOP incumbent. Mitchell is pro-life, pro-family, and a foe of socialism,” said the group in a statement.

* Also endorsing Mitchell is the Lake County Tea Party organization: “Paul Mitchell is the best candidate for State Representative in the 62nd District. We wholeheartedly support his campaign and beliefs. He is Pro-Life, Pro-Family, Pro-Individual, and Pro-Freedom. He supports the Republican platform and does not run away from him it like his opponent. He understands the state has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.”

These endorsements are added to an impressive list of endorsements for the political newcomer, who was already endorsed by Tax Accountability, the political arm of the National Taxpayers’ Union of Illinois; as well as Illinois Conservatives; the 912 Candidates organization; the Illinois Federation for Right to Life; and seventeen other Republican leaders in Lake County and northern Illinois. Mitchell has also received the highest possible ratings from Illinois Citizens for Life, and the Illinois Family Institute.

“I’m truly honored at the faith being placed in me by Rep. Pullen, Justice Gilleran Johnson, and the members of these fine organizations.” Mitchell says, “I am determined to be worthy of their trust, and that of all the Republican primary voters of the 62nd District.”

The primary election will be held February 2nd.

Mitchell Congratulates Opponent on Planned Parenthood Endorsement

Gurnee, IL-Republican State Representative candidate Paul Mitchell today extended his congratulations to his opponent, State Representative Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake) of the Illinois 62nd District, on her endorsement by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (PPIA), the non-partisan political and advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood of Illinois. The endorsement was announced by PPIA on December 10th, 2009.

cole-2008“I know that Mrs. Cole is too modest to make a big deal of this,” said Mitchell, “but I just think every Republican primary voter in the 62nd district would want to know about this endorsement.”

Planned Parenthood, in its various chapters and affiliates, is the world’s second-largest abortion provider, after the government of communist China. In the United States, Planned Parenthood takes in revenues of $1 billion dollars per year, one-third (or over $300 million) of which comes from federal, state and local governments. Planned Parenthood is also a leading advocate of President Obama’s healthcare reform initiative.

“Sandy Cole’s consistent support of increased state funding for abortion, her firm opposition to even the most modest legal restrictions on abortion, and of course her support for protecting abortion providers from malpractice and mandating sex education beginning in kindergarten, are, no doubt, the main reasons behind this endorsement,” said Mitchell.

Cole was one of few Republicans endorsed by PPIA, whose statewide endorsements in the February 2nd primary all went to Democratic candidates, although Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross was also endorsed. Earlier this year, the national Planned Parenthood organization awarded its prized Margaret Sanger Award to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The award, named for Planned Parenthood’s founder, the noted eugenics proponent Margaret Sanger, is given each year to the figure who has done the most to further abortion in America.

“I realize that there’s a lot of competition for the Sanger Award, but I’m sure that all Sandy’s friends will join me in pulling for her to receive the recognition she deserves for her support of abortion in 2010,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell has been endorsed by the Illinois Federation for Right to Life PAC.

Why they support Paul Mitchell

I am Endorsed: Two Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paul Mitchell picks up Four Group Endorsements

“This morning, everyone here at Paul Mitchell’s campaign office is in a celebratory mood,” said a campaign volunteer on Tuesday. “The list of endorsements is growing; we’ve just added four conservative groups to the endorsements list, with more to come!”

“These four endorsements,” says Mitchell, “show my credibility to my socially conservative base, my fiscally conservative allies, and to the reform/912/tea party movement.”

In a press release, The Illinois Federation for Right to Life Political Action Committee (IFRL-PAC) announced its endorsement of Paul Mitchell as Republican candidate for the sixty-second Illinois House District in the primary election to be held February, 2010.

“Not only has Mr. Mitchell expressed a desire to protect unborn children,” IFRL-PAC’s press release said, “but he has also indicated his support for the disabled as well as those endangered at the end of life.” The Illinois Federation for Right to Life is a statewide organization with local affiliates throughout the State of Illinois.

Paul’s candidacy was also endorsed by Tax Accountability, when he signed their Taxpayer Protection Pledge opposing any and all efforts to increase taxes. “Tax Accountability is the political action arm of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI). NTUI is the largest taxpayer protection organization in Illinois with over 30,000 members and supporters. NTUI was founded in 1976 and since that time we have helped Illinois citizens save over $88 billion in income and property taxes at the state and local levels.”

Paul is also endorsed by the Illinois Conservatives Facebook group, (see article here). Zach Oltmanns of Rockford says he organized the Facebook group a year ago, and that endorsement decisions are made by officers with feedback from group members.

“We make our decisions by a majority vote from our leadership group. The 599 members let me know who they believe we should endorse or look into,” Oltmanns wrote via email.

In addition, Paul is endorsed by the 912 Candidates organization; see Paul’s page on the 912 Candidate website, here.

MITCHELL RELEASES ENDORSEMENTS LIST

List includes two statewide candidates, current and former political leaders.

Paul Mitchell, a Republican candidate for State Representative in the 62nd District, today released the following list of individual endorsements:

  • Mr. Adam Andrzejewski

  • Mr. Ken Arnold
  • Mr. Thom Brasuell
  • Mr. Michael Carbone
  • Mr. Don Castella
  • Mr. Phil Collins
  • Hon. Ralph Davis
  • Mr. Frederick Dempsey, esq.
  • Dr. Sandra Dempsey, M.D.
  • Mr. Peter Karlovics, esq.
  • Mrs. Irene Napier
  • Mrs. Bonnie Quirke
  • Col. & Mrs. Raymond True
  • Rev. Richard Valkanet
  • Mr. Joe Walsh
  • Rev. Randy White

Each of these endorsements is from the endorser personally, and is not representative of the organizations or offices they are associated with.

Adam Andrezejewski is a leading Republican candidate for Illinois governor. Randy White is a Republican candidate for Illinois Lieutenant Governor. Joe Walsh is a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in the 8th district. Ralph Davis is a former mayor of the Village of Round Lake Beach. Phil Collins is Executive Director of the Illnois Center Right Coalition and a candidate for State Representative in the 17th district. Ken Arnold is a former congressional candidate, a Warren Township Precinct Committeeman, and a former Warren Township Republican Chairman. Don Castella is the Vernon Hills Township Republican Chairman. Peter Karlovics is a Gurnee attorney, a Warren Township Precinct Committeeman, and a former Warren Township Republican Chairman. Raymond True is Chairman of the Republican Assembly of Lake County, and a retired U.S. Air Force officer. Bonnie Quirke and Irene Napier are well-known prolife leaders in Lake and McHenry Counties. Richard Valkanet is pastor of Living Waters Assemblies of God Church in Grayslake. Thomas Brasuell is a Grayslake small business owner. Frederick Dempsey is an attorney living in Mundelein; his wife, Dr. Sandra Dempsey, is a Mundelein physician.

Mitchell, 47, a Hainesville resident, is seeking the GOP nomination in the 62nd district, in central Lake County. That seat is currently held by State Representative Sandy Cole (R-Grayslake) who is seeking re-election to her third term. Saying that he is “running on the Republican platform, and not away from it,” Mitchell cites Cole’s votes on spending, increased environmental restrictions, new business regulations, and increased abortion funding, as well her contributions from labor unions, environmental groups, and pro-choice organizations as reasons why he is seeking the office.

Mitchell also criticized what he called Cole’s “lack of leadership” on key issues. “Sandy Cole has authored only one piece of legislation during her two terms, a new restriction on local businesses. She has provided zero leadership on cutting taxes or on ethical reform. I hope to change that when I go to Springfield.”

Says Mitchell, “I’m immensely grateful to all these good people for their endorsements, and many more like them who have offered their support and encouragement to my campaign. I look forward to seeing this list grow into the thousands on primary election day, February 2nd, 2010.”
