What’s missing in 2010 elections: humility.
As I sit down to pen this piece I stew about whether or not our nation will be able to survive the latest charge by neomarxist in an effort to not just derail, but gut any semblance of our past. Are we the generation which will allow freedom and liberty to go by the wayside? If so, why?
I will be straight with everyone – I don’t have the answer at this very moment. In fact no one knows or can predict precisely what will happen in the next couple of years with any real certainty.
Still, my intuition screams that we will be in for a rough ride, as long as people put their own selfish interest above that of the nation. That would include the GOP regains control of a legislative body.
Why, might you ask? I see humility in few who are currently seeking public office.
There are those who seek to destroy this nation from inside out by subverting our laws while attempting gain personal advantage by writing their own interest into those same documents. Oddly enough, it is believed by these same people that enough voters will be either bought off or replaced that it makes the policy a okay.
Then there are those who act as if United States Constitution is a religious document and brandish it as if it were a weapon of brute force. God save those who may not agree with their interpretation or who believe other wise.
Yet I know only too well why many feel compelled to lash out in this manner with the daily bastardization of our nations foundation by those in Washington. I hear the call my self.
Still, it is equally as wrong.
Our founding fathers got it right, power does come from the consent of the governed.
Similarly, Ronald Reagan high lighted a very important functional aspect of that notion. Our elected officials must remember this and work with an attitude of humility.
We should try to highlight what is best about our nation and move forward with policy which reflects our founders intent as much as the law its self. It is not the letter of the law with regards to the Constitution which needs reviving but the spirit. I am burdened down with the lack of leadership who simply wants to do the right thing with an attitude of humility.
To that end I would urge people to note that regardless of who ends up in control of the levers of power in November, without a change in attitude we will be heading in the same direction as four, six or even eight years ago.
2 Chronicles 2:14 says it best:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
I pray that Americans and those running for public office understand the gravity of the situation and choose what is right, because its right.
