Perhaps; when even the New York Times editorial board believes that he ought to stand aside from his Ways and Means Chairmanship for at least a period of time while his tax history is being investigated, the Code Red ought to be issued in Rangel’s office to signal impending political danger.
Of course, it should be noted that Nancy Pelosi continues to protect Rangel in a manner that would outrage her if a Republican Speaker protected a Republican Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee who was similarly ethically situated as Rangel is.

Blame the Repubicans
PaulT Tuesday, September 16th at 2:19PM EST (link)It’s a wonder that Rangel or Pelosi haven’t contrived an excuse to blame the republicans for Rangel’s problems. They seem successful in blaming everything else on “failed Bush policies.”
Rangel will join the ranks of Barney Frank, “Chuckie” Schumer and William Jefferson who have violated the law and/or ethics rules and just walk away. So much for the promise to enforce ethics rules in the House, as promised by madam Speaker.
