See here. One needn’t think that the Obama campaign has done anything wrong to agree with Morrissey’s contention that (a) of course the Obama campaign has had contact with Governor Blagojevich about a candidate who should be selected to fill the Senate seat, (b) “contact” does not necessarily mean “acquiescence to extortion,” and (c) there really isn’t any reason for Rahm Emanuel to be quiet about the issue of whether he helped the feds get Blagojevich.
I will, for the moment, assume that this is merely a poor attempt at controlling a news cycle. But Team Obama had better get in charge of the news cycle and end whatever doubts there are concerning its dealings with Blagojevich. Unfortunately for the President-elect and his transition team, they have now foreclosed any possibility that they merely had an innocuous meeting with Blagojevich. Now, any revelation of a meeting will effectively serve as proof that Team Obama was lying about its dealings with the Governor of Illinois.
And Ed Morrissey may well have provided that proof.

A simple ” yes I talked to Blago ” would at least be honest. As usual, why cover up if there is nothing to hide. Right now it’s hard for me to believe the president elect is not hiding anything.
Past behavior [ and associations ] are a good indicator of future behavior.
I think the problem is that
bk Saturday, December 13th at 6:58AM EST (link)Obama sounds like a blubbering idiot when he speaks off script, so they need several days to prepare him for the scripted soundbites he will deliver. If he ever gets that 3am phone call, I think his answer will be “Present” and when pressed for an immediate answer will say, “Uh let me um consult with uh my top um advisers and uh I’ll uh have an answer um for you uh by tomorrow.”
This is breathtakingly silly.
Justin_Case Saturday, December 13th at 8:15AM EST (link)Anyone the least bit familiar with the way Chicago has been run since the days of the first Mayor Daley, knows that a deal was proposed by Blagojevich to Emanuel.
It’s not beyond the even realm of likelihood that Obama’s virgin ears heard a Blagojevich scheme before the election. These dudes map out their moves well ahead of time just like chess masters. It’s a secret to their success.
I’m willing to bet that it soon will be hard to buy used copies of Mike Royko’s Boss; on Amazon. I wish a hundred times over that he was alive today and we could be treated to his columns. What wit and what understanding he had of the older generation of Chicago crooks.
The problem for Obama is that the national political scene does not have the same willingness to look the other way that is found locally in Chicago. Over the years I have had many relatives, that should have known better, who supported the Democrats in Chicago and Cook County. As long as they got their back scratched at the appropriate time and on certain issues every thing was hunky-dory. After all, “Chicago is a city that works”.
Well, in the words of a noted Chicagoan, “the chickens have come home to roost”.
What an embarrassment for Illinois Chicago politics has always been. Get ready America for the joke is on you for electing Obama.
“The whole world is watching”.
Pardon my Kowalski.

The Office of the President of the United States of America is a buck-stops-here office. Again, the judgement shown in naming Rahm is more proof of bad judgement, as if we needed any.
Ergo, the coverup team needs several days to concoct a plausible deniability as well as intimidate everyone into adhering to the “story.”
You are correct that the right thing to do was just come out with the truth from the get-go. So now everybody is guessing just how damaging the tapes are.
If Rahm did wrong, there will not be merely what the media is projecting, namely a “taint.” No, taint is not accurate. The word is slimed.
Something tells me Obama is wishing Fitzgerald had still been busy with the hired truck scandal.
This is a big problem for The One, and it will be illuminating to watch the way in which he and his team squirm their way out of it.
