Mythbusting–Presidential Polls Edition

Can we stop saying that Barack Obama is an especially popular President? Because it’s just not true. Oh, to be sure, the President will receive a boost in the polls thanks to his non-State of the Union address, but said bump will likely be temporary and it does not disguise the fact that the President is not nearly as popular as commentators make him out to be. He does fine in the court of public opinion, but all things considered, the numbers ain’t that stratospheric.

This all goes back to the fact that Barack Obama is not the messiah. He is just another politician. Terrified Republicans would do well to take note.

Rasmussen Has a similar trend

Though it measures the Approval index, which is Strongly Approve minus Strongly Disapprove, and that’s been down 16 points since Inauguration day.

His worst showing was recent, with 38% strongly approving and 28% strongly disapproving.

Though if you subtract the Democrat’s Generic party advantage (measured by Rasmussen at +4) to get his personal approval ratings, they measure at roughly 55%, which is far from the omnipotent presence he had coming into office. Add in that he’s the first minority president and supposedly “Saving us from a new Great Depression” that’s not very good ratings.

Socialism is Oligarchy in disguise
