Alive And Kicking

With the ouster of William “In His Freezer” Jefferson and the capture of another House seat in Louisiana, the Republican Party shows that it is anything but a spent force. Congratulations go out to Joseph Cao, the first Vietnamese-American to have been elected to Congress, and John Fleming, who beat Obama-backed Paul Carmouche. Jefferson’s loss is, of course, a blow against the kind of corruption | Read More »
The Election May Be Over . . .
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | December 7th at 02:22 AM |
But it remains worth pointing out that self-respecting people all across the country should prefer a root canal, a tax audit, a long wait at the DMV, the Post Office and the Passport Office and the waste of an entire day at traffic school to the distinct displeasure of having to put up with the fatuous nonsense of one William Ayers. Here’s why. And here’s | Read More »
No. They Can’t.
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | December 3rd at 01:56 AM |
Okay, so it is somewhat mean to be so snarky and yes, Democrats have far more to brag about in this election cycle than do Republicans so perhaps I jumped offsides on the snark. But it remains worth noting that with Saxby Chambliss’s big win in today’s Georgia Senate runoff, Obamamania has met certain limits. While there was some concern that Chambliss was not breaking | Read More »
If You Can’t Win, Change The Rules
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | December 2nd at 01:34 AM |
Since the recount in Minnesota is going badly for Al Franken, he is contemplating asking the Senate to intervene. To be sure, the Senate has the Constitutional authority to do so but few things could de-legitimize Franken more than having a Democrat-controlled Senate state that he is the winner when the election officials in the state of Minnesota–no red state, that–seem to think differently. Indeed, | Read More »
Media Bias In The 2008 Presidential Campaign
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 27th at 10:39 PM |
Mark Halperin says that it got pretty bad and that it benefited Barack Obama tremendously. On balance, I think that Halperin got it right.
5 Myths Of The 2008 Presidential Campaign
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 16th at 05:41 AM |
Discussed here. Myth Number 3 deserves to be excerpted, since it will cause the netroots some serious heartburn: 3. Now that they control the White House and Congress, Democrats will usher in a new progressive era. Not likely. At first glance, the numbers do look encouraging for proponents of a new New Deal era in government: Obama claimed at least 364 electoral votes and more | Read More »
Question Of The Day
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 9th at 01:57 AM |
So, how many other news organizations find themselves in the position that the Washington Post is in? Probably quite a few: The Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama. My surveys, which ended on Election Day, show that they are | Read More »

Mandate?
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 5th at 11:35 PM |
I think not. We’ll get the spin to the contrary and in response to the spin, I am personally comfortable in stating that the spinners can’t do basic arithmetic.
It’s Over . . . But A New Beginning Can Be Realized
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 5th at 12:04 AM |
Congratulations to Barack Obama who, upon the convening of the Electoral College next month, will be the President-elect of the United States. This is unquestionably a historic night for the country and one that proves indisputably that even if racism is not dead, it has suffered the most crippling and devastating of blows. And those blows were landed on the body of racism by Americans | Read More »
The Vote
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 4th at 01:20 AM |
When you vote tomorrow, vote to affirm that the surge and the counterinsurgency strategy in Iraq worked and should not be short circuited. Vote to remind a certain Presidential candidate that he and his surrogates can’t get away with the claim that they only intend to raise taxes on the rich. Vote against bankrupting the coal industry. Vote for free trade instead of voting for | Read More »
Um . . . What?
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 4th at 01:19 AM |
If Joe Biden didn’t exist, we would have to invent him: “Hey folks, 37 more hours!” Joe Biden greeted a crowd primed for the home stretch of this long campaign with as much energy as he’s had in the last two months on the trail as well as some typical Bidenese. Telling voters in this swing state that “change is on the way,” the Democratic | Read More »
Really? Are You Serious?
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 4th at 01:17 AM |
Hey, remember all of the derision that met the rumors stating that George W. Bush believed he was an agent of God and that God wanted him to run for President? I really hope that the same people who chuckled at those rumors have some mockery left over for the likes of Cornal Garnett Henning: Adulation of the Democratic nominee is building to a crescendo. | Read More »

Get Ready For The Letdown
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 2nd at 09:28 AM |
Vernon Smith discusses the many ways in which an Obama Presidency would fall short. This is news and information to take into a voting booth, not just something to consider after the votes get counted. If you think that an Obama Administration is going to keep the grandiose promises of the Obama campaign, you are in for a rude awakening–as is the rest of the | Read More »
I’ll Take My Chances, Thanks
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 1st at 12:03 AM |
Charts like the kind found in this post make it clear that anyone forgoing the chance to have personal Social Security accounts is also forgoing the opportunity for a fantastic rate of return that beats anything the government has to offer. This fact, of course, serves to make Barack Obama’s Social Security stance look like the intellectually bankrupt political position that it genuinely is.
On Tax Progressivity
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 1st at 12:02 AM |
I think that our tax system is unfair because it is remarkably and ridiculously complicated, requires untold man hours and amounts of money to comply with and does not broaden the tax base while at the same time reducing taxation rates. Barack Obama thinks that our tax system is unfair because it is not “progressive” enough and because under the Bush Administration, it has rewarded | Read More »
The Politics Of Shunning
By: Pejman Yousefzadeh (Diary) | November 1st at 12:00 AM |
So, there was a big to-do a couple of weeks back concerning the McCain campaign’s decision to kick Joe Klein off the campaign plane–presumably, because Klein has written not-so-flattering coverage of the campaign. Needless to say, this brought all sorts of scorn from the other side of the partisan divide. Wonder what the scornful will make of this: The Obama campaign has decided to heave | Read More »

How Much Do You Think The Obama People Like Bill Clinton?

If your answer is “not much,” you are probably right.
