“Better Late Than Never”

Jaded and Penguin’s Excellent 9/12 DC Adventure

“Better late than never.”  That is the phrase we overheard from a fellow sardine (rider) on the Metro, which we boarded in Vienna, Va. to DC.  Packed as noted, like sardines, that Metro train made many stops along the route, where no one else could board, leaving the metro platforms filled with 100′s of people to wait for the next train.

The overheard phrase initiated discussion.  The statement is self-explanatory, but let’s talk about what it meant.  The individual who said it, was speaking for all of us on these trains bound for Washington, our nation’s Capitol. Why? – to tell the government that we want it to stop.  Stop infringing on our lives; stop telling us what to do, stop taking away our freedoms and controlling us.  You see, that is how far the government has come.  Insidious, sneaky , and oh-so-nice.  A little bit here, a tad there, and now almost, but not quite, completely – have we been taken over.

The March to the Capitol was to tell the government that we want control back.  Were we able to do that?  Only a fool would pretend that something extraordinary had not happened yesterday.  Jaded and family, penguin and husband, joined 100′s of thousands, probably over a million, but I’ll leave the final number count to the experts.  I can tell you from observation, we were like a rookery of penguins marching on Pennsylvania Ave toward the Capitol.  People poured in from the side streets and the numbers surrounding the reflecting pool were awesome.  Whenever one heard the roar of the crowd, it was exhilarating.  The most important aspect about all of this, was seeing the core constituency of our great nation descend, in huge numbers, upon the seat of government, in protest, to stop the destruction of our Constitution and harm to our nation.

Who was there?  Many have already noted gray-haired people in wheelchairs, children, old, young, people from all walks of life, from probably every state in the Union.  Jaded noted “that it is a sad state of affairs, that things have become so bad  that old people and people in wheelchairs need to come out and protest their government.”  Doesn’t that tell us something?

We joined the masses (clean, neat and polite folks), helpful all around, and marched to the Capitol. Couldn’t see much, due to the crowds, but could listen.  Favorite activity was seeing all the creative handmade signs:  “Stop Taking our Childrens’ Inheritance,” “Throw the Bums Out- All of them,” “Liberty and Life,” “It Isn’t Just the Dems,” that was one of my favorites.  Republicans have been complicit in bringing us to this state of affairs.

What are we going to do?  Well, the Tea Parties are a great start.  Get active, join groups and organizations working to stop this Socialism.  Replace this Congress in 2010 and 2012.  Go to the marches and protests.  A fellow RedStater, Janis, notes that for every person at this march, 50-100 were unable to attend.  The people want our Constitution back, the one our Founding Fathers set up.  We want to abide by the Constitution.  Also, ask yourselves, How does a new President go from ‘all’ glory and honor on Inauguration Day, to over a million people protesting him and his government 7 1/2 months later?

Would we march again?  Absolutely, 100 times over.  As the man said, “Better late than never.”

It would have been great to see that many like-minded people, all the great signs, etc.

But you can keep the subway.

    • penguin2

was what made the whole experience incredible. I see you had a neat experience too. Now you are an orator as well as a philosopher.

I like your idea of leverage. That is exactly what we are exercising.

Thank you for the reco. I do like trains though, any kind.

      • isabella2

My husband and I went to D.C. and met a young girl who had a sign which read…. I WANT MY VOTE BACK … we stopped and talked and she said that after 3 months she knew her vote for Obama was a HUGE MISTAKE . Also, my brother-in-law, from Michigan , who voted for Obama wishes he had his vote back !! Hopefully, those who voted for him will come to realize what they did to ruin our country.

        • penguin2

the number of people that regret their Obama vote. I wonder if they do polls on that, or would that be politically incorrect? Let’s hope the numbers grow.

Thank you for your comment and the reco.

        • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

They feel betrayed and ashamed for the most part but really they did us all a favor. We woke up. Had the election turned out any other way, would we have woken up? Would people be aware of what they are about to lose if they don’t mobilize?

Had we gotten McCain instead, we’d still be asleep and the slow creep would have continued. Look at how he is distancing himself from the honesty of Wilson’s outburst. Look what he did at one of his own campaign rallies just weeks before the election.

Staying angry at Obama supporters is the same as being angry with ourselves for sleeping too long and taking so much for granted.

No, we owe them a debt of gratitude, including McCain, Grahamnesty, and all the other squishes.

Nothing worth having is easy. Nor is it taken for granted for too long because when the danger of losing it becomes more likely than the assumption that it will always be there, Americans always rise to the occasion.

          We will prevail.

          • penguin2

He said something to the effect, what if the numbers who showed up in DC to protest, were to go to the big buildings of the MSM…Now that’s a thought. It will be interesting to see what develops from that. A spark that can ignite a fire.

You’re right Steph, we would not be in this place, if the election had turned out differently. We’ve been on this disastrous course for some time. The country needed a smack in the head!

Thanks for your comment and the reco. In order to prevail, we can’t stop.

2 pics of the DC Mall, one from after the in-O-guration, and one from after yesterday…

        What a contrast, eh?

        Who’s classy now?

        • $peciallist

that just about sums it up

        • Achance

          most seem destined for extinction.

          • penguin2

toward self-destruction, well that is sad. As I noted above to TNJim, there seems to be two Americas.

Thank you for the reco. Your works are superb, and I appreciate doubly so, your input.

          • nessa

Cleaning up after themselves is “someone else’s” job. They are “entitled” to throw their garbage on the ground or anywhere it is convenient. Social theory that goes outside thoughts of “me and mine” (imagine those words said in the shrill voice of a 4 year old and you will understand my meaning) will not be considered, much less comprehended. Entitlements don’t foster responsibility, they only lead to the need for more entitlements.
That first pic looks like NOLA, specifically the Superdome and other places the displaced “citizens” were housed. People there would defecate three feet away from their sleeping/living area because the porta-johns were too far away, yea, 200 meters is a long ways.
OK, gotta stop there, if I continue it will just get worse and it will look like I’m guilty of all the things we’re accused of being these days.

        • penguin2

but it is sad, all the same. One of the most interesting observations I would make, was how clean and orderly everything was. People were courteous, helpful and we all tried to pick up loose trash. Are there really two Americas?

        • nessa

Although I thought I came close replying to a troll yesterday. I had the snark set on stun. http://www.theminorityreportblog.com/story/steve_foley/2009/09/12/dc_tea_party_rally_9_12_teaparty#comment-12201

        • JadedByPolitics

I picked up trash the minute I got off the metro that I saw on the ground and said to everyone with me “we have to pick up trash if we see it as we don’t want to leave trash to be used against us”. I smoke also and I always just put the ember out on the ground and put the butt in my pack until I throw them away in a trashcan. So which group of Americans are the stewards of CLEAN EARTH? Conservatives!

        • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

from twitter, either the #iamthemob or #tcot swarm, but I couldn’t find it again to give proper credit. Anyway, Jaded’s right, we know who the stewards of the planet are.

Beware the Liberal, for they consume without creating.
Beware the Liberal, for they expect everything while doing nothing.
Beware the Liberal, for they belittle what they fail to understand.
Beware the Liberal, for they have no conception of the world around them.
Beware the Liberal, for they cast blame but never take responsibility.
Beware the Liberal, for they will always bite the hand that feeds them.
Beware the Liberal, for they will never be thankful for what they have.
Beware the Liberal, for they denigrate the country they live in, but reap all its rewards.
Beware the Liberal, for they will foul their own nest, move, and foul yours.

That came from a comment on the LATimes blogs after they posted Rush’s entire CPAC speech. I think those 2 pics prove it.

          Especially that last line…

        • The_Gadfly

That many people couldn’t not leave that much trash behind.

          • The_Gadfly
          • penguin2

What I saw in DC that day was reality. It really is better for us to have the left remain in their alternate reality.

Thanks so much for the reco. Hope all is well.

          • The_Gadfly

So far I’m hanging in. So far no nibbles on the job front. You’ll know I’ve found something when my commenting frequency drops back to normal.

Way to go, Penguin & Jaded! Thanks for the first hand account and your commitment!

This is the first rally; it was for real, and anyone who thinks otherwise will be looking for another line of work in the near future.

Having been on the Metro many times as a sardine during a ‘normal’ day, and once or twice on the 4th of July, I can only imagine what this was like….

  • mom2oneson

Thank you for sharing!!! That is so awesome you and Jaded both went! I said a prayer for safe traveling for everyone and love reading about it.

    • penguin2

If I never do anything else “big” in my life, this ranks way up there with unforgettable moments. This was that, lump in throat and proud to be an American feeling.

Thank you for the reco, and for the safe traveling prayers; I believe those are always help :)

  • mailloux

currently sitting atop the reco list! Well done and thank you and Jaded for your very active activism.

    Take Care, mailloux

    • penguin2

I am glad that the diary was so well received. It was such an extraordinary experience and to have the opportunity to share it, makes it even more memorable.

The numerous clips and discussions I have since seen, only reinforces how strong the message being delivered in DC and elsewhere was that day. I don’t believe the people are going to quiet down.

Thank you again, Mailloux. I always value your words and support.

  • JadedByPolitics

    Penquin and JadedByPolitics excellent adventure

I throughly enjoyed having a Redstater join me for the fantastic march on DC. I will NOT be engaging a numbers game with ANYONE. I know what I saw and will not be swayed to not believe my own eyes. The gathering of Conservatives to put an exclamation point on the push to 2010 left me speechless when I got off the train and just the sheer enjoyment of being with so many likeminded people will be forever in my memories.

    LET’S ROLL!

  • janis

honor on Inauguration Day” to what happened yesterday? By proving almost daily that everything he said in his campaign speeches last year were total fabrications, or, as they are referred to in South Carolina, “lies.” Those who chose to believe his lies are now feeling doubly betrayed by him. Those of us who knew he was lying a year ago don’t feel betrayed by him–we feel betrayed by those on our “own” side who want us to sit down and shut up and let them handle things as they see fit.

Yes, better late than never. But we will, in future, not be late again. Sometimes being late means missing the event, and sometimes it means that the opportunity to change something has slipped past with no chance for a re-do.

Thanks so very much, penguin and Jaded, for going to this event and representing all of us who were there with you in spirit! The next time, I intend to be there in the flesh as well. And there WILL be a next time, I have no doubt.

Thanks for the diary, penguin and Jaded. Well done, ladies!

  • JadedByPolitics

I said Obama could have been a good President. He could have come in and moved to the middle to be the President for all Americans. He could have done some of his leftists dreams on a smaller scale BUT he didn’t. He chose to RAM down the throats of Americans spending on a MASSIVE scale not seen EVER in our history. He as IGNORED or DISMISSED 59 million Americans who DID NOT VOTE FOR HIM. He acts as if he is a King and not a servant. He will pay for his excessive actions by having a Congress of Republicans WRITING bills and having the votes to over-ride him in 2010 and he will be a one hit wonder and gone in 2012.

  • janis

Penguin2 told me you had “The Cold” the other day, or were in the process of getting it. You’ll enjoy it for a couple of weeks, particularly the extreme sinus drainage. Go to the nearest Dollar General Store and get their generic and cheap version of Mucinex. It doesn’t last 12 hours, but the pills are smaller and easier to swallow and it works great for 4 hours at a pop.

As to Obama, yes, he could have done the smart thing, the good thing for the country and acted like a real President of all Americans. But, just as he doesn’t bother to try and do what will solve some of our problems but instead exacerbates most of them, neither does he try to reach out to all sides and try to bring them together. He’s divisive, dishonest and unpleasantly smug.

I don’t even think the concept “king” covers it, Jaded. Czar of czars? When my son was in his early adolescent years, his friends used to come over here to the farm to play paintball wars. They asked what to call me and in an offhand quip, I replied, “Empress of the Universe.” I was joking. Obama wouldn’t be.

  • penguin2

People can say what they want about the numbers, but pictures don’t lie. They also say, “one picture is worth a thousand words.”

    Thank you!

  • penguin2

as I was riding the train. Finally, the people speaking up. The old saying of “never met a stranger” certainly applied here. Talk about a community. This March on DC was made up of one. Folks from all over the nation, believing in and wanting a return to Conservative government. It was amazing.

We need Jaded to rest up her voice, to get ready for the next one. And there certainly will be one. Am looking forward to seeing you and other RedStaters there. We definitely need t-shirts. Numerous groups, that have sprung up since this Congress has decided to “rule” the people, often had t-shirts identifying their states and cause.

Thank you for the reco and comments.

  • JadedByPolitics

We hollered quite a lot and we sang God Bless America…I can tell you they DO NOT sing that at liberal protests. It was all Americana baby and I am heartened that I am not alone out here screaming for nothing. I am SCREAMING for real concrete American CHANGE.

OBTW Mucinex was the first thing I bought..heh! It burns like crazy but the nose is clear for a good 5 hours…SWEEEEETTTT…..I can breathe for a little while :-)

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

with hundreds of thousands of like minded, peaceful protesters, hackers continued DoS attacks on Joe Wilson’s campaign site. This morning, the 9/12 rally is virtually ignored by the MSM. I guess peaceful protests don’t rate a mention on their precious pages, no matter how large the crowd.

    This article
from The American Thinker sums up what you all did yesterday. You put a face on the phone calls and emails that barraged Capitol Hill during the Cap and Tax vote. You showed them you are real, and really fed up. The DC rally wasn’t the only one, either. From Topeka, KS to Olympia, WA to Beaufort, SC They came out nationwide.

Thanks to you two for being there for the country. We will not be ignored. And thank you for this article, penguin, and you, Jaded, for the pictures. I leave you with this.

Penguin and Jaded did this for you, little girl, and many more just like you.

  • JadedByPolitics

:smooches: I did for her and my son’s and my future grandchildren. I don’t want them saddled with debt to pay for the LAZY Americans in this country in 2009. I saw we were not the only party yesterday and I thank each of my fellow Americans who were out yesterday and those with us in spirit. I do not CARE what the oldstream media says or does I know what I saw and I know what it mean and I am ready and PUMPED UP for 2010.

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

I’m concerned for what the Obamanation will do to me, of course, but these kids are my big concern, and I don’t even have any. That’s why I am in contact with my county GOP on how I can help. That’s why I’m encouraged that girl’s parents took her with them, to counter some of the leftie swill she’s more than likely being served in school. I hope many others will take the energy they got from yesterday and focus it into their local party.

  • penguin2

Thank you for those wonderful words. It was an extraordinary experience, and your great links provide other glimpses of the significance of the 9/12.

I have to tell you, I was uncertain about going. Did not want to seem “foolish,” I am actually a shy penguin. But one thing I have learned since becoming active, standing up for my Conservative principles and beliefs is more important than anything else. Those of you in spirit and the thousands that participated in person everywhere, are doing just that. The MSM can pretend we aren’t out there. They can continue to fool themselves into irrelevancy, but they no longer can fool the people.

Thank you for the reco Jim, your wonderful tech advice which always helps me and your sweet, sweet words.

  • http://www.redstate.com/tnjim TNJim

and the eggs in that nest. The country is the nest. Your kids are the eggs. That was why a shy penguin went to DC. Thank you, and you’re welcome.

Me? I’m just a grouchy old Emperor penguin trying to defend the flock. Watch out, Sullivan County GOP, here I come!

You did a great write up and the pictures speak volumes.

Both of you make me proud to be a tiny part of this site.

  • JadedByPolitics

and I am personally proud to be a small part of this site and a large and LOUD part of the Conservative branch of the Republican Party :)

  • penguin2

the Conservative movement is the perfect “equal opportunity employer.” We do it without government interference or money. You are more than just a “tiny part.” That’s what we are all discovering, each one of us has something to offer, and together it makes a difference.

Thank you for the kind words and the recommendation.

    GO REDSTATE!

what they can do. This is not going away. The people are paying attention. I guess that’s why the man’s comment resonated in my mind-he was speaking for all of us, finally recognizing the threat to our country.

Thanks for the reco and comment. I’d say I was pretty anonymous in the crowd, except for the spirit.

The great silent majority is silent no more

    by Jack Tymann

Here are some personal observations from my wife and myself, borrowing some thoughts and using some pics published elsewhere by A J Strata and others.

We arrived in downtown Washington DC to join the “mob” ~10:45AM. We left uplifted and inspired as the event was concluded ~ 4PM. The entire day was peaceful, from start to finish. Ominous clouds filled the skies and cooled the air, but were blessed that not a drop of rain interfered.

Our initial reactions were feelings of joy and pride and hope – - as we joined the march which spread out from east of the White House and moved slowly, without any organization, toward the Capital. The march began one hour earlier than scheduled because the Freedom Square where folks were gathering could no longer accommodate the crowds arriving ahead of the planned start time. My wife and I literally began filling up with tears as we marched shoulder to shoulder with fellow patriots and concerned citizens. We joined in the chants and cheers and songs that broke out spontaneously along the route.

We had expected a largely older crowd, and were pleasantly surprised by the mix – all ages, plenty of families, along with senior citizens like ourselves. Lot

  • penguin2

accounts. All of them are along the same vein. Patriots gathered together, concerned and speaking out for their country.

Thank you for the reco. It was an extraordinary experience.

  • Flagstaff

with all you “crazy idiots” as my mother-in-law described it.

I forgot to watch the news over the weekend. She claimed she saw “just horrible” signs in the TV coverage. Were there any? I saw the one with BHO wearing a Hit(ecch) mustache. Did you see others that could be called “horrible”?

  • penguin2

From what I heard, not much new coverage except by FOX news. The signs were great. Most of them expressing displeasure toward the entire government, not just Obama and Dems. People were creative and straightforward.

It was nice to be surrounded by so many like minded people, who were not “crazy idiots.” Until I began participating here at RS, the gathering in Atlanta, and the DC March, I thought that was all that was left in the world…I certainly wondered what had happened to the country when the vote went the way it did last November.
