Condi whips WikiLeaks. Condoleezza Rice politically dominates Julian Assange. (YouTube)

December 3, 2010. Condoleezza Rice replies to a question by Katie Couric and one from a member of a studio audience about WikiLeaks.

Condoleezza Rice
I think what has happened is a crime. It is up to the Justice Department to figure out exactly what crime it is but it’s got to be prosecuted and punished or it’s going to keep happening and I hope the penalty is really severe because maybe that will deter this kind of behaviour.

The United States cannot exist in a world where we can’t share information within the government with the expectation that is somehow going to end up on the front pages of newspapers. You can’t do business that way. So I hope it is prosecuted and prosecuted severely.

The event was organised by the Council on Foreign Relation for their HBO History Makers Series.

Wikileaks – Heroes, Villains, Other?

My answer “Villains”, right now, primarily because Condoleezza Rice as my choice for world leader says so.

British Newspaper, The Independent: WikiLeaks vs The Machine

If, as the Independent says, this is a fight between WikiLeaks and “The Machine”, I, for one, am siding with the machine.

I, at least, know the value of discipline and loyalty to the leaders of the free world, whereas it seems Assange and WikiLeaks want to make the headlines irrespective of outcome – sometimes doing good, sometimes risking danger to others.

WikiLeaks is too anarchic right now and Condi should be supported as and when she decides to crack the whip on them.

As Condoleezza Rice, who is, in my opinion anyway, the leader of the free world, precisely promotes freedom and human dignity for all the people in the world therefore WikiLeaks should be more careful to take their lead from her.

I think WikiLeaks needs a new management ethos and organisation hierarchy which works with Condi and her staff at the US State Department (or ex-staff but you know what I mean).

If Assange and WikiLeaks come to order, give an undertaking to toe the line and generally work with “the machine” then maybe Condi will be less severe in the punishments she is looking for.

Generally it is the best advice to appease Condi and give her what she is asking for, most times anyway. The “New World Order” is not an Imperial dictatorship but the world does need a president and it should be Condi, not Assange.

We value freedom of expression, etc, but this really does cross several lines of judgement and common sense….your message, whatever it was supposed to be, got totally lost in the clutter of images.

is disgusting. She has earned the RIGHT to be treated with more dignity then this diary has given her, especially here at Conservative central!

Maybe it’s b/c I’m a newbie and haven’t figured out the intricacies of RS yet, but I thought that diaries were locked once the author hit Submit. The picture of Dr. Rice that was in here yesterday was obnoxious, and I assumed that the whole thing would be taken down by mods for it. Am I missing something on how to edit diaries?

. . . although he certainly could have used more tact and been a little more clear.

His point is that it is not the rest of the world’s obligation to protect America’s state secrets. To a certain extent, I agree with him and here’s why:

The real issue in this Assange/Wikileaks debacle is PFC Manning, the guy who apparently copied the sensitive information onto a CD-RW and then disclosed it to Wikileaks. The spy is Manning, not Wikileaks.

It isn’t Wikileaks’ obligation to protect U.S. state secrets, it is the U.S.’s job to make sure they aren’t disclosed in the first place. You can’t unring a bell, in other words, you have to make sure the wrong people don’t get near the bell, or that if they do, that you stop them before they yank the rope.

The bottom line to me is this: if you are going to go after Wikileaks, you can’t do it “legally.” What I mean by that, is it makes no sense to treat the situation as a legal espionage case. You take care of situations like this as you would take care of an enemy’s efforts to attack or undermine U.S. national security. You “deal with the problem” you don’t litigate it.

Has anyone seen the Bourne movies? I mean, c’mon, the CIA has got to have “assets” out there somewhere. Why didn’t Assange turn up in a ditch somewhere with a bullet in his thick skull? He has pretty much declared war on the U.S. — so deal with it in that context, not in the weak, pathetic way that the Obama administration is trying to do it.

So in that way, I agree with the OP that it really isn’t the “legal obligation” of the world community to protect U.S. state secrets if they are leaked. Such a notion is pretty ridiculous. The real problem is Manning and the way that the Obama admin. responded to the situation.

Manning ought to be charged with treason and if convicted, put to death.

scorpio. That you would even try to understand what this obvious sick minded conspiracy theorist would say is astounding. Do you not pick up the degrading of Condi Rice. Did you not pick up all of the conspiracy theory buzzwords- The CFR, the New World Order. This sicko has no problem with a New World Order, and is sarcastically implying that Condi Rice should be that leader. Look at the graphics, they are disgusting. This is so far below the high standards of Redstate that I agree with Vassar Bushmills- It is strange that it is still here given RS standards. Who cares what Peter Dow, a sicko is saying. Apparently he is so far behind on his history that he doesn’t even know that Condi Rice has not been Sec. of State for almost 2 years. You don’t have any problem with these conspiracy theories, but, you have a major problem because Ron Paul was disparaged in a diary yesterday. Hummm.

        • http://www.flaliberty.org scorpio0679

I have no clue who the CFR or the New World Order are. And no, I don’t care for this diary either it is difficult to read. I was responding to reddog53 as far as what I thought the message of this diary was. I never voiced any agreement with conspiracy theories or anything like that.

After recommending a Murray Rothbard book in the Ron Paul diary, and complaining about those that have posted against his loonacy, you can really say you don’t know who the CFR is, or the New World Order? If you read Murray Rothbard, you must know exactly who those organizations are. I personally think you are a fake, very young, politically very nieve, or a combination thereof. You said that you like Glenn Beck. Beck has done many shows on the One World Order that you claim you know nothing about.

          • http://www.flaliberty.org scorpio0679

“a fake” ? a fake what? who are you to judge anything about me? the truth is I don’t know what CFR is and I don’t know what the New World Order is. And yes I do like Glenn Beck but unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to watch him since last January (other than what I can find on YouTube) as I’m not in the United States at the moment. If you doubt that, you can research the IP address I am posting from right now and find out.

I’m not a Rothbard “scholar” by any stretch — I own one book (The Case Against the Fed) which I haven’t finished yet, and three others sitting on my amazon.com wish list (Man, Economy, and State with Power and Market: The Scholar’s Edition (LvMI), What Has Government Done to Our Money? Case for the 100 Percent Gold Dollar (LvMI), For a New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto (LvMI)).

Either way, I don’t have to answer to you about my age, what I do in life, or whether I meet your standard of being informed. If we ever meet, which is possible as I hope to go to the next RS gathering, I’ll let you make an informed judgment about my honor and character, as you’ve just impugned both unfairly.

          • http://www.flaliberty.org scorpio0679

How do you even respond to an attack like the one you just lodged against me? Should I upload my resume for everyone to evaluate? Do I need to send you my MSM citation? My DD214s? J.D. diploma? Describe every book I’ve ever read, and every television show I’ve ever watched, and in which order so you, Scope, can decide if I am “a fake, very young, politically very nieve [sic: naive], or a combination thereof” or otherwise live up to your standard of being informed?

The way you’ve just attacked me illustrates everything I complained about here. All you are doing is demagoguing and attacking me personally because I hold a belief or position that you disagree with. Besides, what exactly did I say in this thread that set you off? Why can’t you just counter that instead of attacking me personally?

Anyway, you are pathetic, and I’ve already spent enough time answering this trash. If you are trying to make RedState an inhospitable and antisocial environment for newcomers then you are succeeding. Good day.
