Stick a fork in Perry

Stick a  fork in Rick Perry. He’s done. Regardless of how he did during the debate during the broadcast, the still photos of him grabbing Ron Paul by the wrist with one hand and pointing at him with the other signal the beginning of the end for his campaign before it has even started. Given Democrat proclivity to engage in Mediscare type campaigning, Republicans of all types should avoid appearing to intimidate the elderly.  He handed them a campaign photo on a silver platter with that one gesture. If you thought Carl Rove’s anti-man crush on Perry was bad before, just wait. And regardless of the disparity in their ages, there’s  line between swaggering cowboy and bully and Rick Perry crossed it. So long Rick. We’ll pick someone who can keep his hands to himself regardless of any perceived provocation.

You should really get out more.

(and this is not a diary, it is a comment, and a lame one at that).

    • phlogiston

No one needs your permission to post as they please on their own diary.

(And that wasn’t a comment from you, it was an overgrown signature file.)

      • Bill S

to post diaries that don’t meet the standards of a diary. As gekster says, this isn’t a diary. It’s a comment. Next time use an open thread for comments. We reserve the right to delete pseudo-diaries like this one.

        • phlogiston

Some people around here as as crazy as they accuse Ron Paul of being.

          • gekster

But feel free to poke the pirhana all you want.

          • lineholder

Ahhh, the Bill one. Not smart. Bad choice. Popcorn, gekster?

          • gekster

Don’t ask me why, i just like it that way.
Oh, and a large Coke Slurpee.

          • acat

Pass the popcorn. Oh, and I’ve got a couple cans of Pepsi Throwback on ice if anyone’s interested. Real sugar just tastes better.

…along with the other moderators. So don’t do it again or you risk forfeiting your posting privileges. It’s pretty simple, actually.

          • phlogiston

…let me know where I can find these diaries vs comments rule. I double checked the Redstate posting rules subpage just to be sure – nothing there on diaries vs comments. In fact I don’t see anything I did that violated any of the rules. No profanity or vulgarity. Personal attacks? Not by me. At me maybe. So what rule have I broken Mr. Moderator?

          • http://908StraightSt.wordpress.com/ mbecker908

            You’ve shattered it.

          • phlogiston

Don’t post anything you (or Bill) disagree with?

            Got it.

          • Bill S

            Obnoxious is another story.

          • phlogiston

So there is no rule, vis-a-vis comments vs. diaries Bill. Your buddy made that up and you (as all-powerful Moderator) decided to back him up. And I’m the one who’s “obnoxious?!” What a standard THAT is.

Apparently the dominant rule at work here is an unwritten one that says, “thou shalt not say anything remotely, possibly supportive of Ron Paul.” For the record, I’m no Paul-bot. I think he’s nuts. But obviously the crazy person on the stage that night got way too deep under Perry’s skin. That says something about Perry, and it isn’t flattering. In my opinion, it’s disqualifying. I’d still like to know what’s officially “obnoxious” or otherwise rule-breaking about saying so.

          • http://908StraightSt.wordpress.com/ mbecker908

            common sense and decorum.

You are simply off the chart stupid and obnoxious. And you are completely ignorant of politics and the media cycle. Go play with Alex Jones.

          • Bill S

is to ignore idiots, as they’re generally not stupid enough to keep at it. You were obviously an exception.

      • http://908StraightSt.wordpress.com/ mbecker908

you get to take advantage of a no-cost way to make a complete fool of yourself. And, you’ve done well.

  • APA Guy

    First of all, it’s Karl Rove…with a “K”…

Second, whenever you put forth an analysis prefaced by “Regardless of how he did during the debate…”, you tell us you really don’t care how the candidate performed on the national stage or what he stands for.

    Your consternation is so…useless…and unwelcome.

    • phlogiston

…you’ll post your reply twice just to make sure everyone sees it? Great, I misspelled “Karl… with a K” Rove’s name. As if that makes a difference in the basic point?

I don’t care how a candidate performs or what he stands for? Where on God’s green earth did you pull that out of? Actually I care very much how a candidate performs, both on the national stage and off, when the cameras are on him and when they aren’t (or he at least thinks they aren’t). The ability to “perform” well wouldn’t mean so much to you if you had been paying the slightest bit of attention during the past two years.

      • APA Guy

…that the double posting thing happens incidentally, not by design.

The truth of my comment stands. If you DO care how a candidate performs and what he stands for, you wouldn’t have written this useless drivel. I did notice, however, that you are going out of your way to defend Ron Paul downthread…which may or may not be telling, but is curious either way.

Adios…next time, write something worth wasting 5 minutes of my life for rather than 30 seconds…

  • izoneguy

    Just went UP 10 points….

Perry should have given that old gas bag a right hook and layed him out.

  • Tbone

“How many fingers am I holding up?”

As you can see by the look on Paul’s face, he was stumped.

    • bk

Paul was shoving his face in Perry’s finger.

Kind of like how the wall isn’t to keep illegals out but rather to keep us in.

    • mikeymike143

although i suspect it doesnt take too much to stump ron paul

      • phlogiston

Does that make it ok for Perry to grab him?

        • http://908StraightSt.wordpress.com/ mbecker908

is we don’t have one showing Perry slapping the s**t out of the idiot Paul.

    • westcoastpatriette

That’s a beautiful picture. Don’t even have to know what Perry was saying, but I’m sure Paul had it comin’.

  • J. Leg

This isn’t going to hurt Perry.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. He’s just telling Paul to cool it.

What I’m looking for is a more thorough explanation on his change of heart about the abuse of executive power he used. As well as some of his crony capitalist tendencies and his views on immigration.

But overall, Perry’s a solid conservative. He’s a good candidate and standing up to Paul is only going to help him in the eyes of conservatives. It’s a non-issue in the general election.

  • Darin_H

At least Romney4dogcaturz puts some effort into his ‘work’

  • Scope

to keep him from falling. He was away from the support of the podium to hold onto. The finger was telling him – now Ron, I told you that you need to bring a walker with you, but you never listen to the voice of reason.

  • Mike Ferguson

Because you have obviously had one to many hits before this laughable comment.

  • phlogiston

It must have been a better comment than I thought.

  • Bill S

It would only be such if he was pointing out some personal trait of yours that could be used to negate your point. In fact, he was just insulting you, which was probably justified.

  • JSobieski

Rand Paul has already said the conversation between the two was friendly.

Rule #1 when you try to manufacture a scandle is to make sure that nobody close to the parties will dispel the innuendo.

  • lineholder

Perry actually provided a relatively sound explanation of the…how is that you phrased it? “Abuse of executive power?” Just for clarification, that is in reference to the Gardasil incident? Yes, he provided an explanation that for that.

I think someone posted a link to the youtube copy of the entire debate on one of today’s diaries, if you’re interested.

I feel that I do have some moral authority to refer to your “diary” as ridiculous. And as a really creaky little old lady – apparently your opinion of anyone over 70 – my conclusion is that Mr. Perry was not accosting Mr. Paul at all. You see, in Texas we are touchy-feely folks and can’t seem to make a point without touching the one to whom we are speaking.

Now, if Mr. Perry had “beaten the tar” – a Texas phrase, doncha know – out of Mr. Paul and sat on him for a spell, I might take a second look, but I’m sure even then I would come to the same conclusion which is:

Get a life! Your comment is beyond ridiculous, it is out-and-out bizarre. In fact, I’ll go one step beyond – you, sir, are insulting the elderly!!!

  • powertothepeople

and too bad Ron Paul can still see out of his eyes. Ron Paul wants to hide behind “civility rules” all while spewing obnoxious nonsense, pushing buttons on everyone, doing nothing to reign in his rude, disrespectful, and bat crazy tin foil supporters. He is an absolute embarrassment to the party, his state, and this country. He wants to run around blaming the dead for their own death on 9-11, and so far he has gotten away with it. Perry has always been a straight shooter and I have no doubt he put the fear of God in that old bastard. I guarantee Ron Paul knows he will not be allowed to push Perry around ever. He is a joke, a POS, a scumbag, and a joke and should be treated as such. It is about time he is excluded from all debates this election cycle and any other he chooses to run in.

And sorry bub, guarantee anyone who likes Perry, likes him more after seeing those pics and those who were yet undecided, are now fully in the Perry camp. May even get some moderate dems who were embarrassed by the other joke of this country, Obama, because the know Perry will never bow to any foreign dignitary.

I can not wait till this country does two things in 2012, gives Obama his pink slip and hands the Paultard his retirement papers so he can slither away from our lives.

  • Mike Ferguson

it was probably insulting, though I was actually being serious at the time. One photo doth not a campaign make…or break for that matter.

“Bless his Heart” — That is very polite for, “Stupid.”

Now you have a good day, ma’am.

  • pttx333

As I’ve posted on RS before, you can get away with saying most anything negative about another if you follow it with “Bless her/his heart.” LOVE IT and use it frequently. ;-) And another angle to that is as a “seasoned” citizen, you have an added advantage of go a little above that with a “perils of Pauline (or Paul)” routine. You know, use the blink-blink thingy – that works well also! There are definite pluses to attaining the seasoned status.

Aren’t we happy to be from the Southern tradition? I know that I am.

And you have a wonderful day also, ma’am/sir! Thanks for the support.
