The Republican Party needs to support Jennifer Carroll. The Democrat Party can’t stomach a Republican who does not fit the narrative they have framed of Republicans being old white guys winning.

Bottom line, if they are conservatives I will no longer endorse them. With that noted I want to than GC for giving me some background on Melvin Emerson. He definitely is the type of pol I would endorse.

What I think would be great is if you just did a simple link to each ones site so that the reader is seeing more than a face. Pilgrim I like your style and I don’t want any confusion to occur because of a lack of information.

Gamecock, as to identity politics, I believe that without the background info this diary appears to be pandering to the black community in a “hey look, we like you too” sort of way. I know this was not the intent, but I only know that because I have read Pilgrim’s diaries in the past. To someone who is new to the site the intent would be lost, or at least not clear.

I don’t want either of you to think that I am saying this isn’t a good effort, only that it could be better. In fact I really want to recommend this, but I don’t feel that I would be able to without the added content.

I hope you both understand that.

She’s been in the FL House since 2003 and has, as far as I know, a pretty good reputation. She’s definitely got potential.

She first came to public attention in 2000 and 2002, when she ran against Corrupt Corrine Brown. Unfortunately for Floridians in the 3rd District, Brown prevailed both times.

But Carroll should continue to do wel at the state level - and hopefully beyond.

The fact is we need more ambassadors to minorities in our party, because we cannot win by just winning the over 40 white male blue-collar christian gun owner vote.

The fact is conservatism works for EVERYONE. Where our policies have been implented in minority neighborhoods, they flourish.

We need more black faces, more asian faces, more hispanic faces, more Jewish faces in our party. It’s not identity politics, it’s reaching people by putting people forth other people can relate to.

Good work here, let’s give these candidates a platform!

This is important to him because he’s grown up in the Marine Corps and many of his friends are black. It’s less that he is questioning blacks and more that he is challenging me.

I’ve talked to him about Clarence Thomas, etc, but I’m going to show him your pictures about some of the future faces of the Conservative movement.

Melvin Everson was unanimously endorsed by the Georgia RLC Endorsements Committee in July of 2006 as a leading advocate of individual rights, limited government, and private enterprise.

He has signed our Liberty Compact, pledging to ‘restore liberty, not restrict it; shrink government, not expand it; reduce taxes, not raise them; abolish programs, not create them’.

We believe Rep. Everson will be a strong defender of liberty as a member of the Georgia House.

Everson represents Snellville (Gwinnett County in Atlanta Metro) and was re-elected in 06 and 08. I have actually handled legal matters there. It is a racially diverse area that is home to many conservative black small businessmen.

All Pilgrim is doing is showing the world, incl the 99% (literally 99%, not the usual 90%) of blacks that voted for Obama and a high % of dem straight tickets, that Blacks do vote, run and get elected as repubs.

Aaron, it has been a passion of my life to improve race relations, as you know, and I favor the kind of reaching out affirmative action that JFK defined and that I have practiced that seeks qualified employees, etc of color based on merit. I was won over to the gop based on conservatism and feel I have a great message for ALL people to join the conservative movement.

You make a good point about not knowing what they believe. I guess my immediate reply is that they must believe much of conservatism to put up with all the grief they must get for being in the gop. thinking… To me, identity politics is saying someone should vote for them BASED on race.

Plus, consider this, esp in light of a current movement to run a repub in EVERY race in 2010.

The GOP often goes into districts and recruits candidates where none come forward. Obviously, in those races, the party has to take into account who can win in a district. We ought to be recruiting black conservatives to run and financing them.

This is not about identity politics this is about conservative politics….this is about small goverment, less taxes and social issue’s being given back to the states for decision!

We have women, men, blacks, whites, asians, Indians from America and abroad and we have all religions…..do NOT let anyone EVER tell YOU that WE CONSERVATIVES are racists, or bigots!
