Indiana Tea Party Candidates Win!

Indiana currently has six Democrats and five Republicans in the
US House and US Senate. It would be fantastic if they had eleven
Republicans and zero Democrats after the 2010 General election,
and while it is actually possible, I doubt we can be so
lucky.

I am writing this piece to counter some of the articles I have
ran across this morning about how the losses by Stutzman and Risk
are signs of losses by the Tea Party people. There are three Tea
Party winners in Indiana's US House Districts one, two, and
nine.

Mark Leyva
Indiana District 1 111th Congress as elected 4 November 2008
In
the first congressional district Mark Leyva, a carpenter, is one
of the organizers of the tea party movement in Lake County. Leyva
said he's confident this time he can defeat Pete Visclosky,
who has faced recent ethics investigations concerning accusations
the congressman directed government money to campaign supporters.
The House Ethics Committee cleared Visclosky of any wrongdoing in
February, but in 2009 Visclosky was named one of the "most
corrupt" members of Congress by a government watchdog group.
On the campaign trail, Leyva said Democratic voters tell him,

Pete's got to go. He's been there too
long.

Jackie Walorski
Indiana District 2 111th Congress as elected 4 November 2008
In
the second congressional district a state legislator and staunch
anti-abortion conservative, Jackie Walorski won Tuesday’s
Republican primary with 61% of the vote. She is the favored
candidate of the Tea Party movement who had this to say

This is our country. It is time we stand together and
take it back. This Constitution that I have raised my right hand
to defend is under direct assault and I will not stand for
it.

Todd Young
Indiana District 9 111th Congress as elected 4 November 2008
In
the ninth congressional district Attorney Todd Young of
Bloomington won a close GOP contest. Todd is a Fair Tax supporter
and a mainstay at tea parties. Nathan Gonzalez, political editor
of The Rothenberg Political Report, a national, non-partisan
newsletter covering congressional races, called Young’s
victory an upset – even though he’d been campaigning
vigorously since early last year.

It’s so hard to get known in this district and
defeat the high name ID that Sodrel started with. A victory
probably gives Young a boost going into the general election
fight because he has defeated a former congressman.

I don’t think Hill is vulnerable because of a particular
scandal or misstep. It’s because voters are concerned about
the direction of the country, concerned about Washington D.C. and
Democrats are in control of everything. That makes Hill
vulnerable.

Let them write any headline they want because...

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 1:15PM EDT (link)

come November 3rd the headlines will be Republicans have the largest MAJORITY ever in the House and nothing will get done in the Senate until more Republicans are elected in 2012 while saying goodbye to Barack :)

YES Jaded and HUGE GC Recommends. Thx for writing this and

hint

tea party is simply a name for the underlying cause that Coats advances:

Americans are being educated in the evil that are liberla policies and will vote accordingly in Novermber, as they have from NJ to MA.

There are Tea Party groups across the nation who have invested their money in campaign contributions for primary candidates. In Indiana their primary candidate for US Senate and for US House 8th were Marlin Stutzman and Kristi Risk. These two candidates did not win the primary, but the three I listed did win. Some “concern trolls” have tried to say now the Tea Party people are going to be depressed, but I am not buying what they are trying to sell.
Like you said Americans are smarter than some will give them credit for, and they will vote accordingly in November.

Yes, and the main importance of the whole "tea party" phenomena is what it represents as a manifestation of

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 4:57PM EDT (link)

a more broad sentiment across the electorate about the efficacy of liberal economic policies, not whether some particular candidate endorsed by some particular tea-friendly group, won a primary.

more later now as I continue this with a subject line headline appropriate to the issue

The supposed perfect vs the known imperfect and the CERTAIN GOP landslide in Novermber

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 5:05PM EDT (link)

There is no perfect conservative candidate. But there are many very NEAR PERFECT ones, especially given the mind-concentrating special elections and polls that will is and will make ALL Republicans better.

I just recently confirmed a decision I made in my heart weeks ago. I stopped working for a local campaign due to my disgust with the tactics in a GOP primary in which the candidates agree on 99% of the issue.

I will not participate in a mostly puny and irrelevant character-testing process.

I have that luxury of quiting. Others can’t and I understand that.

But let’s be careful in primaries in how we affect the cause of saving this County with our votes.

Just as I remind Democrats that insist on the differences between Hillary, Bill and Obama – libs and leftists basically vote the same way.

Lets remember that with our primaries too.

The TEA Party Movement will back Coats in the General Election...

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 6:07PM EDT (link)

because quite unlike RINO’s WE recognize that difference between Republicans and Democrats and that is that Republicans LISTEN when WE The People speak! AMNESTY was PROOF of that! WE may not agree with everything the liberal wing of the Republican Party wants to do however the most liberal Republican is NO LEFTIST like the Democrats in power at this moment in time! I also as do the TEA Party Movement in general that Conservatives will be the MAJORITY in the House and Senate and McConnell better recognize his NOT necessarily the guy who will be running the Senate!

I can't express how VITALLY IMPORTANT is this comment, however jaded!, but seriously - nt

Well GC the only people who believe for a minute...

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 7:34PM EDT (link)

that the TEA Party will not fall in behind the Republican in the race if their person is defeated in the primary would be the Democrats and the Corrupt Media but then I repeat myself. I truly believe that the RINO’s in the party are just Democrats who lost their party to the Socialists/leftists/statists and really that pollster Pat Caddell is the best person to listen to for understanding who they are. The TEA Party is not made up of all Republicans and the Democrats in the Movement know the only way back for the Democrat Party is to shake out the leftists and wrench it back to the middle ie: the DFL’ers etc and the only way to make them do that is the put them in the wilderness for a while.

This is a center RIGHT Country but the Socialists in charge at this time are hard LEFT so OUR fortunes are rising because the Republican Party is indeed the big tent party……make no mistake it is going to be the Conservative Party but it is big enough to welcome wayward Democrats whose Party has been seized by the hippies of the 60′s!

It is no secret that a MAJORITY of Americans believe that the Government is out of control with spending and that only Republicans in a MAJORITY can stop the insanity because well they have already been taught their lesson on spending.

They think we wont' support the R candidates because they don't know tea party participants

earlgrey (Diary) Thursday, May 6th at 9:46AM EDT (link)

They have their own ideas about what the protesters are, and they don’t respect the movement enough to really understand us. They see us as radicals the way many see Obama as radicals. Therefore, they don’t expect us to think rationally. IMHO

thanks for the update on my beloved home state! I don’t live there any more, but my heart belongs back home in Indiana. I used to love the way Jim Nabors would sing that song before the Indy 500.

The Silent Majority

badabing (Diary) Thursday, May 6th at 6:59PM EDT (link)

We are the silent majority. the ones who will sit in judgment of the liberal atrocities that are raining like plagues on our once great (and soon to be great again) nation. Some of us shout from the rooftops, but most are silent, busy raising our kids, running our businesses, going to work or school. But come November, we will be silent no longer. Our tide will sweep the nation and once again The People will rule this nation. No more liberal demagogues, no more socialist policy. We will rise up and take back our country from the children have been ruining it.

So pil...any chance that Lindemulder demands

eburke (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 3:46PM EDT (link)

a recount. Last vote total I saw was like a 28 vote differential between the 2. Obviously, Leyva is one of ‘us’ but if Lindemulder were to challenge this and win..how’s he look?

the only thing I do know about him is he is young.

pilgrim (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 4:10PM EDT (link)

He is 28 years old, and he would be the youngest member of the Indiana delegation. I am not really invested in either guy, but Leyva has more money he can obtain from the Tea Party than Lindemulder has.

There is no tea "party"; there are only tea partiers

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Wednesday, May 5th at 4:46PM EDT (link)

Below is an example of how the lib press prepares to try and set up the tea party for discredidation

I think is an example of just how prescient and important is your blog today

It will take an act of God to dislodge Vislosky.

grandma Thursday, May 6th at 12:17AM EDT (link)

And I want to help Him.

Unfortunately, only 25,317 republican votes were caste for IN district 1. Visclosky, unopposed, received 41,196 votes.

http://www.in.gov/apps/sos/primary/sos_primary10?page=office&countyID=-1&partyID=-1&officeID=5&districtID=-1&districtshortviewID=-1&candidate=

The dems have held us hostage since 1931. Lake County, where Gary is located, contains over 70 percent of the district’s population per wikipedia.

I agree grandma in normal times the Rs lose Gary

pilgrim (Diary) Thursday, May 6th at 8:40AM EDT (link)

The one thing that is working in the Rs favor this year is that Reid, Pelosi, and Obama have over-reached so much that these are not normal times.
