Will of the People

On November 2nd, 2010, the American people informed their government they disapproved of this country’s current direction and overwhelmingly elected a significantly large number of Conservatives to the Congress of the United States.  Unfortunately, due to the orderly transition of government, the will of the American people would not be set in place until January 5th, 2011.

The ensuing period was intended for that transition and not for the defeated members of the Congress to implement changes they could have implemented prior to November 2nd, 2010 or in any of the preceding 22 month period.  What has since occurred is nothing short of immoral and outrageous.  This is an insult to the “Will of the People” and simply does not reflect the voter intent on November 2nd.

I will list my three points of contention as follows:

As to the Bush era TAX RATES, Republicans were labelled as “hostage takers” by a sitting American President and in a very short period of time Senate Republicans capitulated and agreed to significant increases in government spending.  We can debate this issue forever listing advantages and disadvantages, yet did we not seal a deal and a bargain with a President whose credit rating with the vast majority of the American people had been labelled HIGH RISK on November 3rd, 2010?  Did the Congress act in the best interest of a majority or of a minority of the American people?  The answer, the latter should be painfully clear.

As to a group of people whose sexual preferences fall significantly within a minority of the American people, did we now establish sexual preference as a CLASS, somewhat like someone from a Pacific Island or from the Aleutians?  Did we really examine the issue carefully and rely upon military commanders in the field?  I for one, think not and now the sitting American President indicates he will again rethink his position on the matrimonial union of same sex partners, again acting contrary to the “Will of the People” and the expressed desires of the citizens of many sovereign states of this union.

And finally, a START treaty during an era, when the third world in every direction is seeking nuclear armament and may be aided by the very people we are ratifying a treaty with.  Is this the “Will of the People”, the majority of America?  Only time will tell, but the time to examine this treaty was before November 2nd, 2010 or after January 5, 2011, when this system of government would be truly representative of our citizens.

And then we have the DREAM Act, which again failed, yet has again emboldened a “credibility bankrupted” President and political party to try again in the future, neglecting those critical issues, which include, yet are not limited to American LAW and border security, not to mention the millions who have immigrated to this country LEGALLY?  And I haven’t even touched on a fragile economy in which jobs are scarce and at a premium for the 17-20% of our legal residents who must rely on Unemployment payments.

And just the other day I received a final insult to the “Will of the People”, a form letter from Senator John Cornyn which I will excerpt from.  ”Our wins have set us up to deliver twin knock-out blows………….and ushering in a conservative Republican Majority in the U.S. Senate, like we did for Ronald Reagan back in 1980.” Senator Cornyn, you did nothing!  The conservative majority was the “Will of the People”.  And now in one of the bullet points “Political winds shift quickly, so I’m counting on your immediate help to bring in even more reinforcements who will vote for limited government, lower taxes, and common sense spending restraint.” Well Senator, the “Will of the People” expressly stated on November 2, 2010 wanted their voices to be heard by a newly elected Congress which would be seated on January 5th, 2011 and not by the “defeated” group of “political losers” who have failed to heed the “Will of the People” for the last 22 months.

And in so doing the “Lame Duck” has not withered and died a peaceful political death, but has been supplied with new wings by a group of “so called” Republicans who I would submit have failed to take heed of the “Will of the People”.  You all have supplied a “bankrupted” ideologue President with “political capital” he neither merited nor deserved from you in the 22 months which preceded November.   This “Lame Duck” will soar into the new Congress, emboldened and claiming a change in the “Will of the People” which does not exist.  Never before in the history of this country, have we witnessed the victor become the vanquished during a very short period of time which our political representation did not accurately reflect the “Will of the People”.  The Congress now sitting has been accurately depicted as a group of “class elitists” who are respected by only 13 of every 100 citizens who expressed their desires in November.

Yes, in a very short period of time you have managed to tell the American people that for two months every two years, their collective “will” counts for nothing.  And to those who say we need a third party?  That is ridiculous and only will weaken the “will of the people”.  This is exactly what our liberal friends desire, so we must simply remember what has just transpired and DEFUND the RINO.  It took all of a few minutes to telephone the NRSC and take my name off their mailing list.  Interestingly, they didn’t even ask why.  And when calling the RNC, to express my dissatisfaction as I have alluded to here, they didn’t even see fit to ask my name.

Hear my name loud and clear Republicans.  I am a Reagan-Rubio conservative from South Florida who is ready to welcome you all to Tampa in 2012.  All that I ask the Maine, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio, Utah and Alaska contingents is to drop your RINO’s off at Busch Gardens.  For my money, Marco Rubio and the challenger to Senator Bill “Let’s Make a Deal” Nelson will get it for the next election cycle.  Are you listening Colonel West? We may need you in the Senate sooner than later!

Lockerbie Scotland Bomber-Revisited

Back in August of last year I vigorously protested the decision in the United Kingdom to release upon compassionate grounds the only individual convicted for this heinous crime.  I wrote in part…”Have you forgotten the pain of the victims themselves or their families?  Have you forgotten that many were American citizens?  It is obvious that you have and it is painfully obvious you don’t really care.  How thrilling it was to watch a convicted mass murderer receive a hero’s welcome in his native country.  I understand his native country may have close energy ties to you.  Is this true?  You may not care about someone like me or what I think, but I will promise you I will never forget your decision to release a man on compassionate grounds when it is obvious he had no compassion for others about 20 years ago.  I, prior to today had always admired Great Britain and Scotland and unfortunately this single action has greatly altered my opinion.  Do not expect me for a visit for you have betrayed justice.  Do not expect me to support you should you be threatened again and congratulations on your strengthened ties to Tripoli.”

It had been reported the Libyan “bomber” was estimated to have about 3 months left to live.  Eleven months later through a marvel of medicine or oops, dare I say the credibility of the English health care system, he remains alive and “free”, something which the victims of his crimes no longer enjoy.  It has also been reported the United Kingdom is now “looking into the matter”.  How strongly consoling to us all in the United States.  I wait with eager anticipation to read the BP annual report and other English oil companies dealings with their Libyan friends.

I know the history of our proud country did include a visit to Tripoli a few centuries ago by United States Marines as well as a Ronald Reagan initiated flyover by the United States Air Force in the 1980′s.  If this is what our allies do, I shudder to think of what those who have no respect for us whatsoever will do.  And to be at the mercy of foreign oil particularly those who cannot be completely identified as friendly to us while suppressing our own oil development, due to a tragic spill in the Gulf of Mexico by……..you guessed it, BP.  In a word, “insulting”.

Immigration Enforcement and Law Enforcement

One can’t help but notice the degradation of the law enforcement profession by liberals.  In the past year, the profession had to endure and overcome the criticisms of “acting stupidly” in Cambridge, Massachusetts before all of the facts were in.  The “Instant healing elixir” of beer was applied, because you know how much police officers love beer and oh I suppose donuts too!  Such insulting stereotypes are continually being borne by the men and women of law enforcement on a daily basis.

Regardless of ethnicity, gender, and other identifiers, it seems all of the profession is “lumped into one tidy package” of a group to be attacked by liberals when something goes wrong.  In a span of over 40 years the thanks I received (and I will tell you I never entered the profession for thanks) were vastly outnumbered by the complaints and criticisms of politicians, judges, lawyers, and many citizens for what I believed was “just doing my job”.

I believed I was a member of one of the finest professions in the United States, law enforcement and to this day believe I served the citizens who employed me very well and to the best of my ability.  I believed then as I do now that it is a great profession responsible for fairly and impartially ascertaining facts which either do or do not constitute violations of American law.  I proficiently became familiar with the United States Constitution and all of its amendments and endured what seemed like annual changes to it by a Supreme Court which believed in tightening control of the law enforcement profession to curb, curtail and eliminate any and all abuses by it, whether perceived or genuine.

Often, I was convinced such changes were not necessary, but were solely ordered by mistakes made by my fellow officers in a singular case.  In effect, all of law enforcement pays for the mistakes of a few.  Media accounts are comprehensive and exhaustive of police misconduct, yet the taking of a law enforcement officer’s life, the “ultimate sacrifice” lasted until their funeral.  Usually the trials of those responsible received media attention only if police misconduct was alleged and rarely, if ever have I ever heard of the murder of a law enforcement officer as a “hate crime” which it often is.

And now the State of Arizona has enacted a law aimed at removing immigrants who are in Arizona UNLAWFULLY.  Please notice I did not say UNDOCUMENTED because to me that means they are here legally and forgot their legal papers at home.  It is so convenient to say UNDOCUMENTED rather than ILLEGAL or UNLAWFUL.  Society hires its’ law enforcement to enforce the laws it enacts and for the most part, the professional men and women of law enforcement do so to the best of their ability at great risk to their lives on a daily basis.  Yet liberals and many members of minority classes begin to do what they reportedly trying to eliminate.  They ASSUME the law enforcement profession will engage in UNLAWFUL PROFILING and STEREOTYPING in the enforcement of the law, although American law specifically prohibits it.

How sad liberals and others degrade themselves to that level when they in fact are STEREOTYPING and PROFILING the entire law enforcement profession, rather than placing their trust and the public confidence in them to do the job and enforce the laws they were hired to.  Officers endure this scrutiny 24/7 while trying to do the right thing.  Officers are taught to conduct themselves as though they are being videotaped in perpetuity.  The question which begs to be answered is what profession demands the same type of accountability?  Any members of the legal and/or political professions wish to convince me they are under the same scrutiny?  (Maybe just maybe now it is starting)

I’m sure liberals feel quite assured the law enforcement profession enjoys their chance meeting each day with the community they serve, when a single officer walks up to a motor vehicle containing a number of visible people, yet have one or more who might be crouched down or even in the trunk.  And don’t forget the thrill of entering a poorly lit street or alley or any yard or park or dealing with someone who doesn’t speak the officer’s language or has no identification whatsoever upon them.  It is always a pleasure to simply assume the name and date of birth being supplied is accurate and truthful and to later discover it was not and a criminal was left on “the street”.

As I stated previously, officers for the most part do not do the jobs you ask them to do for your thanks, but they do desire you let them do the job and enforce the laws this society has enacted, without the fear they will be automatically accused of “acting stupidly”, or worse STEREOTYPING and PROFILING when doing their job.  There is enough PROFILING of the law enforcement profession right about now.

Is It Time For Despair?

To the Republican National Committee:

Good Morning and Merry Christmas to all of my fellow citizens.  While I am a Republican,I find it ironic that I believe both major parties have abandoned the American “common man” in this time of great crisis.

This peril we face did not just start yesterday, so for Republicans who say they never saw this coming, I say you must be “dumber than a box of rocks” or worse, complicit.  You were presented with great opportunity in 1994 and you may not see another as our Constitution is being manipulated like a rubber band.

The moderation of the Republican Party shall be its ruin.  You may mark those words.  Failure to return to strong moral and conservative values here and now if ignored, will never see the opportunity again.

Am I pessimistic?  I guarantee you as God is my witness, I am more than that.  I have contributed to my party and seen them merely take sides in primaries and foolishly spend monies on RINO’s.  You know who they are.  Should I repeat NY-23?

The Republican Party of Florida will not even reply to my inquiries as to how to volunteer in my community, or to how the Party is spending the members’ money. It will not explain why it takes sides in contested Republican primaries.

I yearn for voices that are not Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh, no disrespect intended.  I yearn for term limits.

I sincerely hope you read this.  You have my name and you should know how to reply to me.  You solicit me for contributions at least twice a month.

I trust I will be heard.

A Plea For Civilized Discourse

While I am new to this site, I have been strongly conservative for many years.  Now that I am retired from urban law enforcement, I can freely express myself, without a fear of censure.  Yes everyone,  try being a conservative in an urban environment sometimes wrought with crime.  You know, where everyone points the finger at someone or something else when something goes wrong.

Now to the point.  I do not believe everyone who posts here is a true conservative.  If you were, you wouldn’t shout in your posts to be heard above one another.  If you were, you would not resort to profanity nor would you respond to it.  There is no way to confront ignorance, other than to rise above it, ignore it when identified, and try to change it by not participating in it.

As 2010 approaches, we are on the precipice of something quite astonishingly great, or if we fail to behave as true conservatives, something tremendously tragic.  The choice is in all of our hands, and keyboards.  Let us all resolve to have our discourse, and our disagreement in the ways we want our conservatism to be viewed, and that is as a role model to be admired and emulated.

And to those who need to resort to crude language and sometimes profanity….to those who seemingly have to shout your point above the others……….and to those who are unable to admit a mistake here and there………I will choose not to be one of you.  You all know of those posts I am referring to.  The reason I don’t even identify them here is I am withholding what they truly desire.  My attention.

America and Crime-Violent and Hateful

As a 36 year veteran of urban law enforcement and now retired, recent events compel me to share a number of observations and opinions.

I entered law enforcement in the late 1960′s during a period of great civil strife in this nation.  There was violence for the sake of an anti-war movement and violence for the sake of a civil rights movement.  Though conservative at the time, but not very political, I couldn’t help but see a common thread repeating itself over and over again.  There were a number of “excuses” as to why crime was being committed such as “economically depressed”, “psychological disorder”, “deprived childhood”, and a variety of many others too numerous to mention.

The American Society needs to quit “looking for excuses” and recognize violent crime for what it is and that is immoral, hateful, and the basest of all evil.  I have dealt with serial murderers and I have a revelation to all of you.  They are not “monsters” and they are not “crazy” as you would prefer to believe.  Many from Mexico have entered the United States either legally or illegally and have committed violent crimes.  I am familiar with a number of Mexican citizens who have murdered in this country and then fled back to Mexico.  Law enforcement here can even tell you their addresses in Mexico.  Is this odd?  No!  The United States does not have an extradition agreement with Mexico.  The Mexican Solution?  Send us your paperwork and evidence and we can try them in a Mexican court for you.  I have participated in investigations in which the suspect was convicted of murder of brothers in a tavern during a billiard game for just dollars!  Now here is the worst part.  The suspect is paroled and murders again.  I bet you wouldn’t guess it was over a game, ………but it was.  Now back to the “excuse” part.

There are those who will say if we take away the guns this all will stop.  I’ve got really bad news for you.  The violent criminals and other assorted thugs in this country WILL NOT BE the first in line to turn theirs in.  Thank God for a Second Amendment in which I can protect myself and my family from anyone who tries to deprive us of our lives or liberty.  And now for the best part.  America, REHABILITATION is not working.  Recidivism in the United States continues to grow.  With all of our nation’s current woes the problem of violent crime is overshadowed.  Statistics may report violent crime has fallen by such and such a percent.  Tell that to the victims and their families.

Then there is the political influence.  As a law enforcement professional, I could care less about your political base or whether or not you are even re-elected.  A message to all politicians.  Leave your law enforcement officers alone to do their jobs and that job is to protect us, keep the peace, and to “seek the truth”, no matter what that truth is.  The recent events in the State of Washington in which 4 police officers were killed is a tragedy I hope is never repeated but I know it will.  Many have very little respect for law enforcement and this lack of respect is growing.  Law enforcement is seen unfairly as the representative of government and often times of government’s failures, not its own.  Why did it only take a “split second judgement” by the leader of the greatest nation on earth that the “Cambridge Police acted stupidly”.  So a message to all of the politicians on both sides.  Whatever you are doing about crime does not seem to be working very well.  And lastly, I just wanted to touch on “hate” and “hate crimes”.  When someone expresses and then acts upon violence toward another in an unlawful manner there appears to be a possibility that a certain amount of “hate” is involved.  So to all of you who need to feel good about making it a hate crime when it involves minorities, life styles, and/or religious preferences, how about protecting a minority that is near and dear to my heart, the law enforcement professionals of the United States.  As a young officer I experienced the disdain of many a politician and political movement.  To that end I thank you for the conservative I am today.  Yet I was, and the many great men and women of law enforcement today are sworn to protect you and accept your disdain and sometimes hatred.

And in closing, I have a great suggestion to all of the politicians in this country as to how to get this economy going.  Use TARP funds to BUILD MORE PRISONS and BUILD THEM NOW.  You will create a great number of jobs and as a further solution to the problem, build them as “maximum security” and convicted prisoners will work no more nor less than 40 hours per week to repay American society the “debt” they owe.   If they refuse, solitary confinement facilities should be helpful.  To the law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the State of Washington, I will pray to God this ceases to occur.  To your families, I know of no words which can be expressed which can comfort them.  The fingers of blame will be many but “society” will scapegoat somone when “society” itself is to blame.  In closing, my dear American society, recognize the deeds of violence for what they are, manifestations of hatred and evil and please quit trying to make “excuses” for every violent event or attaining the answers to the unanswerable question of WHY?  I leave you with my sincere belief that a society which attempts to rehabilitate its violent criminals is condemned to be victimized by them.

It’s Saturday Night!

Wanted to share my  e-mail to the Honorable Democratic Senator from Florida, Bill Nelson………….

I can’t help but ask you why the Senate would meet to discuss this issue on a Saturday night.  Along with the Health Care Vote of the House of Representatives late on a Saturday night a few short weeks ago I have to ask this question.  Is it because the Congress believes we will not pay attention or is it because there is no one to answer your phones?  Hopefully there will be plenty of recording space.  The decision of the Congress to work so hard for me and the rest of the American people late on a weekend is very curious.  Are you all so over worked you can’t accomplish what you need to do during a weekday?  More than 200 years ago, the Continental Congress had to meet under the cover of night.  I have great news for our current Congress.  The British are no longer here.  In any event dear Senator, I again ask you to honor the will of the majority in the health care debate.  If you are not aware of the polls, maybe a courier on horseback can deliver this to your honorable body this evening.  I also want you to know I believe the Senate’s version of “Saturday Night Live” will not humor this electorate.  Or…..does CSPAN need to improve its’ weekend share of audience?

Leadership

I have ordered my copy of “Going Rogue” and intend to read it as soon as I get it.  It is from books, interviews we witness, the public record, and our inner sense of what is right and what is wrong that we should form our judgements of Sara Palin.  We should reject media hype, whether it is bashing or praising and begin to independently assess Ms. Palin and whether she will be a leader in the conservative movement.  It is we, all of us, who will make a critical decision very soon which will dramatically affect the direction of this dear country of ours.  Leadership is a quality which one is not born with.  It is acquired and it is earned by the leader.  It is through those who choose to be lead, which give the leader no choice but to lead.

Conservatism

This much needs to be said.  If this country fails to recognize it is on the path to socialism and with it the accompanying apathy, lack of pride, and the oh so important global citizenship, our country will be resigned to this pitiful path.  My grandmother fled a part of the world 90 years ago and came here to make a better life for herself.  My father worked 3 jobs to make a better life for his own family and early on saw his union leaders attending conventions in Hollywood, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada and realized the only thing which would help the working man was hard work itself.  By the way my grandmother and father, should they have lived to see today would cringe at “sharing the wealth” and profess that “charity begins at home”.  I want no part of a global citizenship that over the span of a century has failed to repay debts to my country and continually attacks and labels my country as their enemy whether the tongue be Spanish, Arabic, Asian, European, or any other.  I question the term “energy independence” when there are many untapped resources in this country in which legislation prohibits their exploration.  I defy the person who would say we are not a “nation under God”, yet I would defend your right to say this.  I cringe at a criminal justice system which believes it can “rehabilitate” our criminals.  To all that believe in this rehabilitation I would submit a radical new concept, PUNISHMENT.  Think of all “prison industry” could do to alleviate the current tax burden.  It is endless.  Yet we have many who think “doing the right thing” is akin to doing what is “politically correct”, yet this is morally reprehensible.  We live in a societal age in which there are those who are privileged to assign the term “racist” and “racism” yet believe based upon history they have been granted an immunity from such terms.  The terms themselves are quickly brought about when any criticism becomes indefensible and that too is sad.  We need to get back to one people and one nation under God.  I am of the 1960′s, just like the Panthers and the Weather Underground, but at one time I believed I was in the “Silent Majority”.  I am watching now as our government becomes very large “for the good of the people”.  My question is what will we be when we all work for the government?  I do not blame one political party for the current quandary we find ourselves in.  I also blame conservatism for being far too silent.  It is time we return to “God, country, and family”, stop fingerpointing, and return to morality, not moral judgement.  At present, you have the right and the inherent responsibility to disagree with me if you must, but tomorrow, only time will tell.

Lockerbie, Scotland

Just sent this note to the Scottish government………..

As an American citizen I am completely outraged by your government’s decision to release a convicted terrorist on compassionate grounds after only 8 years of incarceration.  When divided by the over 250 lives which were lost that comes to about 31.25 lives per year of incarceration or 2.6 lives per month.  As a retired law enforcement officer and hazardous devices technician your actions are appalling.  As an officer who participated in homicide investigations for over 15 years including the crimes of Jeffrey Dahmer, your leniency is unparalleled.  Have you forgotten the pain of the victims themselves or their families?  Have you forgotten that many were American citizens?  Have you forgotten a country which helped to prevent your annihilation a mere 65 years ago? Do not expect me to support you should you be threatened again and congratulations on your strengthened ties to Tripoli.  I would be very surprised by any response you might care to offer.
