The Newtown Connecticut School Shooting

And the liberals predictable response

I really don’t even want to be writing about this. The last thing I wanted to do was politicize another gun tragedy. But it seems that I’m being forced by the usual suspects(liberals) to speak politically about this.

As we all predicted their immediate reaction is to call for more gun control . But  what they don’t do is direct their anger at the real problem. And that is the shooter.  So here we go again, we are most likely going to get legislation for more gun laws that mirror the ones we already have on the books.

It would be nice when something like this happens to come up with solutions that are effective.  But unfortunately, we are outnumbered by a lot of knee-jerk reactionaries.

I will conclude by asking the liberals to do just one thing for me.  Would you at least say that Ryan Lanza was an evil man ?  Coupled with that, would you come to terms with the fact that he would have killed those children regardless of whether he had a gun or not ?  You see when you start thinking in those terms, you actually move toward sourcing the problem rather than coming up with a bunch of feel-good  policies  that  take away more of our freedoms and move us that much closer to tyranny .

You are asking Liberals to be reasonable. Unfortunately if liberals could be reasonable then they would be conservatives.

It might be an idea to correct the name of the person suspected of being the shooter. And regardless of 2nd Amendment access arguments I find it somewhat unlikely this individual would have been able to murder 20 children and 6 adults without the assistance of a firearm – ignoring the fact that guns are remarkably effective doesn’t help anyone IMHO.

Who was the shooter? I heard his name was Ryan Lanza and he was killed at the time of the shooting. Possibly by his own gun. And sir, if it was in his heart to kill innocent children he would’ve found a way. Evil people can figure those things out.

Okay I stand corrected. Sources are now saying that the shooter’s name was Adam Lanza. But still, my request remains the same. Would you please identify Adam as an evil man?

So, you think that a 20 year old is incapable of going onto the internet, finding the recipe for making a homemade bomb, and using that to carry out his attack? You’re right, guns are effective, equally effective in practically anyone’s hands. If the school had an armed security guard, this young man would never have been able to pull off such a deadly attack….with a firearm. You could take guns away from every person in the nation, and the shooter would still have easily gotten into the building with a bomb in a backpack, and potentially killed far more students, with or without a security guard. He used guns because it was easier than making a bomb, and he had access to them, but an armed security guard would have just as easily been able to use a firearm on him. No amount of sarcasm from you will change the fact that people intent on committing horrific acts will find a way to carry them out, with or without guns.

Not incapable no, but it requires a lot more planning, a lot more risk (timing, fuses) and more stages and does not compare in my opinion.

And FWIW it’s not sarcasm at all. Why are guns sought after as effective self-defense tools? Because they are singularly effective as lethal weapons from a safe (for the user) distance and are able to deal with multiple threats in a concealable package. Those characteristics which make them such effective self-defense weapons also make them very effective tools of murder.

My point was IMHO that the false equivalency of guns with other potentially dangerous items not only doesn’t make sense to me but actively undermines legitimate arguments for access to guns generally. In the same way that we don’t treat bicycle and cars the same when it comes to regulation, I think an appreciation of the nature of firearms is a necessary part of determining what is appropriate regulation.

What do you propose as a remedy for the deaths and future assaults on schools, malls, churches by crazed shooters?
