Fighting Back

Empowerment By Speaking Out Against Liberal Drivel

Today, I challenged a liberal when he posted an article by a law professor saying that the 2nd Ammendment wasn’t a guaranttee of a complete and total right to bear arms. Well, I won’t waste your time by detailing the column, but the gist of it was that the writer felt that the Government has the authority to regulate your constitional rights because some very smart Supreme Court judges said so and plus, he is a law professor so we can  all bite him. Pardon the crude expression. Well, I based my rebuttal on some very cogent points from Glen Beck’s Arguing With Idiots. I got very little in the way of return fire.

I have to tell you folks it felt pretty damn good to jerk some liberal colors. And right now, I am, figuratively speaking, blowing smoke off the barrel. But  the point of this diary isn’t to congratulate myself.

It’s to say that is time to engage these people. I know we all have very dear liberal friends, but speaking for myself, I am tired of my friendships being one sided, meaning they get to spout off their liberal beliefs and not be challenged by myself or anyone else out of a fear of offending and  being shunned. It’s time to test the value of our individual friendships with libs. Yes, some people may cease being friends with you but hey, that’s okay because their disowning you over a political discussion meaans you were on shaky ground to begin with. Go out and find some conservative friends.

I don’t have any scientific or statistical proof of this, but it is a gut feeling. If we in the trenches stand up to liberals and challenge them, not fearing the return arrows and other verbal projectiles, we will be that much closer to winning elections again. And again, this is just a feeling I get, and maybe it is because I am still feeling the effects of the high of for once taking a stand  for conservatism. The  projection of strength and confidence goes along way.

Your gut feel that engaging people is the first step is spot on. We dont win elections without persuasion and the first step there is to ‘win the argument’.

You win the argument not so much by proving that the other guy is wrong, but by laying out the facts and a carpet of data and a narrative that makes them realize the validity of your view.

      You still there Freedoms’?

Good on ya plumely! And cheers for taking a stand- keep up the good work!

The problem is; as an institution, the GOP does not believe in winning the argument. Our consultants and other so-called politics and campaign experts are ruled by cliches such as; “… if you’re explaining, you’re losing …”, “… if you’re defending, you’re losing …”, “… never argue with someone who buys ink by the barrel …”

Even worse is that much of GOP’s DC-based campaign and political staffers are all desperate to be part of the DC cocktail set – which is very liberal. As plumely points out, and I think everyone in the real world has noticed, liberals feel very free to share their liberal viewpoints in any venue – for some reason, conservatives seem to think it unseemly to do the same, so we let things slide and try to change the subject to avoid ruffling feathers.

Ever wonder why the GOP responds so weakly to attacks, seems to deploy the weakest arguments in favor of policies and basically gives up time after time? The answer is simple; an effective and muscular GOP that responds with fire and brimstone, that makes powerful cases for its own policies, that vociferously defends itself and attacks the opposition means no cocktail invites.

      Thank you.

      someone who gets it.

This is exactly why we have to figure out how to make the GOP’s fear of us greater than their desire to go to liberal cocktail parties.

      • bobmark

Maybe the GOP should hire some party planners and give better parties. Not making light of it (well not too much), but if the perceived problem in DC is with being excluded/shunned by the popular clique, why the hell can’t they just form their own damn clique and exclude the libs?

        • avgjo

bobmark, I take your comment very seriously.

I’m with you 100%. I, for the life of me, cannot understand why they don’t have this mentality.

The only thing I can think of is based on my observation that successful trendsetters/cliquesetters are generally very confident people. They have to be, to have the conviction that fuels their ability to form something appealing, and which attracts new people to their ranks.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that most of our GOP ‘leaders’ are wimps. That’s because they apparently have no confidence, and buy into the MSM/lib lie that it is THEY (GOP) who are the outsiders.

A wise man in ancient days said that civil leaders are reflections of the people they govern. If I am right, perhaps it explains why rank-n-file conservatives seem to have trouble blazing trails in pop culture as well.

I dunno….those thoughts and $1.50 will (hopefully) buy you a cup of coffee.

          I really like your comment.

Among the many diaries I need to write, one is about how we can reverse this trend. I believe it starts with all of us outside of Washington. I think the Tea Party came pretty close to convincing people that it was cool and hip to be a conservative.

          • avgjo

I look forward to reading that, plumely. I mean it; I myself have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to do that – how to let the GOP that gets into the DC slime that we are watching, all the time, and that if they cross us, they lose their plush office.

I agree wholeheartedly that it starts outside of Washington.

As much as i agree with you re: Tea Party, it is sad to watch how leftist propaganda has discredited the Tea PArty. I think any strategy must have as an integral part a way of running the current media out of business.

          • plumely

I truly concur with that. Some will disagree with me but I think the Tea party needs a national leader that can articulate the message clearly and squash the leftist propaganda. Still think however it is the best idea our side has thought of in a long time.

Your diary touches on an issue I’ve been thinking about writing about. And that is the notion that only attorneys — especially Constitutional law attorneys and ultimately the Supreme Court — are smart enough, competent enough to “interpret” the Constitution.

What a crock! The left actually wants us to believe that we are incapable of interpreting the Constitution! I hear pundits all the time who have bought into the lie that the courts are the only ones with the expertise to do so, therefore, the rest of us dimwits must wait for the wisdom from on high to tell us if our rights are being violated or not.

This is another tactic designed to shut us up and make us dependent on big gov to order us around. If that is really true, then why do public servants from Sheriff to governor swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution? How are they supposed to do that if they don’t know what it says or means? Given that the courts are packed with more and more leftists who are more than happy to use the Constitution to deny us our rights, it is incumbent that all Americans know what it says and how to say no when anyone tries to deny us the rights guaranteed therein.

    End of rant.

    • plumely

Or we are incapable of understanding the Constitution. It really is pretty clear what the Founding Fathers meant especially in the Bill Of Rights. The liberals treat it like it’s a prose poem rich with metaphor and symbolic language. Next time they start talking about the Constitution’s symbolic meaning and interpretation, tell them to go read some Shakespeare but stay the hell away from the subject of government.

  • plumely

Hey thank you all. I am so fired up I say to those who think they can buy ink by the barrel, your wasting your money because I aim to smash those barrels and steal your ink. This is all figurative language of course. Liberals should appreciate my use of it because after that is what they think the Constitution is,”Figurative language.”

I like it. I like it indeed. Keep it up!
