Obama Administration – gun control by Executive Order?

“What are YOU prepared to do?”   These were the last words of the character John Malone to Elliott Ness in “The Untouchables,” when it appeared that Al Capone had outwitted, outsmarted the system and would get away with not only tax evasion but murder.  Those words appear to be applicable for what Americans are up against with the ongoing, knee-jerk reaction of the Progressives/Democrats, whom I refer to simply as Socialists, to various pieces of local, state, and federal legislation that would ban Americans from owning certain types of guns and ammunition.

While I am not a gun owner, yet, I am against the continuing end runs around the Congress and usurping of its powers given it by the Constitution, that have been the hallmark of this Administration since 2008.  The potential of using a Presidential Executive Order to effect some form of gun control on a national level was reported by The Weekly Standard.  

We already have several examples of the President and his Administration circumventing Congress, whether through recess appointments, the contraception mandate and granting of waivers for Obamacare, the non-enforcement of DOMA, or non-enforcement of immigration laws following the Supreme Court’s Arizona decision, among other examples.  With this potential executive fiat, are we living in a dictatorship or are we living as a free people under a Constitution?  Will there be any outcry from our elected officials not only about this “gun grab”, but whether circumventing the 2nd Amendment is illegal, much less an impeachable offense, because it knowingly and willfully violates the separation of powers?

“The president is going go act,” said Biden, who is conducting meetings all week on the issue of gun control. “There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken. We haven’t decided what that is yet, but we’re compiling it all.”   The Hill is now carrying the story as well.

As soon as my fingers finish this post, I am contacting my elected officials (yes I know, a lot of good that will do, given their recent performance) to demand that they ramp up their opposition, vocally and legislatively, to stop this power grab now.  We live in a country which is governed by a rule of law, given us through the Constitution.  If we, as a free people, allow this to gun-grab to take place by the government, then we’ve become a nation of sheeple.

The tragedy of Newtown, of Aurora, and others will pale in comparison to the tragedy that will be written in our national history if we give up our rights, guaranteed by the Second Amendment, without a whimper.

    There is no way we can ever allow Obama to try to do an EO on this. If he does and it is carried through that will mean we will soon lose the rest of our rights.

    God help our nation.

      We did loose the nation, we voted and we voted away our liberty, prosperity and security. And it doesn’t matter who you voted for, that isn’t how it works.

      There is little we can do if he tries it though, I think he may find people getting real tired of his golf games.

        I have no plans of giving up or giving in. I have to live in this nation for the rest of my life…which should be at least half a century, so I plan to hold onto the rights dear to me!

    I cannot see a circumstance where an EO could possible contravene an amendment to our Constitution…. and i never want to, either…

    Mr. Obama has neither the power nor the authority to deprive citizens of their basic rights. Nor can he rewrite the U.S. Constitution by executive fiat. Although he may try. I for one will not allow it. Nor will I obey such a illegitimate order.

    The moment he signs it Articles of Impeachment need to be introduced in the House and the Republicans better pass it.

    The president’s power to NOT do things by EO is much greater than his power to do them.

    On the subject of guns, he can control how the ATFE operates (for example, order them to make the NICS background check more through), and he can SEVERELY restrict the importation of FOREIGN guns.

    He is, however, unable to enact serious restrictions on domestically produced firearms via EO.

    There is no ‘getting around’ Congress on that one.

      Unfortunately, Congress has let him get around them on numerous issues where he’s overstepped his bounds and authority. That’s why I fear for this Exec Order, or its ilk. Obama’s got Holder, who’s remaining as AT, to find all means and methods to cover for him.

      Second, he has a Republican Congress in disarray, who need new faces in front of the national microphone who can forcefully, articulately present an offense. Boehner opens his mouth an alienates 50% of the voters, and Obama and his cabal know this.

    So far the Vice President hasn’t said anything specific about a “gun grab”. He purposely uses vague language and then sits back and lets everyone think he’s after more than he could ever possibly get. That way when unveils the policies he really wants, they’ll seem tame by comparison.

      Joe Bidden can’t control what comes out of his mouth let alone guns. Putting Biden in charge shows Obama wasn’t serious, he just wants to stir the pot and rile everybody on both sides up for the debt ceiling fight. We need to laugh this off, make him really mad.

      Of course Obama might have been serious but was distracted by hanging out with his choom gang buddies again,

    If he goes the EO route the GOP should defund ATF. All they really do is seize toy imports and stomp kittens anyway.

    How about “Abortion Control” by Executive Order? The Democrats need to remember that what goes around comes around. If they are so foolish as to allow Mr. Obama to attempt “gun control” through an Executive Order, then they should realize that the next Republican President may decide to go after abortion that way. After all, if you can subvert a real right secured by a constitutional amendment that way, why not a made-up right like abortion.

    Biden is a joke. It is time to start laughing at these people. Instead of reacting like they expect. Laugh in their faces. They are surrendering the war on drugs, they are fleeing the battlefields in Iraq, Afghanistan, they are clueless as to what transpired in the middle east. What are they going to do bomb us from a drone because we might have a gun?.

    I am not saying it isn’t a serious subject, I am saying that it is time to laugh at their grandiose ideas, They can’t control the border, they can’t control drugs, they can’t control crime, or gangs, they can’t make their cities safe, they can’t keep a known mentally unstable boy from carrying a rifle into a school.What did he do hid it in a pizza box? Good grief why don’t they promise to extract gold from the moon by laser beam. .

    Even the dumbest politician has to realize that if you make guns illegal someone from Chicago will start smuggling guns the way Capone smuggled booze. And the streets will be flooded with the unused AK’s from the Soviet Union arsenal storage. there are just under 20 million there not in use. It is easier to get crack then a nasal decongestant.

    We need a Reagan type (not Boehner) to laugh in Biden’s face and tell him “Joe, you can’t control what comes out of your mouth, how you gonna control guns?” Tell Joe to go home and “get the mentally ill under control, get the criminals under control, get the border under control, get the smuggling under control, get the gangs under control, then you can talk about guns,”

    Democrats can’t control anything, especially what comes out of Biden’s mouth. So they put him in charge of getting the guns? Go figure. Wonder what O was smoking when he came up with that plan. Or is Obama just another Chicago politician doing a favor for the heirs of the Capone legacy by creating a whole new black market operation..

      Exactly what I’ve been saying WmCraig- laugh in their faces and ridicule them. They’d hate that more than anything! This is priceless, ” “Joe, you can’t control what comes out of your mouth, how you gonna control guns?”
      Oh, and BO is working under the table for Capone types; he’s entrapping Walmart and Dick’s sporting goods to hike their bottom line by being co-conspirators against private gun sales. It’s the old quid pro quo, support this gun ban and I’ll help you profit (ala insurance companies and O’care).

    By all means, let them do this by way of Executive Order. Reasonably they will have to declare Martial Law as they would abrogate the Constitutional rights of citizens. This of course spells out exactly why there is a Bill of Rights in the first place. Let’s see the MSM have a field day with that one.

    Obama knows he can’t get all the guns , so he made an EO to give himself lifetime armed secret service protection .

    He thinks his family needs more high capacity guns for their protection, and ours should have none at all.
