Senator Ted Cruz … if only we had 99 more just like him

this country might not be in the mess that it's in

I’m not from Texas, I don’t live in Texas, and perhaps there may be some background/public service information that I’m not aware of that could alter my opinion.  However, listening to Sen. Cruz’s questioning of Chuck Hagel today before the Senate Armed Services Committee, coupled with his recent letter to Rahmbo, in my opinion sets him up for a future White House run.  Bravo, sir!  Well done!  Bring it on!  Now if we could only clone your spine and backbone for the other gang of 99, our country might have a chance of surviving the Obama Administration.

Hagel was unnerved and clearly did not acquit himself well, especially during the Cruz round of questioning.  If ever there was an individual  who by his own words, has proved himself uniquely unqualified for the position of U.S. Secretary of Defense, it is Mr. Hagel.  His contempt for Israel, a long-time ally of the United States, an ally that took 39 SCUD missiles during the Kuwait war without retaliating at our request, was accused of “sickening slaughter” and war crimes against Hezbollah.  Senator Cruz not only raised Hagel’s past conduct towards Israel, but raised the spectre of future conduct as well.

While the President has indicated that he is digging in for a fight on Hagel, it depends upon whether Hagel himself has the stomach for it, or whether the damage being done over the course of these hearings is enough to send him the way of Zoe Baird, Lani Guenier, Linda Chavez, Bernard Kerik, Anthony Lake, John Bolton, or whether it’s a slam-dunk bi-partisan rejection like John Tower.   Now that would send a message our current emperor would not be able to miss.

You go, Cruz. Republicans — and Americans in general — are desperately craving a leader such as Cruz. So glad to see him in the Senate and I look forward to the powerful impact he will have there. From all I’ve seen and heard, I think he is a man that we will be able to put our complete trust in and we will not be disappointed or ashamed or betrayed. Thank God for him.

Wow, I can’t wait to hear his second round of questions! I’m gonna put Cruz in the “no” column for Hagel. BTW, he was one of 19 R’s that voted to stop the F-16s to Egypt.
    .
I only caught Hagel’s initial opening statement and I have to say, he really doesn’t appear to be very sharp or worthy of the position.

Imagine Cruz as majority leader..instead of having to watch McConnell drone on endlessly on the Senate floor..

    • fightnright

there’s some vital (right-wing) force missing when you hear McConnell speak, isn’t there? Sort of like the difference between listening to a machine voice on a support site instead of communicating with a live, responsive human being. At least that’s how blocked Mr ‘right and I have felt recently in terms of providing and exchanging feedback with our employees on Capitol Hill.

Now this diary and video did more to raise my hopes for the future of the Republican party and my support of it as a Conservative than almost anything I’ve read or seen since the dark days at the start of November 2012. What a blessing! Like opening a window and seeing the sunlight finally shining through….

  • vangoghssister

That was amazing. Hagel sounded like an utterly unprepared doctoral candidate being grilled on a plagiarized thesis.

    • westcoastpatriette

LOL, vangoghssister. Hagel also looked like he was sucking on rotten lemons.

Just introducing his family was a weird struggle for him…great analogy!

Ted Cruz just got to the Senate and is determined to be the loudest voice of the mean, nasty, hard right; he might learn at some point in the near future that making noise is a lot different than governing, and that while everyone is given a chance to speak in the Senate, very few are actually listened to.

    • commonsenseobserver

Sounds to me more like you’re referring to people like Barack Obama, Chuck Hagel, Chuck Schumer and their ilk.

Certainly, making noise is very different from governing. On the other hand, when you don’t have anyone on the other side interested in governing, making noise is very constructive indeed.

The mean, nasty, hard left didn’t build the United States, but it certainly can build the Untied States.

You should know about making noise. You’ve posted 3 comments here, one bashing Cruz and one calling for moderation in lieu of “revving up the base” as you put it. I’m putting the o/u at 2 more comments like these before you no longer have the chance to speak here. Better get busy.

      Three strikes and you’re out.

    Amen.

I am a Texan and I am thrilled with Senator Cruz’s performance so far. I saw a clip of him grilling some sherriff over gun regulations and it was awesome and I thought “Dewhurst could not have done this well by any stretch of the imagination”. Yeah, Go Cruz!
