In an exceptionally idiotic move, the school board in Kent, Washington decided high school students won’t be going on long-awaited trips in the coming weeks because of concerns over stricter border enforcement in the United States.

An education exchange to Osaka, Japan and a yearly trip to Victoria, BC by the high school band have both been canceled. And why? Because of President Trump, of course.

Chris Loftis, the district’s executive director of communications, said the “sometimes confusing messaging” from President Donald Trump’s administration regarding border enforcement raised questions about whether all of the students slated to go on those trips would be allowed to return to the U.S., especially if they lacked adequate documentation of legal U.S. residency.

Okay. Except, newsflash, if you don’t have proper documentation, you’re not getting into Canada either.

Furthermore, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol always give the same answer that they can’t tell you if you can legally enter (or re-enter) into the country until you show up at a port of entry and attempt it. That has always been the only answer they can give you. The same goes for entering into Canada.

“Immigration laws have not changed,” the statement [from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol] said. “In accordance with the Immigration and Nationality Act, all travelers seeking to enter the United States must prove to the inspecting officer that they are legally entitled to enter the United States.”

The district also stated that if some students couldn’t go it would be exposing them as undocumented and therefore, it’s discriminatory to go on a trip where not all the kids can go.

Okay. Except that as people who opposed the cancellation have pointed out, there’s always a certain number of students who don’t or can’t go on school trips.

The district admits that in the 18 years the band has been going on the trip to Canada they’ve never had an incident of any student not being allowed back into the United States. No other school district in the Seattle area has felt the need to cancel their trips.

The Kent school board really ought to be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves for being so stupid as to believe the unrealized distortions from the hair-on-fire Left in regards to immigration enforcement over the actual fact that immigration law has not changed.
