Former NBA phenom Shaquille O’Neal has announced plans to run for sheriff in the next election cycle.
A resident of both Florida and Georgia, O’Neal has yet to announce where he plans to run for office.
Shaq has been a deputy sheriff in Clayton County, Georgia since last year but is a resident of Henry County, where the incumbent sheriff is up for re-election in 2020.
On his calling to work in law enforcement and dream of becoming sheriff, O’Neal said, “This is not about politics. This is about bringing people closer together. You know, when I was coming up, people loved and respected the police, the deputies. And, I want to be the one to bring that back, especially in the community I serve.”
At seven-foot-one, Shaq would surely make an intimidating foe for any lawbreaker.
